I have always seen the men in my life with tools between my great grandpa, grandpas, uncles, dad, and my brother. I personally am new to tools. I stared with Hart when I needed a drill to put together a wooden desk. I didn't know there was a difference between brushed and brushless, or that bits, extenders, blades, etc are kind of replaceable. The first time a bit broke I thought my set was done. I was ready to go buy a whole set so I had my whole set. I am so thankful for my Honey! He explained everything to me. Now I am a Dewalt Girl! Keep the reviews coming! They are super helpful!

I got the Versastak for my brother. He helped me out a lot earlier this year with some family stuff, plus, I’m tired of going over to help him out with something and he doesn’t have the right tool. I think Craftsman is on the right track and I’m hoping their warranty (should he need it) is going to be an easy process. If Ace or Lowes won’t do it, Craftsman claims on the website that it’s easy and no questions asked.

Hey cool review. Just wanted to let you know about Hart and there warranty. I bought there 68 piece impact driver set for my DCF 840. Yeah, one of the things that makes me like the gear wrench set that I'm thinking of getting that similar in size, after looking at your review is the fact that I can open one drawer and probably break something loose for a bolt. Bolt. Yeah, you're not going to always need the screwdriver for your sockets but a lot of times it's really all you need is to just break something loose and then loosen it by hand. And sometimes pulling out a whole set to to do that is a little bit much when you have to open up 2 to 3 drawers to get what you need to get.

Bought a black friday tool deal from Home Depot I got the DeWalt 226 piece mechanics tool set in the Toughsystem tool box. Had an issue right out of the gate with the lowest tray that holds the deep sockets being broken when I opened the tool box. And then found out that DeWalt does not warranty the trays only the tools in the tray also the toolbox is not covered under the factory warranty. Home Depot did make it right by giving me a partial refund for the damaged box as they were out of stock of the tool sets and were unsure of when they would get more so I will have to see if I can repair the tray with some epoxy. Overall I am happy with the set based on how complete it is and the small amount of filler that was included with the box.

@@projectkarr Wish I could post the pictures I took of the damage but not able to on here. The tray was broken into 4 pieces. The tray had the entire center section busted out of it and the center part was broken into 2 pieces so it was a bit of a jig saw puzzle to get back into the proper position but I now have it epoxied back together so I will see how it works once the epoxy fully sets and cures. I will put the sockets back into the tray in the morning after allowing a few hours for the epoxy to fully setup.

I've been following your CV series of videos reviewing the tool sets with great interest. I have a set I've cobbled together over the years, but it has some gaping holes (zero metric half inch sockets, etc.) I was considering filling it out with the small, specific sets of the tools I need. but it was nearly as expensive as one of these sets. The downside of buying one of these sets is I would end up with duplicates and triplicate of tools I never use as well as paying for filler. Then, I got an impact ratchet (35 ft. lbs.) that came with admonitions to only use impact sockets because chrome sockets could shatter under an impact load. Personally, I think that could be avoided with some skilled and judicious use of the impact, but I'm not sure. So I am considering purchasing a full set of impacts rather than one of these sets, to use as my primary kit. Is this practical? I know the impacts are more expensive. After hearing you speak about Tekton, i decided I wanted to get some into my set, and Amazon has some great deals on the Tekton impacts, especially the 3/8". Makita has the best (and only?) deal that i could find on the 1/4" drive impacts and Dewalt has a smoking deal (comes with heavy duty 1/2" ratchet, adapter ,and extension)on the 1/2" drive impacts. I could put together a decent set for just under $200. Again, is this practical, or am I overlooking some issues that would arise from using impacts as my primary set? I do DIY home and auto. Thanks for this series. I've found your channel to be the best place to find out exactly what's in these sets, to have a good look at them without visiting the store, and to get your educated opinion about their quality. Sorry about the length of this, I had a lot stored up.
@projectkarr3 жыл бұрын
Great comment and it’s very clear you’re doing some research. 35 ft. Lbs. is very low and would have a low probably of anything happening to a chrome socket. I’ve used chrome sockets with 350+ ft lb impacts with no issues (although I do not recommend that). As far as using only impact sockets, the only real downside is they will typically have thicker walls than chrome sockets so there’s a chance you run into fasteners you can’t fit them on if you’re in a tight space. Currently Tekton doesn’t have 1/4” impacts and dewalt/makita are great choices. One question is do you need metric and SAE or just metric? Since impacts are more expensive you could go all Metric to save a little. Pittsburgh impact sockets would work and come in just metric or SAE. Also they have one of the better lifetime warrantees if you live near a harbor freight. Sorry for the long reply but hopefully that helps a little.
@richardvale2143 жыл бұрын
@@projectkarr Thanks for the detailed response.if you have something to add, please do, as I value your opinion. I see I was not too far off in my estimation of how necessary impact sockets are with an impact wrench, but it's really good to get a real world anecdote (350 ft lbs.) The "wider socket" issue was one I needed to hear about too. I heard your suggestion about focusing on either metric or SAE on another of your videos and found it intriguing. Glad you brought it up again. In the past, there was always a reason to get those SAE, but now, it seems, nearly everything is metric. So I will give that idea some more consideration. Oh, and thanks for the inadvertent English grammar lesson-- write in short paragraphs, double space between. Thanks again, that was very helpful.
