Can't say I agree with the review though. This has to be one of my favourite episodes because of its simplicity and things seem to actually tie together quite well. Its as though this folk law-esque tale is like a destiny for Victoria planned by the local monastery that just never came into being. Its all very conspiracy theoryish and I think the CGI has aged really well making this very rewatchable. Also, that scene with Victoria and the gun is just pure epic and just gives it 5 stars for me immediately haha. I do respect a lot of your points though :)

Yeah I loved this episode but that fight scene at the start was one of the worst things in Doctor Who history. Luckily it doesn't last too long. [EDIT] Also, Queen Victoria wasn't disgusted by them saving the world, but for doing it in such a happy-go-lucky kind of way.

Before season 2 began airing I remember binging on Eccelstons episodes after watching it's Christmas special. I loved how season 2 had this fresh look on the Doctor and made me appreciate the earlier episodes even more. I was so excited about this episode with it's shift in tone. The trailer looked incredible. I don't think I'll ever get this, queasy-excited feeling like I did watching the next-time trailer as a kid, any time in my life again

Beginning of video: "I have no interest in reviewing average episodes" End of video: "4 out of 10". What? This must have been a bummer for you! It's a real shame that those monks get unexplored as an idea. Why do they know martial arts like they're Taoist monks when they're apparently Christian monks in Scotland? It seems everything Davies knows about monks he learned from the AD&D Players Handbook! The convenient plot resolution is slightly improved compared to RTD's convenient plot resolutions of the previous season because Davies sets up the telescope and the gem early on the episode. This was a tip he picked up from Moffat. He actually asked Moffat why during season one all the fans were complaining about "deus ex machina" endings, and Moffat explained that the resolution to a story needs to be set up fairly on hidden in plain sight so the audience don't feel you've cheated. This was Davies' first attempt at applying that advice. It's still not that great, mind, because it relies on the tools for the resolution being deliberately left behind by characters that we don't see and we don't know why or how they would know that it would work. One-parters frequently sucked back then, because they tried to fit traditional Doctor Who story ideas into the time frame usually given to a Star Trek story idea.

I have absolutely no recollection of this episode. The premise looks like an unused Tom Baker Gothic era script rewritten by RTD, after plenty of drinks: "Yeah, and there will be shaolin monks doing sommersaults, audience will crack open the ceiling * looks at a promo poster of Jet Li in Fearless, on movie theaters around 2006 * And... * looks at old tat having imagery of Prince Charles and Lady Di * Queen Victoria making the Doctor and Rose sir and lady for giggles and British tradition quota! I have the best ideas, hehe"

Think you were very harsh here. The nakedness isn’t a crude joke, it’s era appropriate. The monks want the queen to become a werewolf because they have control over the wolf and would therefore have the throne. I don’t see anything wrong with the POV shots from the wolf (you’d want to kill and eat everything you saw too if that’s how you see thing). I don’t think it’s the shows fault for not being able to show men being literally torn apart because of age demographics. The doctors explanation of the wolf and mistletoe isn’t wibbly wobbly timey wimey, it makes a lot of sense and is a legitimate tactic used in training animals. Robert doesn’t have the information on the creature, they read the books so they can find out about the meteorite crashing and the Doctor works out FROM THAT, that the wolf must be alien. Girls in the kitchen throwing mistletoe is not convenience as we were shown them working out the solution and preparing it, it was a well established element of the story by this point. I imagine Roberts father and Prince Albert weren’t planning on being dead when the wolf came and had planned to carry it out themselves, leaving only the Doctor to be able to work out the real use of the telescope. I’m regards to the queen being cut, camera angles and cuts are a thing, it is possible we didn’t see the scratch which is exactly what makes the ending ambiguous and I don’t think the doctor and rose toying with the idea is cringey because it ties in real world facts (the royal disease) to the story which is a nice detail. Plus the monks didn’t win because they dead. I meannn... she’s playing the queen. She’s allowed to add gravitas. Doesn’t make it cringey. And setting up Torchwood isn’t a villain move, she’s just seen first hand that aliens exist and so of course it’s necessary to setup an organisation that fights back, she just counts the Doctor with this because as soon as he arrived, everything went horrifying and he was quite clearly lying through his teeth and deals with this stuff often, so whenever he appears, chances are some bad shits gonna happen.

Worst Doctor Who episode ever is Fear Her - it has every middle class, pan ethnic, BBC viewer cliché all rolled into one. By trying to be everything to everybody, it just becomes a nothing for nobody bore-fest. Even thinking about it makes my teeth grind! Gotta stop now or I'll put my blood pressure up too high and I'm really looking forward to a morphine induced sleep tonight without interruption lol. On another note - I managed to survive another 9/11 without the Americans taking us into yet another illegal war, so at least I'm not too stressed at the moment.
