As someone who was raised by a veteran father with lots of military related trauma, I am quick to agree that veterans need better support and community post service. But that should probably come from funding vet organizations, deprogramming, and therapy; not a tv channel that makes it seem like a quirky little thing people go through :( love this video!

The constant jokes about “quirky 🤪 goofy little warcrimes”, murdering civilians, racism, and the way they talk about how they “were just following orders, were just the guys who had to do an unpleasant job” has some very… strong connections to the kind of sentiments that came out of the Nuremberg trials.

shows like this are always so weird and honestly a disappointment. my dad was in the military for 20 years and I spent my entire childhood wrapped up in that environment. and there's definitely a ton of discussions and humor to be made from it all. on the one hand, having something dedicated to military families is nice cuz it can feel very isolating. but on the other hand, it can devolve into yikes territory just so quickly. these shows ain't it cheif. for the record, I don't like the military establishment. it's manipulative and preys on the vulnerable. growing up in it only made me realize at a very young age how little I wanted to do with it all when I got older.

Good video. I'm a veteran and one of my best friends, also a veteran, actually works for Black Rifle Coffee. Anyway, I probably couldn't get through a single episode of these crappy shows. I Actively avoid this type of 'entertainment' these days. I realized something important a long time ago about military-related entertainment in America... It's ALL PROPAGANDA! there's really no such thing as an anti-war movie. Even movies like Starship Troopers, Platoon, and Full Metal Jacket ended up inspiring more young people to enlist. It is what it is.

a lot of this comes down to this: 'dark humour' isn't the same thing as making 'jokes' where the entire punchline is calling someone a slur. if your comedy rests entirely on calling people slurs or being racist or sexist, there's a pretty good chance you're just not that funny.

The assertion they make in their channel intro implying that there is a specific way that military service causes you to become is inherently stupid and insulting to it's supposed audience. There are a lot of vets who gain insight into the realities of the world without becoming jaded jerkoffs (literally here I guess). One of my favorite channels, knowing better, is run by a veteran and he is one of the most empathetic, socially aware people I have seen who used his service experiences as really cool insights. One of my own friends who went off for 8 years and served on submarines came back home and was basically the exact same guy, cause it turns out some people just are who they are regardless of their career. Basically pigeonholing is dumb, but especially when done by people to their own supposed in group. Also as a supposedly cis straight guy, you are just cute as a button when you laugh. I don't know what to take away from that, but hope it wasn't too rude to say!
@annapruitt55462 жыл бұрын
Right it feels super insulting. Like the narrator voice saying that it can isolating and difficult to come back to regular life and interacting with people totally makes sense. But then the video is this total asshole looking character behaving inappropriately? Like they’re saying military bros are gonna be sexually harassing all women and drawing gross things in class and like that is normal and okay? Why would that be their example?? It comes across like they are actually making fun of soldiers and how they act when they come back. It feels like they are minimizing the issue and insulting military and also men as a whole.

Really appreciate how civilians are talking about Vet TV.... Vet TV talks about how civilians do not understand veterans or their humor and your video demonstrates that... If you don't like it, don't watch it because you have that freedom for which Vets fought for..our society doesn't realize we have tasked these young men to be killers and they are good at what they do. A form of stress relief is to laugh about it, especially after a few tours
@tonichan892 жыл бұрын
Can you explain what slurs and vulgar sexism have to do with being a killer? I'm genuinely wanting to know, because yes, I don't understand it. Where do those things connect with laughing about the violence/killing they're exposed to? Are they not completely separate subjects? Afaik, 'dark humour' is being macabre and joking about dark scenarios including things like violence, death, suicide, etc. I didn't see that in these clips or the general 'humour' that some veterans seem to claim. I can understand joking about masturbation because that is a coping mechanism, and it's more self-deprecating than antagonistic. That kind of checks out. But where does the bigotry/sexism come in and why should those specific things be validated? Again, would really appreciate a thorough explanation if you're willing to give it. "You don't get it" isn't very enlightening or inspiring much empathy, but that's the only defense I see in these comments.
