Ce guitariste est monstrueux. C' est la version la plus folle et la plus belle d' Anji
@pinballwizard52324 жыл бұрын
Wonderful! Played like he has to catch the last train in 15 minutes, but without any carelessness. The high speed gives the song a powerful dimension.
@klarifoon4 жыл бұрын
Well, it wás one of his last songs on stage at that moment....so you've might be right!

What Harry did to this beautiful song is honouring the versions of both Davy Graham, Bert Jansch and Paul Simon, by including references to each of them. Then he speedit it up0, and made the song more joyful and playful (e.g. the triplet on the 2nd string) and more humoristic. He expanded the 'Working Song' solo and added a 'funny break', the melody of which has changed over the years. He also released the score for his version and made several generations of Dutch fingerpickers more than happy.

Ik heb hem vrijdag live gezien, echt geweldig! Een van de beste gitaristen die ik ooit heb gezien. Hij speelde op een gegeven moment ook nog samen met Rosenberg, dat was helemaal top.

Fantastic - He's been one of my favourite guitarists and guitar composers for years, but I've never seen him play, so thanks so much for posting!

Watch out! Sacksioni's version is highly addictive for any guitarist. Haven't been able to get it out of (well, not exactly into) my fingers for the past 20 years. Dutch Harry is sheer guitar genius. See more of him!

Ah! Comme j'aime les grenouilles. Les meilleurs sont les grenouilles qui croyent être musicales. Tout le monde sait que les grenouilles ont des oreilles merveilleuses! Ah! How I LOVE those frogs. The best are frogs who believe that they have a sense of music. The whole world knows that frogs have extremely good ears!

You lucky bastard! I can only retort that I heard the Beatles play live when I was 6 days old and lying in my cradle (Hillegom, June 5th, 1964). My mummy fortunately opened the kitchen window so I could hear them play. I remember John singing louder than Paul. It was on the intro of 'Roll over Beethoven' that I fell in love with guitar music. BTW, I am sure that it was Jansch who started to play 'Angie' faster and more playfully than Graham. Simon owes him, and his live playing is faster too.
@shwilly17 жыл бұрын
I've done a few attempts at playing this song, and it sounds pretty decent I must say... except for the palm muting stuff > I can't keep speed while muting all 6 strings at the same time, my right hand won't let me! Awesome performance!

Yep, he's been playing Anji on a nylon string guitar ever since he recorded it in 1976. He was using a Hopf by then with heavy gauge strings. Can you imagine Harry (or yourself) doing these great sound effects so smoothly on a guitar with metal strings?
@Pruneau15 жыл бұрын
De vingervlugste Nederlander!! Chapeau
@mcouzijn17 жыл бұрын
You are both right and wrong. The origin of Harry's "Anji" is Davey Graham's original composition (and the arrangements by Bert Jansch and Paul Simon). But Harry wrote a new arrangement, made it more playful and added a couple of original parts to the song. I guess that what is making us stand in awe for Harry's version is precisely what he arranged and 'wrote'.

Despite all the critics here, I actually like it. Well, most of it. When preformed like this it becomes a whole new song almost. It’s just groovy, liking it doesn’t have anything to do with «faster is better». Still though, Davy’s and Bert’s versions are untouchable.
@klarifoon6 жыл бұрын
Agreed on your critisism. Harry´s goal here was to entertain his audience by making it a ´danceable/swingable´ groove.
@samenzwering17 жыл бұрын
I agree with mcouzijn. It might be too fast for the listener, but for a guitarist it's quite a kick to play it this way
@filmkes17 жыл бұрын
This song is NOT written by him ! It is originally written By Davy Graham, and even performed by Paul Simon! But nevertheless I love his version, I play it myself since almost 30 years.

I know his version in "Live Optima Forma" and his arrangement is the best version I ever heard of this song. It's stunning that he is playing without the thumbpick...

Davey Graham never put the solo in this song. When Bert Jansch asked him if he could cover this song Davey said yes, but only if you put something else in it in the same key. So Bert put the work song in there.
@garthirving105610 жыл бұрын
I like his idea of extending Anji..Guitarists & Composers should submit ideas for doing this..Anji Variations for guitar..
@mcouzijn17 жыл бұрын
Davey Graham did *not* write the solo! He took it from a traditional, 'The work song', attributed to Nate Adderly & Oscar Brown Jr. Lyrics are: Breakin' up big rocks on the chain gang, Breakin' rocks and soothin' my time. Breakin' up big rocks on the chain gang, Oh Lord I committed a crime. Hold it steady right there while I hit it I reckon that ought to get it. Been workin', been workin', And I still got so terrible long to go.
