Harry Potter and The Chamber Of Secrets (2002) Movie Reaction *first time watching*

Some notes about this part: 1) Harry is a half-blood, for his father was a pure-blood and his mother was a muggle-born witch (there is a certain number of generations that has to pass for a descendant to be considered pure-blooded). 2) House-elves have their own seriously powerful magic (for instance, they can apparate (teleport) where humans can't), but it strongly depends on the master: for example, if the master orders a house-elf not to tell anyone about something, the latter won't physically be able to do so. This is why Dobby's warnings were so unclear. 3) There is a curious parallel between the first and the second movie: Moaning Myrtle died in a bathroom while crying because of being humiliated. Hermione was in the exact same situation in the first movie, and if the troll had killed her, she could've become a similar ghost. 4) In the books, it is explained that Filch (the caretaker) is a Squib: a person born in a family of wizards, but with no powers of his own (however, Squibs seem to be able to establish connections with animals and can see things magically hidden from muggles). This is why he is so bitter towards the students: "why do those pipsqueaks have magic and I don't?!" I strongly recommend reading the books, because, although the movies are great, they still just scratch the surface

1:08 Harry's owl, Hedwig is female. NOT spoilers, UNLESS you intend/want to read the books: 1:32 It was in the first book that Harry got his own bedroom, just before they left to the light house. His uncle and aunt felt troubled that the letters had been so detailed on where Harry lived, aka the cupboard under the stairs. They got him to move in Dudley's second bedroom. (Yes, he had two, one for living in and another for all his stuff...) Dudley cried and complained about it quite a bit in the book. 😂 1:59 Dobby says that he has to punish himself. He literally has to. It's not by his choice but by the abusive treatment of the family of Malfoy that he served. He became conditioned to do so to himself, if he ever did something that he wasn't supposed to do, at least at the point of view of the Malfoy family.

Harry is a half-blood. The term "half-blood" applies to both wizards with one magical parent, or a parent that is muggle-born, and Harry fits in the latter category.

My personal theory is that the reason why spiders fear the basilisk above all other creatures is because it's probably way more difficult for them to not look at the basilisk directly, since they have 8 eyes.

The original Dumbledore actor Richard Harris passed away shortly before this one was released, hence Michael Gambon taking over for the next one. I'm not gonna lie....when I first saw the basilisk in this movie, I had the same reaction Ron had with Aragog. (side note: I am NOT fearful of snakes or spiders). Also, every time I hear Hermione say "She's a little sensitive" to describe Moaning Myrtle, I always have the same first thought: A LITTLE sensitive?" Side note: I always have the thought of "Harry's lucky Fawkes clawed out the Basilisk's eyes, otherwise that rock trick in the tunnel wouldn't have worked at all", combined with "Don't you dare sneeze, Harry"

You picked up on a lot of details way before they were properly revealed, so congrats. If you can keep that up for the next film, I'll be incredibly impressed! You've probably watched it already, though no spoilers just in case, but: the 3rd film is when the tone really begins to shift and the story deepens. It's one of the most common favorites in the franchise. Something I like to point out to reactors is that Rupert Grint (Ron) got kind of screwed in this franchise, because he signed on to play Book Ron, and ended up having to play Movie Ron. They're VERY different characters. The screenwriters took Book Ron's best lines and gave them to Movie Hermione, which is why she's totally OP. In the books, Ron is much more clever. He has street smarts and Hermione has book smarts, and together they help Harry through his challenges. But by taking away his street smarts, movie Ron gets downgraded to a goofy, well-meaning but ultimately kind of dense kid. Not dumb, mind you, but definitely not clever. And taking away this positive attribute highlights his more negative ones, which comes into play later in the series. Rupert does an excellent job as Ron, but I still feel the screenwriters did him dirty.

P.S.: Harry gets fed up saving the day all the time and goes on a killing spree throughout Hogwarts. Then he becomes the new Dark Lord which makes Voldemort rethink his ways after which he turns good and leads the fight agains Lord Hardeport

Dobby really was trying to help. He just has an odd way of "helping". 😂 Yes Hagrid was framed for killing Myrtle (supposedly by Aragog) at the age of 13. They snapped his wand in half when he was expelled but he keeps the pieces in his umbrella. That's why he said he's not supposed to do magic in the first movie. Hagrid's father had died so he was an orphan and would have had no place to go so Dumbledore arranged for him to live with the keeper of grounds and keys at the time and learn his job. As you saw it had to be someone in the family he served who had to free Dobby by giving him clothes. That ending with Hagrid hits harder since we lost Robbie Coltrane a few years ago. It's not Hogwarts without Hagrid. Since then we've also lost Michael Gambon (Dumbledore #2) last year and exactly a year later we've lost Maggie Smith (McGonagall).
