What I like about Harry is that, being who he is, he's priviledged to put out any music, his huge dedicated fandom will support it anyway. And he's using this priviledge the best way possible. Instead of quick "working" decisions he decides to explore and experiment and not to look around but look back in search of inspirations. He seems to be making music for himself, not for the radio or fans or whoever. "No collabs, no deluxes, no remixes" promo style is the fandom's meme by now but it's actually showing that he doesn't chase that big buck, there's just original release and the live shows. I respect that a lot.

Firstly, and for what my opinion is worth - I am a classically trained musician/composer - I agree with you about "Music for a sushi restaurant", a song which to me ultimately set the tone for the taste of culinary delights to come, every measure of Music that followed a morsel to savour. And for myself, I found something of a saviour in the last track "Love Of My Life." It is so beautifully crafted, how each phrase extends a welcoming hand as does anyone friend to friend even when bidding goodbye! "Things haven't been quite the same" in contemporary music since Harry Styles launched his career as a solo singer but to conversely reveal his greater truth as a songwriter. And make no mistake, he is a master-musician worthy of everyone's undivided attention. At 64 years of age, I find great comfort in knowing that young people especially have found such a role model in him. Therefore it is not all that surprising that I would step out of the comfort zone of my own genre of self-expression to proclaim his worth as real given that he is nothing if not true. It is that Music requires the reality of Truth its only measure to sustain it. Harry Styles crosses the threshold. Up until Harry's performance of "Falling" on the Brit Awards in London two years ago, I really had not paid all that much attention to him. His was simply a name I knew, that was all. The oversight was clearly mine and one which has since been rectified to fine effect. I can at least now say that I have listened to all of Harry's solo-career songs and that I am in complete awe of him! There has never been a moment when he has left me wanting. And this is also true of him as a performer. You see, within the broader scheme of more spiritual things, if the effect of Harry's music upon the mind within the moment of transference can transform it - as I believe it does - then the world is blessed to have such an Artist inhabit it; an Artist who is golden through and through. I believe the memory of Harry Styles in years to come will be something of Love's source itself recalled, in the exact same way we are all here to remember the Truth of Who We Are as people of compassion. Music has found a very fine home in "Harry's House" and I am grateful for the experience of it! Harry Styles, God bless you!

I knew he'd give this a 6 lol. Also, I don't know how much of the comparison to Patrick Bateman was criticism and how much was neutral observation, but that's honestly one of the reasons why I like this album especially but Harry's music more broadly. It's pop, it's very accessible, but it's not mindless either; the production is intentional and multifaceted with cute little details and touches. He said one time that his philosophy in making music is "go to the limits of my comfort zone, and then push just one step further", and I think that's a great encapsulation of his music and why I enjoy it. It's easily enjoyable and doesn't take much effort to listen to, but it also has complexities that endear me to it and give it staying power.

I thought your take that this record is meant to sound like it is something Harry himself would want to listen to which is why there is a lot of 70s/80s influence. However, you mentioned that influences on this album seem obvious, which I disagree as I feel like his musical influences seem more obvious in his previous albums, especially regarding individual tracks. This album acts like a fusion for all his inspirations, which somehow makes it sound more individual to Harry. Overall, this is his best album thus far.

I think the growth in quality from the first record to this one have been much greater than you let on. I’d honestly give this is a strong 7, I really dug it. It’s good to hear someone in Harry’s position making more intricate music from a live instrument standpoint

@Ro Kale agreed, fine line was way better
@thetruth8302 жыл бұрын
@Ro Kale Nah, his debut is definitely his worst. It's so fake and try-hard, the influences sonically are way too heavy on it and the lyrics are ridiculously shallow. Fine Line is hard to beat though.

I was a bit thrown off by the production but it grew on me a lot after first listen it's addictive, I kinda miss these songs when I'm not listening to them. Also, regardless of the production, his music translates perfectly to live performance and when he and his band play it, the songs get a completely new life. Fine Line is still my favourite so far but with the speed HsH grows on me, this might change. I love the debut one as well, being Harry's fan I might be a bit biased.

If this album was released 40 years ago I would have grown up on it. I could definitely see my mum owning this. That's no knock. I definitely hear Father of the Bride. Everyone rushes to say Prince or Mick everytime Harry does anything but I hear something else on this record New Romantic. The movement from the early 80s not one of my favorite T Swizzle songs. New Romanticism was based on David Bowie's "Plastic Soul" of the "Young Americans " album, Roxy Music and Robert Palmer.(for you kids who don't know). I agree it's a perfectly fine album. It may grow on me as the Summer goes on but right now I would rather listen to those 3 artists or Duran Duran, ABC, Culture Club and Human League. Really waiting for Harry to rise above his influences .

I was about to start hating but then I actually listened to this Harry Styles album and was pleasantly surprised. Lyrics are meh but there’s a lot of cool music and ideas on here especially love some of the bass on this album.

Harry's House was a record I originally disliked. I didn't get the hype for it because I was so into the previous two records, and I guess I wanted this album to be just like them. This album is more experimental than the previous two and even takes a step into musical realms that Harry hasn't done before which is interesting. The production on this album is insane, you can really hear all the backing instruments and the bass more clearly and really hear the soundscape of everything coming together. As It Was, Music For A Sushi Restaurant, Late Night Talking, Keep Driving, and Matilda are highlight tracks for this record in my opinion. This album was fun and nice. Definitely better than my first impression of it lol

@Darkvelvet377 I'd recommend listening to this album with good quality headphones or earbuds and see how you feel afterwards. That's how I did it. But then again, this album and experimental style isn't necessarily for everyone so you may still not like it. But yeah.
@markthedark595 Жыл бұрын
@Darkvelvet377 like I said, it may not be for everyone. But I found that good quality headphones or earbuds really did make the album MORE enjoyable or at least for me so yeah.

I'd say that about his first, this one is more of an overall hit as a piece, while his debut album has half of the songs being his best and the other half being his worst
@DannyNoLove172 жыл бұрын
@@thetruth830 completely agree. I think people are overhyping this recent album because it's a lot more consistent both lyrically and muscially but as individual songs I haven't really had the desire to listen to most of them. His debut album is also the one I go back to the most but not sure what you mean by it having his worst songs. For me the only track that I don't like is From the Dining Table
@thetruth8302 жыл бұрын
@@DannyNoLove17 I actually like this album the most, I meant tracks like Two Ghosts, Sweet Creature, and Ever Since New York being incredibly boring sonically and too long and lacklustre, and Woman is so repetitive and sonically uninteresting, plus to me Meet Me In The Hallway seems like it’s trying too hard to come off as edgy and just falls flat lol, but the other half is fantastic: Sign Of The Times, Carolina, Kiwi, Only Angel and From The Dining Table are some of his best work!
@thetruth8302 жыл бұрын
@@DannyNoLove17 Exactly agree otherwise though! As a quick bite if I want to listen to an overall album I’ll go to this one but as individual tracks his first album will do it for me
@DannyNoLove172 жыл бұрын
@@thetruth830 Ok, I get what you're saying. I hardly ever listen to album's in their entirety outside of when it's released. I mostly listening to my songs on shuffle without skipping so I'm used to the inconsistent feeling. I would even go as far as to say that Fine Line is better as individual tracks, this new album was honestly such a miss for me but music is probably one of the most subjective pieces of art there is so in a way it makes sense.

I a not a Harry Styles fan, but "Late Night Talking" will go down as a classic song. It has all the elements of a classic pop song: the lyrics that are catchy but still have lines that are a cut above the typical pop song, an even catchier hook, an intoxicating beat, and Harry's singing is at it's best in terms of pitch, intonation and clarity. Trust me that, 20 years from now, when this song plays at the club or at parties, people will collectively cheer. I have lived long enough to know what makes a song to become a classic.
