No need to apologise Harry, that was a great video as always. Maybe get a camera with a mic input then get a lapel mic for this sort of stuff. The most frustrating things about your videos is poor sound! A Zoom H6 and some DPA mics would really improve your vids no end and would let us properly hear your cars. The H6 records six channels at once. Imagine two at the intake, two at the exhaust and two in car which you could then rebalance afterwards. If you need a Rent-a-Nerd I'm here :)

sound quality is fine, for a handheld camera anyway. By the way, I was wondering what camera you're using. Colors are fine. Do you mind saying? Is it a Sony? Or maybe Canon. I can only guess.

Thanks Harry. Some pretty interesting cars on display as always. The look of that F12 has really grown on me. It didn't excite me at first I thought It looked a bit boring and plain but I find myself keep wanting to get another look at it. There's something very elegant and classy about it. Hope we get to see you drive It some day.

Pagani used to come out with something new nearly every year. The Zonda is in my top ten of favorites, but the Huayra did away with everything I loved, the looks, the stick shift, the natural aspiration and the lack of airbags, and they won't update the darn thing! Audi seems to have thrown in the towel on making attractive cars, perhaps as a way to make the Veyron look less like the cleft-lip brute I find it to be. Since the 2015 Geneva show looks more like a science fair, I'd like to have a moment of silence for incredible things throughout the years I've lived, a list not limited to but including: Diablo GT, Z06, Carrera GT and GT3 RS 4.0, Aston DBS and One-77, CLK-GTR and GT1, Mclaren F1(GT, LM, HDK and GTR), Elise, Zonda, SLR Stirling Moss, 599 SA Aperta and 360 Modena, R8, MC-12 and nearly every coachbuilt Ferrari, specifically that gold one and Clapton's beast.

For me the rear of the Bentley is a dream but the front was a nightmare.
@vdevov9 жыл бұрын
@16:50 For the Audi rear wing, for greater aero-efficiency, the underside of wings should be cleaner than the topside. Just like an airplane wing, it's not that air is *pushing* the wing in a certain direction, it's that the lack of pressure on one side it *pulling* on the wing. The underside of the rear wing, being clean, allows for more consistent low pressure on that side, to allow more downforce.
@DoriFord9 жыл бұрын
thanks for a good explanation!
@DoriFord9 жыл бұрын
David Lewis basically, it's all the same. The key here is that the "drag control" is more important than the frontal area shape. A car is moving slower through air because of the air sucking it backwards, not because of the frontal area shape. My aerodynamic studies shown that almost any car front end would work okay in terms of aerodynamics, as long as it's not a pure brick. The rear is more important for drag coefficient reduction than the front. You can dramatically reduce drag coefficient if you use exhaust gases clever enough.
@DoriFord9 жыл бұрын
David Lewis It's not a prob for me. First of all, try looking at A2 Wind Tunnel channel on youtube. You'll find out that a car with advanced aerodynamics (i.e. frontal spoiler in GT40 style: frontal entrance + heated by radiator + low pressure exit = lots of downforce) like Lotus Elise is more like a Toyota Previa minivan - the amount of air going up (used to create downforce) makes it look like a minivan for the air itself. Second, there is an amazing web based aerodynamic simulator, pure scientifically based yet easy to use FlowIllustrator.com - you can try different shapes and speeds, you'll see that the front end shape won't change the air flow much. The "push" factor is very applicable in terms of Newton's 3rd law - area and angle are used for easier calculations. However, my explanations are more related to the car design and things which would and wouldn't work. I'm a beginner car designer, and it was pretty damn cool to find out that the front end shape doesn't matter much for the drag coefficient and adapt some explanations. Look at the cars that have somewhat low drag now: new MB C-class is about 0.23, not so far is Peugeot 508 and a bricky Nissan GT-R isn't far from them too, somewhere in 0.28ish ! And Volvo 740 had better Cd than a Countach! See the irony of real-world aerodynamics?
@DoriFord9 жыл бұрын
David Lewis You're welcome! It's good to hear that it's interesting for you. Flow illustrator is a heavily Navier-Stokes based program, though the input is just a bitmap image, if you split a car in sections and/or create various orificies (in the front) to imitate airflow coming from side or coming out of somewhere, you can get decent simulation at a fraction of time that you'd need with CFD 3D software. Anyway, I've never worked with a wind tunnel, but I'm common with cylinder head porting which is an interesting thing, as I've found out that it works vice versa what you expect it (if you apply laws for exterior car aerodynamics). A closed system, like a cylinder head port, dramatically reacts on cross-section area increase or decreas. If you increase and are somewhere, not only the speed would drop (as you do expect), but the airflow would actually be there - it would be literally sucked in that expanding point, because it's a closed system. If you think about a closed wheel sportscar, a car is like a knife going though a pressurized butter. Not only you have airflow on the hood/roof and etc, but you also may have a lot of airflow on the sides - it's up to you, either you can manage to use it, or, like in F1, you can dismiss it and let it flow around the wheels/sides. Well, as a car designer, I've found out that it's possible to make any car flow pretty good with some attention to the aerodynamics, so designing a car purely for low drag and better aerodynamics makes little or no sense to the drag coefficient. However, it's possible that the popular drag coefficient is not a very good way to estimate real life aerodynamics of a car. LaFerrari seems to have a good amount of holes inside its body so it should be cutting air pretty good! And I like the water/dirt tests too. You can see real life flow tests of a car, if you drive behing it. And if a car pushes on ful throttle, you can see how exhaust biases air, creates vortexes and it's being sucked in the low pressure area behind that test car. The point of my recent studies was to define how a 400 km/h supercar should look like in terms of aerodynamics and how I can reduce drag by heat management, exhaust gas pointing and use of pre-designed vortexes. That all sounds cool, but right now I'm a little unsure how big would be the real life gains of all that tech...
@DoriFord9 жыл бұрын
David Lewis Sure, low speed car can be fine with aerodynamics of any kind (like a city bus). However, I'd rather go for increasing speed limit, while maintaining safety. I have a concept of interactive pavement which can dramatically help the idea. I think it's stupid to drive cars slower than public transport can do.
