@@Eden_Rubin_Music No I think it's a fair thing to point out. Literary devices and story structure are not correlated to the aesthetic choices of a story. If you took this approach to every story, moments wouldn't hit as hard because you know the author is playing fast and loose with a story's continuity. If this story wasn't about wizards, this would still be a plot hole if the main villain had heard one of his supposed lackies was aiding the hero from the beginning but still trusted him. This "just turn off your brain and enjoy the movie" mindset is why we have been having a critical reading literacy problem. Also, JK famously likes to say she has had things planned from the beginning when she time and time again proves she didn't. She claimed she had Dumbledore as gay from the beginning. She claims Nagini was a shapeshifting carnival lady from the beginning. She claims Horcruxes were designed from the beginning. And once again we have an example of her tripping over her own continuity. If you don't point out these flaws, the author never improves, and considering how much universal praise JK got during Harry Potter's initial run, it seems she never learned from her own writing shortcomings.

One fact- Voldemort (Behind Quirell's head) never realized that Snape was a double agent. Quirell said that Snape was muttering a counter curse and saved Harry during quiddich match.

When Voldemort came back Snape had explained this to him- by switching sides and being good, he kept himself out of Azkaban and had years of information to give back to Voldemort if and when he returned. His story to Voldemort that his cover had to be absolute, to the point where he had to save Harry so Dumbledore wouldn’t suspect him.

It's not Harry's fault, when Voldemort returned to Hogwarts decades before this, he requested tobe a DADA teacher, but Dumbledore refused to offer him that role cause he suspected his intentions already, and Voldemort as retaliation cursed that job so that no DADA teacher would last longer than one year teaching at Hogwarts. The curse was broken and lifted once Voldemort died for good.

For the record, in case you didn't see it here, Quirrell was killed by Harry's touch. Lockhart was a fraud. Lupin wasn't fired. He resigned. Barty Crouch Jr. was posing as Moody. Umbridge got what she deserved!! And Snape took over for Dumbledore as Headmaster of Hogwarts. You call that by being fired by Harry? Most of these teachers brought it on themselves.

@@jonathantorres4085the sixth book explains why. Harry asks about the sorcerer's stone and Dumbledore tells him that Voldemort chose the horcruxes over it so he wouldn't be dependent. Because with the sorcerer's stone you had to keep making the elixir of life and Voldemort didn't want to rely solely on that.

This is explained at the start of book 6 Voldy didn't know if he could still trust Snape or if he'd changed sides, and being in such a weak state he didn't want to risk revealing himself. Meanwhile Snape (supposedly) wasn't aware that Quirrell was working for Voldy and though he just wanted the stone for himself. So Snape kept his cover and followed Dumbledore's orders to protect Harry and the Stone. He later defended himself by saying he wasn't aware that Quirrell and Voldy were working together, and that of course he would have helped them if only they'd let him in on the plan. Bella doesn't believe him and Snape points out that if Voldy didn't trust him then he'd surely be dead right now. But it turns out that with Snape being a master occlumens he was able to shield his true allegiance from Voldy this whole time.
