Aurora kits were astonishing. I have this kit, the Spindrift from 'Land Of The Giants', the UFO from 'The Invaders', and The Voyager from the animated 'Fantastic Voyage' show. All have interiors, and figures. I had an uncle who was in the Merchant Navy, who had a knack of seeing something on a voyage and knowing I'd like it. We only saw him a few times a year, but every time, he brought me, and later, me and my brother, cool stuff we'd never heard of. Aurora kits were a favourite, especially the glow in the dark horror kits.

I remember being on a school trip to a Zoo, when I was a kid, and being both fascinated and amused on seeing a Wombat 'squeaking one out', and the turds being little cubes. A Rhinoceros dump is cube shaped, too, but much larger. Faecal matter is always funny to children. But nobody else.

Aurora models were quite popular in Canada back in the day. I likely had half a dozen or so but only 2 SF, UFO & Seaview. The best detailed model from this company in my experience was their HMS KGV, the main stay of my mini fleet until Airfix version available. Thx for the memories.

Had the original Aurora Seaview model in the '60s - it was neat, but the problem was it was molded in all-black plastic. Tough to cover in gray paint from those little Testors paint bottles!

@@HarryHoudiniModels if I was bragging I would have said 39 inches . That sounds bigger . But the idea Of a hole opening in the bottom if it to drop something sounds too weird for that comparison.

Aurora kits were everywhere in Belgium. I bought my first Flying Sub in 1971 in a souvenir store! I've just ordered the Moebius retooled version. A bit disappointing that the engine room with its two turbines and control panel seem to be missing. I'm tempted to get the lighting kit and the photo-etched interior parts as well.

The lighting and PE upgrade would add a great touch to the kit.

It was voyage to bottoms of sea land of giants then little house on the prairie. This was in the early 90s so it was already a classic .wish kits like this was readily available. Harry, I had the mobius models kit, and I stuffed up the paint job. Trying to mask the fins and the circular top hatch was just impossible. Also, I used a tamiya rattle can, in camel yellow for the main color, and that didn't want accept the dark blue of the circular part of the hatch and fins because it's a poly carbonate from memory.
@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
Tamiya rattle cans usually are lacquer paint. So to paint over them may require an acrylic clear coat, if using water based or even alcohol based paints. Yellow is a bugger of a colour and usually needs a white, pink, or very pale blue coat underneath to work well. Any dark colours would just bleed through.
