The most Gen Z part of the Harry Potter fandom is 100% the marauders, an entire timeline made up by the fandom. You should definitely look into it, I'd say most of the fans are around 15-25. It's honestly massive right now, the most popular fanfic on archive is Marauders (ATYD's it's fantastic btw). Like the fandom took the wolfstar ship, ran and made like 10 more. So now the most popular ships are completely detached from the original. Like Jegulus- Harry's dead dad and Sirius' dead brother. Or Darlene, two very dead lesbians. Or Rosekiller, two dead gay death eaters. Like all of the marauders characters are dead in canon- except for Mary Macdonald. All of them die horrifically.

Obviously if they’re not doing harm to themselves or others, then fans enjoying themselves isn’t a problem. However, my concern with the “shifting” thing is that a) if waking up from a (??) dream (??) where you were in hogwarts causes you so much distress that you start sobbing, and b) you have such an intense break from reality that you fully believe you’re in a different universe, that sounds like a serious issue that needs to be looked at. Call me crazy but I don’t think what sounds like Psychotic breaks/episodes should be normalised and aimed for. No hate to them but that does not sound healthy.

There was one tiktok video I saw about some girl who believed she was a murderer, all because she had a weird dream where she killed draco malfoy, and she actually believed that she was about to be arrested and considered turning herself in for it, because she fully believed he's a real person that actually exists and therefore, she's a murderer. There's DEFINITELY people whose "shifting" is probably some sort of psychosis and they really need to stop making it seem like a normal and healthy thing to do, because it's doing more harm than anything to themselves and others.

I was really into Harry Potter when the books, audio, movies came out, even got a tattoo, merch and stuff, like all millennials did, and eventually moved on and got into other media. Damnn I remember that me and my cousin tried to shift there during the quarantine (We were like 12 😭). When she first told me about it I was scared and I wasn't going to do that, months later I was now using that as a way of escapism because of some issues I had at home. We got really into it for MONTHS, but then I realized that I was starting to be dependent of that idea of being at Hogwarts and it was starting to affect my real life so I stopped and she did too.
