Courageous, perhaps, but pretty stupid and wholly oblivious to reality. We don't have to beat ourselves up for the deeds and omissions of others, but we certainly shouldn't ignore what others have been put through and been left to deal with in our society. Our not being directly responsible for the sins of the past does not absolve us from understanding our privilege and knowing what went on and its ongoing negative effects on our fellow citizens and fellow members of humanity. A little less flag waving and a lot more awareness, empathy and fixing is what's in order, not tmore of this baseless, pollyanna swill. Courageous, maybe at some level, but no cop is ever going to pull her or any members of her family or cirlce of friends over for a broken tail light and wind up blowing her away, nor is any cop ever going to be breaking her or any member of her family or circle of friends' door down in the middle of the night and murdering her in her bed.

Courageous? Speaking truth? Those are laughable assertions, pal. The speech is nothing but noxious right-wing talking points from a privileged and largely oblivious young woman who is smug in her self-righteousness. She doesn't have a clue how narrow, distorted and historically ignorant her views are. She seems to be an ideal candidate for political advancement in the thoroughly corrupt, cynical, mendacious and anti-democratic Republican swamp gang.

Oh yes, let's raise the phony specter of communism for those who use that word as a juvenile insult. Get a clue. Ms. Hartman is justified in criticizing BLM leadership who have apparently misused their donated funds. But let's look at the people who matter so much more. She's silent about Trump's endless grifting while president, his sickening self-interest and constant attempts to cash in on the powerful position he held. (Recall that he worked hard to extort the Ukrainian president for a sham investigation into the Bidens, another gross abuse of power by a sick demagogue.) His life has been one fraudulent or downright illegal scheme after another, often using cash provided by his father while pretending he's a brilliant business man (a con of the "Apprentice" producers) who managed to go bankrupt several times and cheated numerous contractors along the way, his tax and financial frauds only now coming into the realm of legal consequence. Add the Trump University scam and the Trump Foundation scam, and so many more. And what about his reprobate and traitor sidekick Steve Bannon, who was charged with stealing money from the southern border wall project and only got off thanks to another corrupt pardon from the then-president. You know, the unsavory snot of "deconstruct the administrative state" whose odious racism and self-serving scams are legion. Are you going to remain silent about those offenses that matter so much more, or just focus on the inflated threat of evil enemies on the left, conveniently deflecting to their misconduct when you can dredge it up?

I don't know what her major is, but I sure would like to see her running for President!!! she would get my vote in a heart beat!!!! That speech was to perfection and well enunciated!! Thank you, Julie and for your parents for raising up a model of a person!

Twenty years from now, Julie Hartman's senior speech will be lauded and quoted. The Harvard students may have heard the first contrarian thought in their lives. They will learn humility the hard way. They'll earn it.

I am Canadian and happy to be so. I have always admired our american friends and also appreciated your leadership in the world. But lately that admiration has waned for many of the reasons included in your speech Julie. You hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately there are too few young people (or any people) today who will stand up against the woke mob that wishes to undermine so much of what has made the USA a great country. If you run for office I will send you a donation !

Thank you Julie. You give us older patriots encouragement and hope. You display a lot of American pride and bravery in your inspiring speech. So sad that the attendees didn't have your courage and clap and cheer at your words

As a retired State Trooper thank you for your courage, patriotism and personal integrity. I pray that there are more like you out there but they are silent because of fear of the woke mob and this will motivate them to speak out.

It's encouraging to see a young American especially a college student who loves an appreciates our Great Nation. For those who think America is so bad please just leave and make your life better. I got emotional listening to this. You are very brave and noble. Thank you!

Thank you for a truly remarkable speech, so properly placed in history and so needed to fill the void left by the silence of those who should know better. Well done.

It is gratifying to hear someone of the younger generation, who can see and articulate the problems that face the American Dream. Will it be enough to reverse the trends that we face today? This great country must address the corruption and evil that has invaded our institutions and governments. Let us hope that there will be more people, who see these problems and will come forth with solutions. If the United States is to survive as the greatest nation in the world these destructive trends must be reversed.

Finally, a smart educated person speaks the truth. Unfortunately most of her Harvard peers and Faculty don't get it and don't seen to know or have a jaded view of what right even looks like now days.

BRAVO! As a Harvard graduate myself, and FORMER liberal, I am appreciative to see more BRAVE people speak up daily. The world is upside down right now, and people using REASON must RIGHT it.
