Interesting list, but even by the criterion of sticking to the films, many characters were left out. On the good side, Nymphadora Tonks, Bill Weasley, Fleur Delacour, Filius Flitwick, Nearly-Headless Nick, and Viktor Krum should have warranted a mention, and quite a few others (like the Patil twins and Charlie Weasley) would also be good for completion's sake. Sybil Trelawny would probably be in the grey area, albeit at the high end. And I'm not sure how so many creatures were discussed with no mention of Nagini beyond a passing mention of her fate at Neville's hands--Nagini definitely deserved a slot in the evil section. I'd also quibble with placing Harry and Dumbledore so high and Draco so low on the list. That said, it is a fine list overall.

Quirrel is ranked too low here, IMO. I didn’t really think there was much that distinguished him from the other Death Eaters (serving Lord Voldemort, endangering Harry, etc.). His motive for serving Voldemort was initially due to wanting more power for himself (since most saw him as a rather weak wizard, albeit intelligent) rather than pure-blood supremacy idealism. Later on, it was primarily due to fear rather than actual loyalty, like the more dangerous Death Eaters. Also, the nervous/anxious thing wasn’t completely an act; it’s been said that he was always like that, way before he started serving Voldemort. Personally, I would put him either right below or right above Wormtail.

A fun fact for ppl who didn't read the books: in the last one, there is actually a pretty surprising scene featuring Harry and Dudley. Dudley is confused why they are leaving Harry behind and wants Harry to come with them and they have a pretty heartwarming talk. Harry "jokes" that the Dursleys think he's the waste of space, and Dudley denies. And they shake hands. It kinda shows how Dudley finally matured. Because yes, he was awful, but he was basically brought up to be this way by his parents.

Yeah I agree Snape is too high, I think he should be nearly dead last in the grey area. Filch wasn’t really that bad he was just a grumpy and unpleasant old man and in some ways I can’t really blame him I mean he scrubbed the entire castle floors with a mop and bucket when other teachers could have just done it with a wave of their wands, also he spent night time patrolling corridors (did the guy even get much sleep?) Rita Skeeter, yeah maybe. Umbridge definitely be bottom 3, Quirrell should be between Lucius and Wormtail. Missing Harry’s parents of here was a BIG mistake, Lily should have been ranked as most good, James should have been further down in the good area because even though he was a bully at first he changed for the better.

Seriously the Basalisk is NOT more evil than Umbrige since it's a mindless beast, Umbrige sent many people to Azkaban and even used the Dementors Kiss on some of them, it's also implied that she sent the Dementors after Harry in Order of the Phenoix. Also the Dementors aren't as evil as you give them credit for as they did a good job keeping prisoners in Azkaban which can be credited as a good thing and they're also another example of mindless evil that doesn't have any moral agency and it's even more apparent that with the Basalisk, and Quirrel straight up fails the Harry Potter heinous standard.

Isn't "mindless evil" a contradiction in terms? To me the dementors are more like mindless beasts than anything else, and although they feed in an evil manner, if they actually are mindless, then they should be considered neutral. "I'm not evil, I'm just drawn that way." sort of matches the dementors. The same also applies to the basilisk, IMO.

Harry definitely would’t make my top 3, he is often quite arrogant, disregards the rules, ignores the advice and doesn’t really think things first before jumping into action (the most significant result of this would be death of Sirius and possibly death of both himself and ginny in CoS if it wasn’t for the help of a phoenix, are both results of bravery over brains - if the 4 houses are anything to go by, the same story would turn out very differently had harry had the characteristics of a Ravenclaw). Snape isn’t good either, to some he is good because he turned back on evil side because of his love, or more like an obsession over lily, which is not something good already, in my opinion at least, love or obsession over a woman in this case has nothing to do with his values and morals, Snape would be totally cool with working with voldy had he not killed lily or let’s say had he fell in love with another woman that would not stand in way, let’s say someone on the same team, like bellatrix. I do not remember Snape ever renouncing the ideology of death eaters, he is only painted as a good guy in the story because of the later narrative by dumbledore, harry and the author itself, who all put huge emphasis on love, for different reasons, as does snape too. Also on a similar note, if cursed child is considered cannon, cedric is one of the worst characters of the whole story, basically just a one bad day when he has his ego hurt away from becoming a murderous death eater. Which is weird considering in the original 7 books he did not seem like that at all

@@jeanv8249 The cursed child does not count. As a Hufflepuff myself, I find it hard to believe that Cedric would do all this because of humiliation. Cedric offered Harry a Quidditch rematch when he fell off the broom because of the Dementors, and I find it hard to believe that if Cedric coudn't control humiliation to the point of becoming a Death Eater he would still offer a rematch. If a person who is afraid of humiliation were told that there would be a rematch, he would say no, and if he would say yes, it was only because of his ego. Cedric was a person who won fairly, did not break any laws and all his cheating was done due to environmental circumstances only, so I find it hard to believe that losing to a 3rd year student is an option he would offer if his reputation was so important to him and not being humiliated was his target. And regardless, the cursed child just broke all the rules about Time Turners. The reality is supposed to happen already, it has no way to change and therefore, since this breaking of the rules happened, I would not consider it as a Canon.

I reject Hagrid as "Most Good." While he's always well-intentioned, his blind love of monsters has regularly caused dire consequences. No, Aragog was not the Heir of Slytherin (or whatever they called it), but he is still a massive monster who Hagrid raised on Hogwarts grounds since its childhood. Thanks to him there's an entire family of Acramantulas lurking in the Forbidden Forest, and he literally told Harry and Ron to GO THERE. Not to mention the whole thing where he just... told some random dude how to get past Fluffy, in exchange for *ahem* a freaking dragon egg, because I guess he didn't learn his lesson last time.

Intentions matter more than actions in determining one's true nature. Hagrid might be reckless, but he's not remotely malicious. That being said, I do think that while he deserves some of the top rankings, no. 1 is a bit of a stretch. That arguably belongs to Luna or Neville.

Thank you for this video! My favorite movie series (and books are even better). I agree with pretty much everything. I'm especially happy to see Harry so high, Snape in the neutral category (some people say he was good but... hell no, he was cruel to his students and did want to become a Deatheater, he just switched the sides later. I believe he's neutral and even more bad than good), Draco in bad/evil category (people act like not wanting to directly kill someone and watch someone being tortured and/or being raised in certain way erases all the bad things character has done, lmao, Draco was definitely more on the bad side, are we gonna ignore his hatred towards muggleborns and years of bullying main characters?) and Umbridge not being placed last - I know she's evil but there are even more evil characters! Bellatrix loved the Cruciatus curse, tortured Neville's parents to insanity, tortured Hermione and was the most loyal Deatheater. And Voldemort is just pure evil, definitely the most evil person out of these. Hagrid deserves the gold medal for sure, Neville is an amazing person indeed. I'd only place Luna a bit higher, maybe Ron too and switch Molly's and Dobby's places.

Draco in the books has much more development. He never ran away and his time as a death eater reformed him for the better, and abandoned the pureblood beliefs, he turned out to be a great father to his son, and trurly cared about his wife, and was devastated, when she died. So in the books, he is not a character you like throught most of the series, but in the 6th book you actually start to pity him, and in the 7th book he trurly starts reforming. He refused to turn in the Trio at the Manor. Also at the end of the battle of hogwarts he and his sat in the great hall with everyone else, not really sure if they should be there. I think most people look at things from book standpoint here. As do I. Honestly I think Draco is very comparable to Luke Castellan from Percy Jackson and the Olympians (If you haven't read, I'm not gonna spoil) And Hagrid as the most good is a bit.... i don't know... he is pure hearted, but he also had perhaps a bit too large affection towards very dangerous magical creatures, like when he attempted to raise a dragon by himself, Umbridge thing is probably a joke, as she is actually more hated character, so it kinda has been a running gag among Potterheads.

You're not including Lily and James Potter on the Good List? Lily was stated countless times that she was and uncommonly kind young woman and witch, befriending nearly anyone she met. And she gave her life trying to protect her son Harry from Voldemort. James on the other hand, should've been on the lower end of the Good List, maybe slightly higher than Aberforth. According to Snape, James was a lazy, arrogant swine, and too be fair he wasn't wrong. When Harry accidently looked into Snape's mind, he saw that his father was a troublemaker, and would frequently bully Snape during their time at Hogwarts. However, while he wasn't a good person, he certainly was a better father, as he sacrificed himself when Voldemort tried to kill their son

James's personality and traits says that he was lazy because Snape said so. But can we really take Snape's word for it? There's nothing else to indicate him as lazy. Snape even calls Harry lazy. James was willing to put in the effort to create the map, become an animagus, go an adventrures with a werewolf, play Quidditch, etc. To me, it doesn't look like a resume of a lazy person.
