I get my exercise with brisk walking in the fields about 5 miles a day (about 35 miles a week) I don’t jog or run, as although my joints are in good shape, no point in hammering them! Health seems good. Body weight, bmi, rest heart rate low, blood pressure ideal. Everything perfect! I am 77.

Bravo! I was great at swimming and track and field, then a hiatus of a few yrs then a corporate job I hated and hit the pool to survive it and what a difference. 65 now consistent hiker interrupted by a back injury but with dog will travel. I think people need to find something they like doing and just do it; when I can work with a physio guy again I'll incorporate other stuff but it's not a competition on instagram -- easy for me to eschew social media but not unaware of its influence, you sound like a real survivor and I think of myself like that as well.

William - do you happen to have any autoimmune conditions? I have one and whenever I see information around boosting the immune system I never know how it relates to those of us who have overactive immune responses.

@@deniseg4028 I have, and from my experience what the doctor said about mice was true for me. If I'm not active my RA makes me stiff, and if I over exercise that's too much. When I get carried away I walk 3 miles on a treadmill 5 time a week. That's too much I find and 3 time a week (every other day) is best for me
@deniseg4028
@deniseg4028 3 жыл бұрын
@@scotttracy9333 Thank you Scott. Glad to hear you've found what works for you. I have insulin resistance and diet and exercise keep me out of the diabetic glucose numbers. But my autoimmune condition is one that is a bit of a mystery. As for my activity, I was an athlete when I was younger and I can still kill it on the tennis court, I'm much stronger at 49 than when I competed as a junior. But sometimes during my HIIT workouts at home I suddenly get a strain in my chest that makes me feel a bit sick and makes me wonder am I about to have a heart attack or something. Of course I stop. My breathing is always fine, not sweating, and I recover within seconds. I never feel depleted after the workout, they always give me energy. So it's weird. I can't find a pattern to the reaction, it's very few and far between, but I do suspect that it happens on days that I'm over-stressed and I haven't been breathing properly. I'm going to do breathing exercises beforehand and see if it still happens here and there. The bottom line is always listen to your body so I am absolutely paying attention. I can't bear the idea that all of this effort could make me worse off than not doing it at all!

Natural Killer cells are also enhanced by plant phytoncides from inhaling near to plants. The work by Qing Li and others into forest or nature medicine evidences this. And blue spaces (water bodies) make you happier. And grounding (being barefoot) can also add physiological benefits too. So where you chose to exercise massively helps.

You need to build up to exercises slowly to prevent injury. Walking is a great starter, and you can gradually add short jogs to your walks. Increase time of jogs 10% a week. Run slow and easy to build strong bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, heart, lungs and immunity. Training slow and long is best to build strength and avoid injury, also as it's easy your more likely to do it.

I'm in my 60s and just regular walking has been a great help. There's a very steep hill near where I live and before I started regular walking a couple of years ago I would struggle to walk up there - thinking 'how much further?' and 'do I need to stop for a minute/' etc. Now it's a breeze to walk up there. Just regular walking even for older people can really help. I don't run though - I started but got an ankle injury first day out even though I started very slow and easy. The advice I got was all 'you need the right shoes, the right speed, the right gait, the right surface, don't go downhill, don't go uphill, not far enough. too far etc' and everyone I knew who ran regularly had had some kind of knee problem from doing it. So it's walking for me.

Probably add in cheat days once in a while on everything.

I'm nearly 73. Today I worked with a helper. He mixed concrete and I lifted 5-gallon buckets (ok, half-full) of concrete up a ladder to the top of the wall to pour a beam for a new roof. Does this count as exercise? Good video. Lack of motion is death. I try to be active at least six days a week. I (moderately) lift weights for a few minutes most every day to keep my musculature in tact. My wife tell me not to overdo. I eat KETO, have no diagnosis and take no meds. I'm wondering if I keep this up if I can eek out another twenty or thirty healthy years. As to Covid, I don't want to get it, but I think I am starting from a good baseline; I don't fear that it will kill me.

Mainstream medical industry continue coming up with vaccines, masking, hand washing etc as symptoms treating solutions. One caveat; don't go from 0 to 100; in my case, 65 now, due to a back injury I was pretty much in bed for 3 yrs ... 2 yrs ago I had serious problems with balance not to mention all the other stuff but ramping up slowly over 6 months gave me the temerity to get a dog, essential beings in my life and currently put in an hour and half with her getting out twice a day plus other activity possible in Covid 19. Still need physio when that becomes available but the effect is HUGE on mood blood sugar levels consistent energy focus etc. Weight was never an issue but frailty and bone mass density YES. I also have found great benefit over the last 2 yrs gradually achieving a fully plant-based whole food diet, which is incredibly easy if you love food and world cuisine and also incredibly cheap comparing the price of beans and meat etc. And yes for me there are ethical reasons. I cheat every few months with a bit of smoked salmon or parmesan over pasta for which I feel no shame. 95% healthy vegan works for me. I suppose I'm commenting because health videos on youtube usually focus on 20 something young people; the reality is the general population and health as you age much more of a concern wherever you began.

My father who seemed to have some kind of a restlessness about him mostly as he got older seemed to exercise himself to death. Everyday of his retirement he was exercising one way or another. Jogging, biking, walking, yardwork, golfing, seemed to be his preferred methods. In the end he was diagnosed with PSP and became trapped in his body. It was very sad as he loved being active. I always wondered if the 2 things were related. As I get older 60 now, I excercise in moderation. Strength training. Walking. Hiking. Skiing. On rainy or wintry days I put on dance music and dance for 30 mins plus. I think 360 deg gentle to moderate movement of our body's total aspects everyday is probably best to keep joints open and functioning.

Jogging or running is extremely hard on the knees as you are slamming down onto a hard surface...which in time (guaranteed) will have a negative impact on your joints that you will regret. The bones and joints of an older person are not as they once were...Care is needed. For great benefits from excercise...brisk walking is a safer choice to keep well and not hurt yourself. Common sense!

I exercised intensely at least 5 times a week, am not over-weight and I did get the COVID, but, hello, I am not dead...as is the case for 99.5%+ of the people who get COVID> sheesh.

Your stats on Covid death are wrong. 2-3 people put of 100 who contract Covid die of Covid. Another 1 in 20 who contract Covid develop Long Covid that lasts for months to forever. It’s too early to tell if or when they recover. Permanent organ damage also results and will shorten the lifespan. You do t know what it’s done to you inside so don’t be so proud.

It depends on our age and health. It Is Not 99.5% for someone in their late 70’s or 80’s like me. When they say 99.5%, that’s an Average of all ages from young children and older.

Doesn’t seem to know about the polio epidemic. Pathetically, the more physically active people were the ones who had the paralysis, and had to be in iron lungs. The ones who lay around doing nothing recovered and lived long lives. Probably no one today remembers anyway.

well polio has been eradicated from the world except for two countries.....there is no evidence that laying around helps recovery from current viruses including COVID....so what is your point exactly? exercise is one key to longevity based on studies....
