Snape May have been brave but that was his only redeemable quality. His love for Lily was obsessive, creepy and toxic. He was emotionally abusive and a bully to kids which were his students. When Neville was faced with a Boggart, which takes the form of your deepest, darkest fear, it took the form of Snape, his teacher. He was a dick to everyone but Slytherins. Hermione's teeth were enlarged and he told her he couldn't tell a difference. He tried to out Lupid as a werewolf. In the first year he made fun of Harry’s intellect and accused him of being fame-hungry, even though Harry was completely new to the wizarding world. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Snape forces Neville to use his Shrinking Solution on his toad, Trevor, expecting Neville to mess the mixture up and poison his pet. While he begs Voldemort to spare Lily, he is totally fine with James and Harry dying. Being fine with a baby being murdered because you’re upset someone you loved didn’t marry you is inexcusable. Calls Lily a mudblood and hangs out with the worst kind of people in his school years, he literally spent years not getting over Lily and accepting that she had married someone else.

@@JustIzzan Snape genuinely deeply loved Lily which is why his patronus was a doe (same as Lily's). His only happy memories were in regards to Lily. They did become best friends although he fell in love with her & that part was unrequited. The only happiness he ever had was regarding Lily, his dad was a abusive drunk & his mum dour faced & cold. Snape loved Lily since he was 9 years old & I don't believe it was just obsessive. Why do you think Dumbledore was so shocked & had tears in his eyes at seeing Snapes Patronis if it was just obsessive as Dumbledore knew Snape turned against the death eaters years back because of Lily & became a double agent? It's because Dumbledore saw that Snapes love was real & genuine for her & had never diminished. (Snape: "Always!") Also regarding just being obsessive he didn't try & kill James to keep them apart, he didn't interfere when they got together. He kept out of their way. He hated James & Sirius because they bullied him & Harry looked just like James (apart from having Lily's eyes) so Harry reminded Snape of James his bully. When he called Lily a mudblood that one time he had been badly publically humiliated by James & felt further humiliated at the perception that he couldn't fight his own battles when she defended him. Snape tried to apologise to her for it but she broke off their friendship as he had gotten in with a bad crowd who were pureblood supremacists & that he was getting deeper into dark magic. It is awful that initially Snape would have been willing to sacrifice the child in exchange for the mother. The fact was he was desperate & Snape priority was to save Lily above all else even a child, but out of love for the mother he did vow & paid with his own life ultimately in the end to protect her child for the love he had for her & in Lily's honour & so that her sacrifice wasn't in vain. He was deeply flawed & a tragic figure. I also think it possible if he hadn't of been so bullied & shown love at home & genuine kindness when growing up from others (not just Lily alone) things could have been different.
@carlospacocordova115 Жыл бұрын
@@JustIzzan Some of that sounds like it may be from the book. But even if all that is true, he still died doing the right thing. That has nothing to do with bravery. It’s much deeper than that. So much so that Harry named his child after him.

In the 5th movie there was a scene of Snape's memories where James Potter and Sirius Black tormented him and exposed his underwear in public. In the book, the chapter is called "Snape's Worst Memory." What the movie didn't show was that Lily had intervened and derided James and Sirius for their actions. Snape humiliated, insulted Lily by saying that he didn't need a filthy mud blood to defend him. On face value, you would think that it Snape's worst memory because of James and Sirius' bullying. However, after reading Snape's revelation in the 7th book "The Prince's Tale," the true reason was that the event had marked the end of his friendship with Lily Evans. Later, Snape waited for her by the Gryffindor common room entrance. He was remorseful and apologised profusely for his remarks, but Lily refused to forgive him. She didn't like his attitude (attraction to the dark arts and anti muggle sediments) and his friends who were aspiring death eaters. They were close friends since they were children. Snape introduced Lily to the wizarding world. I remember in the first and fifth books where Petunia mentioned how she had overheard "that boy" telling Lily about dementors and other things in the wizarding world. Initially, I had assumed that she was referring to James. It was actually Snape. He comforted and defended her from her sister Petunia's vitriol. Lily in turn defended him from Gryffindor students who targeted him, particularly James and Sirius. However, their friendship became strained by Snape's interest in the dark arts. Snape loved Lily. He was devastated when she died and never recovered. In fact, his love for Lily was the reason why his Patronus was a doe.

Harry was able to come back because when Voldemort got his body back he used Harry’s blood, which had Lily’s protection in it. Because of this, Lily’s protection lived in Voldemort too. Yes, but not quite right. By using Harry's blood, Voldemort did allow him to come back to life. But that has nothing to do with the protection given to him by his mother's willful sacrifice. This comes into play when Harry also sacrifices himself for his friends willingly without a fight. In this way, he provided them with the same protection. That's why after his sacrifice no one died in the further course of the fight and Voldemort's magic began to weaken. Voldemort made the same mistake twice by ignoring the power of love and sacrifice. He himself was not capable of love because he was born not of love, but of a bond created by the use of a love potion. The Resurrection Stone does not raise the dead completely, we saw its effect in the forest, that's why one of the three brothers killed himself, because he realized that he could never really get his beloved back.

The detail of Neville killing the last horcrux is incredible. Remember the prophecy about a boy born at the end of July? Well Neville’s and Harry’s parents were both in the Order of the Pheonix and were in major battles… and both of them were born at the end of July. So really Voldemort brought this whole thing on himself by assuming that it would be the Potter boy. Imagine how different the story would have been if it was Neville instead of Harry. Please react to the 20 year reunion, it’s so worth it! Snape is such a great character, I loved his whole arc throughout the series. Some things from the books that you might find interesting: In the prophecy about the chosen one, it referenced a boy born at the end of July. In the books, 2 boys were contenders: Harry and Neville. Voldemort assumed the prophecy was about Harry bc he was a halfblood like himself. Kinda points to Neville having a huge capacity to be a hero as well, which he is! The elder wand is thought to promote violence - you don’t necessarily have to kill the last owner, you just have to “win the wand” but most people try to kill the last owner to gain its allegiance. Harry made the right choice destroying it so no one else came after him! But also, in the book he fixes his old phoenix wand before breaking it.

The movies do make Snape a bit more sympathetic because they don't show him bullying Neville constantly like in the books. Also, the flashback in Order of the Phoenix where James and Sirius bully Snape is cut down. In the book, Lily comes to his defense and chews James out, but Snape shouts "I don't need help from *filthy mudbloods* like her!" which kills their friendship for good. Snape's written as a creepy kid obsessed with Dark magic, who doesn't have many friends, whose parents fight constantly (his Muggle dad hates magic). Jumping forward to the pensieve scene in Deathly Hallows, the reason we see Trelawney is that Snape (as a Death Eater) was spying on Dumbledore during Trelawney's job interview at the Hogs Head. In the book, Dumbledore wasn't that impressed with her interview, but then she fell into a trance and gave the prophecy about Voldemort and The Chosen One. Snape overheard the first part of the prophecy but was thrown out before he heard the rest. Incidentally, this is why Dumbledore immediately hires her and prevents Umbridge from banishing Trelawney from Hogwarts in Order of The Phoenix. Dumbledore knows that Trelawney has no memory of the prophecy and would be in *grave danger* from Death Eaters trying to torture it out of her. But after hearing part of the prophecy, Snape had told Voldemort that a boy born at the end of July to parents who narrowly escaped him three times would grow up to defeat him. But Snape didn't hear the parts about Voldemort marking the boy as his equal, him having powers Voldemort doesn't, or that neither can live while the other survives. The prophecy could have referred to Neville (born July 30) or Harry (born July 31), and Voldemort chose the half-blood (like himself), deciding to hunt down the Potters. That's when Snape came to Dumbledore and begged him to protect Lily. The fact that Neville could have been chosen is never stated in the movies. But it's cleverly hinted at in the Order of the Phoenix adaptation when Neville's the first one to spot the prophecy. It could have been about him, but Harry's name was added after Voldemort tried to kill him. And Snape hates/bullies Neville because if Voldemort had attacked the Longbottoms, Lily might still be alive. Hermione always helped Neville in Potions in the books, and Snape hates seeing a muggle-born witch as talented as Lily give Neville a leg up. Snape feels his life will never be worth losing Lily's.

Two of my favorite characters in literature - Samwise Gamgee and Severus Snape. I remember finishing the last book just before Deathly Hallows part 1 came out. I kept saying how much I loved Snape, but my husband & daughter (who hadn't read the books) thought I was completely "off my rocker" as the saying goes. They knew that I knew something, but I didn't spoil it. I got a big kick out of watching them watch this movie & realizing that Snape was the hero all along. We thought the plot twist couldn't be any better than the one in Prisoner of Azkaban, with the reveal of Wormtail's treachery & Sirius being framed for the Potter's demise. That was incredible, but the ultimate plot twist with Snape (& Harry being a horcrux) was just mind blowing! JK Rowling has said that people should admire him for his courage, but he is a very complex & not a very likeable character with a lot of "darkness" in him. Don't forget he was once a sworn follower of Voldemort, by joining the Deatheaters. He turned on Voldy when he was just 20 yrs old when he overheard the prophesy that Prof. Trelawny spoke of to Dumbledore (Snape was eavesdropping). He went to Voldemort with that information. Voldy decided it must be Harry of whom the prophesy referred to & planned to kill him. That's when Snape turned double agent & began working for Dumbledore. Keep in mind that he was already a skilled enough Occlumens to fool Lord Voldemort himself when he turned spy against him. If you remember in Half Blood Prince when Narcissa & Bellatrix went to Snape's house to ask for help with Draco, Snape said the line "Your sister doubt's me. Understandable, over the years, I've played my part well. So well that I've deceived one of the greatest wizards of all time". In the scene, Bellatrix believes that he is talking about Dumbledore. When in fact, he could very well be referring to Voldemort as well.

Another level to Snape's motivations, is that he was spying for Voldemort, and heard part of the Prophecy. He was interrupted without hearing all of it. He took care to take out him wand but not brandish it, even telling Draco he would make it 'easy' for him, knowing Draco would jump the gun and disarm him. About the patronus of Snape and Lily. In the books they explain to you that basically your patronus is the “manifestation” of your soul in the form of an animal. It can be anything, but if something emotionally deep happens to you, it's form can change. Originally Snape´s patronus was another animal (I don´t remember), and when Lily died, his patronus took the form of hers (a doe). That's why Dumbledore after seeing the doe as his patronus (knowing that Lily´s was the same) asks him "after all this time?", as in you still have this patronus after all the time that has passed. And snape answers "always", because he will always love Lily. ❤🩹 ps. sorry for my english 😬

@judaychop Жыл бұрын
@@guitarsbunch347 yea I haven’t read the books in a while so i don’t remember if they ever satisfyingly explained how Harry lived, i don’t think Voldemort made himself a Horcrux for Harry, although the creation of the horcruxes has always been a huge plot hole in my opinion, because they would need to actively be made using some sort of magic, otherwise Voldemort would have hundreds of horcruxes from all the people hes killed, so it never really made sense that Harry was a horcux. I think i just remembered the explanation for Harrys survival, when Dumbledore first hears about Voldy using Harry blood to resurrect himself in the book Dumbledore had a quick look of Triumph, the reason Harry had to keep going back to the Dursleys was because the protection Lily provided with her sacrifice, Harry would need to live with blood relatives(Petunia)for the protection to stay active, to call a place home with family, i think Voldy using the blood made it so that protection was present any time Voldy was present, so when Voldy kills “Harry” he only killed the horcrux? It's a amazing series of films, Snape was deep undercover, remember Snape protected Harry during the Quidditch match and when he told Harry to remain silent just before he had to kill Dumbledore so that the others wouldn't know that Harry was there, his love was true, 'Always'. Longbottom was so important as only a true Gryffindor could draw that Gryffindor sword from the hat and slay Nagini, Voldemort's snake who had the Voldemort's Horcrux which is a piece of his soul, even if Voldemort's body had died his soul would live on unless all of the Horcruxes were destroyed.

Snape is one of the best written characters. His story is so tragic. In the book (and films) Snape was a Death Eater, but when he learned that Voldermort was going to target Harry due to the prophecy and by extension his mother, Lilly, he went to the only other wizard more powerful than himself to ask for help protecting her. He begged Dumbledore to save Lilly and in exchange he would become a double agent and work against Voldermort. So Dumbledore hid and protected the Potter family as best he could, but Wormtail (the rat man) betrayed the Potters (he was one of James' best friends from school). After Voldermort killed Lilly, Snape showed Dumbledore his Patronus charm, which was a Doe just like Lilly's. Thereby proving his undying love for her and his commitment to stopping Voldermort.
@themetalpig7613 Жыл бұрын
But Snape did get a chance to tell Harry how much he cared, by saying "you have your mothers eyes", a line Harry heard so much from all his friends that it got to the point he would say it before they could. The only reason Harry didn't see it coming from Snape is because it usually came after "you look so much like your father" whom Snape despised. Absolutely brilliant storytelling by JKR.

Some context from the books. Snape was a death eater before lily died. He changed allegiance after he begged Voldemort to spare Lilys life and Voldemort refused. He would’ve preferred it if Voldemort had killed Neville instead (as the prophecy could have applied to both Harry and Neville). So his reason of turning “ good” were somewhat selfish and mostly to honor lily. He hated harry because harry looked so much like his father. In the books Dumbledore tells Snape that “harry is much more like his mother than his father and if Snape paid attention he would see that”. Also, this is the reason Snape has always been especially cruel to Neville, he believes he should have been the one who died and not lily. He’s a flawed character, complicated for sure. But i wouldn’t say he had the biggest heart. I LOVED going on this journey again with you guys and I’m so sad it’s over 😢

I have immensely enjoyed watching the both of you watch these Harry Potter movies from the beginning. You have had the perfect reactions and responses throughout each movie, and it made me feel like I was experiencing them all again for the first time, and for that I thank you guys so much! My favorite part of your reactions has been watching you go through Snape's character arc and the crazy journey it takes you on. Even in the books it's still one of the biggest if not the biggest plot turn/twist in the whole series. Hermione is the actual GOAT and the MVP of the whole series and my favorite character. None of what they went through could have been done without her. Most underrated character is Neville Longbottom! The movies don't go into enough detail about him, but the prophecy that Voldemort wants in the 5th movie/book, is done by Professor Trelawney told to Dumbledore at her interview to be the Divination teacher at Hogwarts. Dumbledore didn't think she was a true seer and wasn't going to hire her and was about to leave when she went into her trance and makes this super important prophecy: "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches. And the Dark Lord shall mark him as his equal but he shall have power the Dark Lord knows not. For neither can live while the other survives." Harry and Neville actually have the same birthday, and both had parents who were in the original Order of the Pheonix fighting the Dark Lord. What's crazy is that Voldemort randomly chose Harry once they were both born, but the whole entire story could have been different had he chose Neville instead and went to kill his parents or his Grandmother instead, and maybe one of their undying love could have protected Neville against Voldemort's killing curse and he would have been the boy who lived instead. The books are so worth reading if you want more in depth information into this incredible story! So glad you guys enjoyed it! Keep doing what you're doing it's awesome!

I couldn't find a comment about it so I'll write it myself. The book had a clarification "one who was born at the end of July will kill the dark lord." The fact is that Harry's birthday is July 31st, and Neville's birthday is July 30th. Voldemort couldn't be sure which one of them should kill him, so he went to kill Harry himself and sent death eaters after Neville. So the "chosen one" could be Harry or Neville
