The books are worth reading. I saw the first 2 movies then started buying and reading the books. As always it tells you so much more than the movies. Fills in the gaps. And the books matured as the characters did.

Mrs Movies seems to have great movie instincts. She figured out Dobby was responsible for the mishaps happening to Harry (the wall remaining solid at platform 9 3/4 and the rogue bludger) before Dobby admitted to them. She also pegged Professor Lockhart as a fraud early on after he was introduced. I've seen her make similar predictions during other movie reactions. She's so casual about it too yet she's usually either very close or right on target lol.

To be fair, it doesn't take a genius to figure out Lockhart was a fraud. At least JKR confirmed that Dumbledore knew he was a fraud, but I wish the movie/books portrayed it.

More Fun Facts: the quill Harry is using to autograph Lockhart's pictures is enchanted with a spell that uses Lockhart's OWN writing to create his autograph even though Harry is the one writing. Such quills are often smuggled into exams by students who attempt to cheat on tests. Since they cane also be enchanted WITH the answers to a test, all the student has to do is USE the quill and IT automatically writes the correct answers. Although teachers that are more observant can enchant test papers to repel the auto answer quills.

Something to note - Harry has a hard time trusting adults, look at who raised him and how he was treated. It's expanded on more in the books, but his childhood was miserable, and a lot of that came from the adults in his life. When you think about it that way, it's easier to understand why he didn't tell Dumbledore, McGonagall, or another trusted adult about hearing the voice, and why he tends to try to do things his own way / alone / with friends, rather than going to adults throughout the series when there are issues, even if he does trust them.

I try to explain this to people and similar thing when people complain about the harry potter series is that Harry doesnt ask questions. Ive heard this from people who have read the books and whove watched the movies. However in book 1 before finding out hes magical he explains that he never asks questions because of how he was told with his early life to never ask questions and likely beat him and at best locked him under his cupboard without food. He immediately shows how his upbringing stops his curiosity of the magical world when introduced to hagrid when hes reading the newspaper. Of course this is also a way for jk to establish more mystery but i feel like people underestimate how much he is scared by his youth. His most important years of his life to establish good habits and shape how he'd turn out as a young adult were tainted by the dursleys its almost magical he turned out at well as he did with as little wrong with him as there could of been. He easily could of gone the evil route. It bothers me greatly every time i re read the series that dumbeldore never intervenes except it book 5 and 6. And in 5 its more of just a "yeah no" its not the undressing that the dursley get in 6. Dumbeldore could of and should of honestly been checking on harry or intervene every year. He was in contact with Fig to and you know she must of had some idea of how bad harrys life was juat off his clothing and how disheveled he would look.

That's dope af. Never looked at it that way, makes perfect sense. I was always frustrated that he didn't just go to Dumbledore or Hagrid for most questions he had. He only went to Sirius and he was a "kid like" and impulsive adult. Plus he died right after coming back into Harry's life, which Harry resented as if Sirius did it on purpose. Another betrayal and abandonment. Damn that's deep.

It isn't touched on in the movies but in the books but basically, Harry has a spell on him that hides him from Voldemort when he lives under the roof of a blood relative. This is why he has to live with the Dursleys. Petunia is his only living blood relative. The assumption is that he is safe while attending Hogwarts because of the teachers.

A caged owl, a caged Harry and caged Cornish pixies. All fly amuck when set free at last. Pretty much the theme of this story. 😉 BTW, Harry got the Dursley house room upgrade because when Harry got his Hogwarts letter last year they saw it was addressed as Harry Potter the cupboard under the stairs. The Dursleys saw that someone knows about the abuse and that they are obviously being watched somehow. So Harry only got the room due to the Dursleys' fears of what would happen if they continued to lock Harry under the stairs. I can only imagine Professor McGonagall addressing that envelope with a justified spiteful smirk. LOL!😉😄 🏰🧙‍♀️📝✉️🤨😏🦉

I think it has a lot to do with how the first two were the most "accurate" to the books description of everything, they pretty much took the visuals described almost word for word I feel, which I feel worked pretty well. I feel that after these two (and Richard Harris passing away) the mood of the films changed a lot and it was a bit all over the place until the 5th one were it settled in style. Also I like Michael Gambon as Dumbledore but I do feel he played it a bit too aggressive at times making Dumbledore much darker and moody than he was in the books...

I like the first two the best too (and the 3rd is as well) -- maybe because it is still very magical and we are still learning the world and the stories are less dark. Also, the actors are still kids (whereas from the 4th movie on, they are well over the age they are supposed to be in the books).

Little error in the film, when Lucius says “see you at work” to Arthur. Lucius doesn’t work, the Malfoy family is so rich they don’t need a job. Lucius doesn’t work at the ministry of magic, although he did appoint himself as governor on the Hogwarts school board after Draco started attending, to look over his son.
@chris...9497
@chris...9497 7 ай бұрын
Not sure if this was in the books, but in the film it's quite obvious that Lucius Malfoy is an officious busybody constantly lobbying the Ministry of Magic for his personal political/policy beliefs. Lucius has no job at the Ministry, but he does have influence. Being a legacy pureblood scion, independently wealthy, and having high Wizarding World social and political ties gives him additional power in that culture. Conversely, Arthur Weasley is head of a minor position at the Ministry, probably with Arthur being the only staff member. The department is so discounted that Arthur is not well-paid, adding to the poverty of his very large family (6 boys and a girl). It's possible the Ministry position was a 'gift' for service against Voldemort during the previous Wizard World War, as muggles are nearly an obsession with Arthur; he is fascinated by them.

3:20 OMG! Your dirty jokes are killing me!🤣🤣 4:49 Hedwig is a female!😍 J. K. Rowling found the name St Hedwig in a book of medieval saints. It's derived from Hedvig - a Scandinavian name meaning female warrior or battle. There are two female saints named Hedwig: Saint Hedwig of Andechs (1174-1243), Duchess of Silesia, who is the patron saint of orphans. So a very fitting name since she's the bet of Harry who lost his parents.💔 19:52 LOL There's actually a quote at the end of this book after Harry and Ron received the awards for services to the school Dumbledore gave them that says: "Your aunt and uncle will be proud, though, won't they?" said Hermione. "Proud?" said Harry. "Are you mad? All those times I could've died, and I didn't manage it? They'll be furious..." 😅😂😂

JK Rowling was very strategic when it came to naming her characters; most names contain clues to the character or the character's characteristics. A few examples: Professor Quirinius Quirrell (the teacher possessed by Voldemort, providing a physical form to the disembodied villain and manifesting in a second face on th eback of Quirrell's head): 'Quirinius' is a name for a localized aspect of the Roman god Janus, the two-faced god from where we get the month 'January'. Janus faced simultaneously into the past and the future, being aware of both and therefore aware of time and events itself. Argus Fitch (Hogwarts's janitor, porter, and seemingly sleepless 'hall monitor', who roamed the halls looking for students out of bed or otherwise breaking rules): 'Argus' is the name of a trusted servant of Hera, queen of the Greek gods and understandably jealous wife to philandering Zeus. Hera gave Argus a hundred eyes, the better to spy on her husband, half of which were always awake to observe should bad behavior occur. Sirius Black (the animagus friend of Harry's parents; Sirius could take the form of a black dog): 'Sirius' is the name of a star in the constellation Canis Major, aka Great/Big Dog; in fact, Sirius is more popularly referred to as 'the Dog Star'. It's one of the brightest stars in the northern hemisphere, observed by the ancient Egyptians in late August at the horizon near dusk, so just as things 'got darker'. This is where we get the term 'dog days of summer'. And if you dig into the derivation of the word 'black', it refers to coals, noting that the contrast of bright embers and sparks against the dark coals is what the word is based upon. So 'black' is mistaken for the dark coals when it's a linguistic sleight of hand of actually describing the hidden heat and brightness of the fire within those coals. Those qualities of Sirius Black and coals, of dogs as pack animals who follow a leader with loyalty, will become more apparent as the story goes on. Bellatrix Black Lestrange (the unbalanced cousin of Sirius Black, sister to Narcissa Black Malfoy and Andromeda Black Tonks): The Black Family, a pureblood wizard family (except for Andromeda marrying a muggle), had a couple generations named after astronomical features (see 'Draco'/dragon). 'Bellatrix' is a star in the Orion constellation; it translates to 'female warrior'. The sisters Lily and Petunia: for this, Rowling applied Victorian Flower Language, which was historically an understood code that communicated meaning in flowers. 'Lily' meant 'purity/sweetness', qualities with which Lily Potter was often associated. 'Petunia' meant 'anger/resentment', which was also a very notably characteristic of Petunia Dursley. These are just a few examples. An entire treatise could be written on the selection of names for characters in the Harry Potter series/franchise.

House elves aren’t really explored too much in the Harry Potter series, but for some reason, they are bound to their masters and consider it a great dishonor to not have a master or mistress to serve. Hermione’s SPEW idea which was eliminated entirely from the 4th movie showed the house elves reacting negatively to Hermione’s idea that you don’t have to do everything you’re told.

I love this movie, but it still cringes me not seeing Mr. Weasley and Mr. Malfoy kicking each other's butts at the bookstore, as was in the book. I hope the upcoming series includes that, as well as a lot of other stuff and characters.

Harry landed in Borgin and Burkes, an antique shop located in Knockturn Alley (adjacent to Diagon Alley). Although harmless antiques were indeed portion of their merchandise, the rest (a lot) of it was dodgy and dark magic stuff. The shrivelled hand was called Hand of glory - it was a candleholder, and the light of that particular candle was visible only to the person holding it. To repair broken wands, it is close to impossible; such rare and powerful magic is required, that even Mr Ollivander (the legendary wandmaker; his family's business crafted wands for more than 2000 years) does not know about it. And on top of it, Ron was given that wand by his older brother Charlie. Most of the wizarding world does not know about the bond between a wizard and a wand - the wand chooses the wizard. So Charlie should not have passed that wand to anyone. Especially because of the combination of its materials - ash wood and unicorn hair - such wands desperately cling to their original owners and refuse to work with any other wizards. Hence Ron's trouble with doing magic in his first two years. The car: probably Mr Weasley's enchantments gave the car sort of “personality”. He could never properly test it, as it was illegal to enchant muggle objects. It is therefore not known if the car needed any kind of magic/charm fuel or not. When rescuing Harry, the whole journey was just over 400 km. When flying to Hogwarts, it was over 800 km. But the car's magic was most likely temporarily switched off by Hogwart's protective charms layer; similar to EMP. The ghosts in HP universe were “imprints” of deceased people, who were afraid of afterlife, so they chose this type of (non)existance “in between”. They were bound only to the places and locations they visited during their lives.

When ron's father asked about the Rubber Ducky it was the actor just making lines up and he had tried to do so with many other objects but the Rubber ducky was the one that the editers chose. the part where ron is spitting up the slugs was real and the actor actually had a good time doing so. I love the third movie and book the best but this one was pretty good as well. I was at an exibit this summer in New york and got to see all the actual costumes and items used in the movie including the Philosipher's stone and the items of the Chamber of secrets haha it was cool to learn about how they came up with the costume ideas and how they also listened to the actors suggestions about it as well. It was a cool exibit because you get to choose your house and wand and it was interactive at times as well so every rask done right gains points for your house I choose Hufflepuff and my mom chose Gryphindore and naturally her house won the House cup as if cause everyone seems to choose it but any way it was fun. Nice reaction guys and Dobby isn't that bad he just was trying to protect Harry from the dangers of the Chamber of Secrets.

I saw a wonderful exhibit in NYC too, but perhaps a different one. In 2018, I went to see the play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” and an exhibit at the New York Historical Society on the history of magic. It was an adaptation of a British Library exhibit and the displays were in rooms according to Hogwarts subjects like Herbology and Potions. They published a book Harry Potter: A History of Magic, and also made it available in Pottermore/Wizarding World online. Fascinating.

I saw that play too it was amazing how they did all the magic and made it look so real but the exibit wasn't in the museum it was slightly off brodway at the Harold towers there but it might have been the same one cause it's a moving exibit so it seems.@@genny5309

Dumbledore was recast after this film due to Richard Harris' death. Coincidentally, Sir Michael Gambon who portrayed Dumbledore in films 3-8 recently died. Hugh Grant was originally cast as Lockhart but was forced to withdraw at the last minute because of scheduling conflicts. Jason Isaacs also originally auditioned for Lockhart. It's almost universally agreed upon that the films did Ron dirty. One of the most notable ways was how most of his best lines were given to Hermione. One notable example of this is when Hermione is the one to explain what "Mudblood" means instead of Ron. In the book, Ron is also the one who points out how ridiculous the whole idea of wizarding blood supremacy is (instead of Hagrid). In the book it's revealed that Filch is actually a Squib, which is a non-magical person who is born with at least one magical parent (kind of the opposite of a Muggleborn). A sweet behind the scenes story is that during production, Emma Watson frequently brought her pet hamster Millie on set but, unfortunately, Millie passed away shortly after filming began. The set department created a specially-made hamster coffin for her.

The thing about the Harry Potter books is that the author, JK Rowling originally wrote the series for adults. It was the book publishers that decided to advertise it as children's books. If you read between the lines of the story you will see it is a satire. First, one has to understand that you the reader are looking at the story through Harry Potter's point of view as he grows up throughout the years at Hogwarts. In the first book and movie Harry is 11 years old so you see his world from his 11 year old mindset and maturity. But as he grows up and begins to understand things more and more the story gets darker and less innocent as he matures with age. The reason I call the books a satire is that many of the stories deals with racism of a different kind and political corruption. Dobby might be a house elf but nevertheless he is a slave just the same. There might not be any racism in the wizarding world against people of color but there is racism against wizards who do not come from pure magical families. Harry doesn't see the horrible similarities between the wizarding world and the muggle world at this point because he is only 12 years old during The Chamber of Secrets. To a certain extent he is still an innocent little boy and is not mature enough to comprehend it all to the fullest extent. 🏰🧙‍♂️🧙🏻‍♀️🧒🪄⚡️📚📽🎞🖤

@@Powerranger-le4up I agree with you. It's obviously mental conditioning over generation after generation over the hundreds of years. Even animals who are raised in captivity can't just be set free without training them how to hunt and take care of themselves in the wild. My brother once served in the Marines. At first when he came back after he was done serving he wasn't the outgoing talkative bold person I grew up with. It took a long time for him to finally become to person he once were and break the mental conditioning he was trained to have in the arm forces, like speaking only when spoken to for example.

31:55 actually, hitting Harry with a "finite incantatem" wouldn't do anything, because he was not enchanted, so there wouldn't be no incantatem to finite. This movie unfortunately got the magic wrong. The bludger shouldn't have exploded, it should just fell off on the ground when it was disenchanted by Hermione.
@chris...9497
@chris...9497 7 ай бұрын
If this is specifically defined in the Potter books (which, admittedly, I have not yet read) then my apologies for the opinion I now present. 'Incantatum', variously defined elsewhere as 'bewitchment' or 'sing/recite' (as in activate a spell, spellcasting) does not specifically relate to 'enchanting' something or someone; it refers more to an incantation, to spellcasting. 'Finite incantatum' just means end/quit the spell. That said, I agree that the bludger should have just cease its magical action and given in to regular physics, falling to the ground in keeping with whatever inertia has been naturally activated. The bludger exploding would have to be caused by some hidden component to the spell not clear to us viewers, like the interaction between two different types of magic or a safeguard woven into the spell causing the bludger to target Harry or even some miscalculations due to inexperience or ineptience.

Ghosts work on the premise that they have unfinished business to take care of. Most don't choose to become ghosts. Sir Nicks unfinished business is trying to become part of the headless hunt. This is from the wizarding world website.... Ghosts are the imprints of witches and wizards who have died and left a part of themselves behind. Only those who are magical can return as ghosts (meaning Muggles can’t become one). However, even though all witches and wizards have the ability to come back as a ghost, those who are smart, don’t. It is said that those who do return have unfinished business of some sort. There are lots of reasons for this such as regret, fear or guilt. Some ghosts are those with a very strong attachment to the material world who refuse to move on. Ghosts are transparent, three-dimensional and can pass through solid objects (including people) without causing any damage. Though they do cause disturbances in fire, water and air. If you are in the presence of a ghost the temperature will drop, and if there is more than one ghost around, the temperature drops even further. If you are unlucky enough to have one pass through you, it would feel like someone had emptied a bucket of freezing water over you! They also have the ability to turn flames blue. While it may seem tempting to remain on earth forever, ghosts are just shadows of their former living selves. They can’t experience much of the world. They can no longer touch anything, eat anything and they won’t be able to learn anything new. A ghost’s level of knowledge and talent remains the same as when they died. Not being able to move on means that ghosts are often not the best company. They will not let go of any grudges or resentments - just ask Nearly Headless Nick about the fact he’s only nearly headless! As well as not being able to come back as a ghost, Muggles can’t seem to see them. Witches and wizards are much more sensitive to paranormal activity which is why they can see and interact with ghosts. However, that is not to say Muggles are completely oblivious, they might feel that a haunted place is cold or feel creeped out by being there.
