The majority of the evidence was on Johnny’s side, but it was definitely Amber’s attitude shift when being questioned by Camille that exposed her. She went from blubbering on the stand to snarky and aggressive, which is exactly what the jury heard in the audio recordings. That proved that her “scared little girl” persona was an absolute farce.

Except it was blatantly obvious that he never broke her nose or dragged her naked over broken glass. We know that from the photographic evidence (and lack thereof, and lack of medical evidence) and JD was there to see in person that she wasn't harmed. I lived that with a gaslighting physical and mentally abusive man for eight years and I truly thought I was losing my mind. He would tell me I said or did things that I know I didn't do but I started to believe everything he said,. Then I finally caught him red handed cheating after he convinced me I was just jealous and a nutcase and he wasn't cheating I was the problem. At least one of the juror admitted that the most damning moment of her testimony was repeatedly said she donated millions of dollars to a children's hospital, only for jury to find out that only pittance was given (~5% of the promised amount). I agree K. But one question I would love to have answered by her or whoever, what power, did she think JD had in Hollywood? He is an actor, he doesn't have any shares in Warner brothers or Disney etc. (as far as anyone knows), he certainly had no executive powers. He may have been an actor there a long time and built up good relationships with people over those years, but he was an actor who developed a few well loved characters in films. The real clincher as far as I am concerned were the secret tape recordings that Amber took where she was goading Johnny & trying to provoke him & manipulate him into saying what she wanted. Instead it revealed more about her hysterical unhinged aggressive behaviour. Johnny seemed pretty laid back & chilled. Who in their right mind would deliberately record such a think unless of course they were trying to set their partner up. No wonder people now see her as a cunning & conniving gold digger. She was only interested in Johnny for his money. That is why she was angry he had not changed his will. What a give away.

That is so true. If you consider that she knowingly taped her own behavior, and she thought it's a good behavior, how was her attitude towards JD when she didn't tape it? @kayjay7585
@kayjay7585 2 жыл бұрын
To be fair, people overlook that Amber was truly in love with him as well. She has a very fucked up view of what being in love is, but I'm fairly confident in assuming, that in terms of her feelings, that's just about as much in love that it gets for her. I have plenty experience with Cluster B personalities and her scheming (a lot of which didn't even make it into the trial) is not proof that she didn't love him. She was scheming as a means of control. And she'd only want to control him so much, because she was madly in love with him. Another thing that gets overlooked, but for the good reason of not being really relevant, is, that JD very likely has a narcissistic and a dependent personality accenuation. Accenuation means that not all criteria for classification as disorder are met, but almost enough and to a significant degree. These two personality modes are actually very complementary. The dependant nullifies the lack of empathy typically associated with narcissistic personality disorder and the narcissistic nullifies the inability of doing things by oneself, typically associated with the dependant personality disorder. This often results in very naturally charming and charismatic behavior, because they do want the people around them to feel good (dependant trait) and they want to be the one doing it the best (narcissistic trait). Sorry I got sidetracked. What I'm getting at is that JD would have avoided all of this, if he would have recognized his very strong narcissistic projections. The combination of his dependant and narcissistic accenuation makes him need his relationships to be the greatest love the world has ever seen. He projected so much on to the relationship and she did the same vice-versa (but to meet slightly different needs). Their love journal is a very strong indicator of that.

@@dparks3784 possible, but I don't think that is consistent with the evidence. Her non-cooperation with police is a huge thing inconsistent with mere gold-digging. And from a pragmatic point of view: if you want to gold-dig and also want a passionate intimate partnership, might as well hit two birds with one stone. Also, given that JD is considered physically attractive as well as very charming AND that wealth and status are also very attractive qualities a man can have, it's hard to uncouple that from a mere financial incentive if there is plenty evidence that she was in love with him.

I'm glad you're feeling better. This was interesting, but another, broader thing I think that needs to be mentioned is this. When an attorney, or a team (as in this case) makes their opening argument, and their case bears no relation to it is poison. On this point, they referred to witnesses that never testified (the other victims of Johnny), and evidence that didn't exist. The First Amendment was focused on but then ignored during the trial. It's like a bad attorney or a bad case sees the attorneys viewing the open/close as part of the evidence...when it's not. Making a case in the opening that you don't support is worse than not mentioning it at all. By the end of the trial, the jury had to have been thinking 'where were the other victims Elaine promised?' and 'Why did Ben Rottenborn lie about this being a First Amendment case?'. I remember watching the OJ trial. The prosecutor went on and on about how much evidence she had, how it was an open and shut case, etc. It raised the bar. So if she met that expectation, her case would have seemed all the stronger...like a film where you have a setup and then a payoff. There, when the prosecutors made their case, it was fairly weak. Both attorneys looked deceptive. The bragging about their case's strength made their case seem so much weaker. It was the same here.

Opening statement: " Amber will never forget the first event of abuse......." A few weeks later she will testify that her memory did in fact fail her. She would now say that the first event was actually 12 months earlier than what she had always maintained. Interesting that 8 -9 years later her memory is suddenly crystal clear and that what she previously believed to be the time line was not so.

Placating is something, that multiple people testified to. The twist is, that AH knew about that and tried to weaponize it by making people say, what she wants to hear/record. Like the "Kick" on the plane if memory serves. The Monster really only became an issue because AH tried to turn it into some wired Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde thing. Were in Johnny would become a completely different person as soon as he had a Drink. It has a very dramatic ring to it. Fitting for AHs whole spiel.

To me, it sounds like she plotted all of this at the beginning of the relationship, by giving him the nickname Monster whenever he would do something that she did not like, like when he would run away from fights, come home late from work, when socially drinking that would make him fall asleep, and other innocent things, so she can then go back to the messages and use them against him to stage him as a monster so the media and other people in the future see the word monster and be like omg he was a monster.

She did plot this in advance. There's a phone call recording where Johnny is trying to settle out of court before the divorce and she lays out all the "evidence" she's gathered over the years. She brags about it. And the reason she says she has to do this is because she's gonna get evicted from the Penthouse because of the divorce. So she has to file a DV claim to stay there. I think it stops the sale of the penthouses, but they got sold eventually. This is the same tape where she dares JD to say that he was a man and a victim.

Of course she did. JD was her meal ticket. He’s a A list celebrity and she was at best a D list celebrity. Also, he’s nearly 30 years older than she is. They tried using Johnny saying/doing anything in his power to placate her and Johnny reacting to her abuse against him but it's really clear who the "Monster" truly was in the relationship. The lengths she went to to ruin Johnny's name is unfathomable. I honestly believe she wanted him to die and play the grieving widow ( I wonder if she'd be able to she'd real tears for that role?). Everyone showering her with lots of love and support while behind closed doors throwing out all his belongings as she celebrates. She wanted everything Johnny had. In fact she used him, his name to get her places and roles that were out of her reach before. When she no longer could control Johnny she tried to blackmail him. When that didn't work she tried re kindling the relationship. When that didn't work she created a horrific hoax. Even though Johnny was vindicated in court his name will forever be tarnished. Great video! What do you think of the way her team conducted themselves?

I had not much of an opinion of the trial at the start. If anything, I had heard, here and there, that JD was a violent drunk. But during the trial, after I got home from work, I would catch up and watch the trial. Once Amber took the stand and listened to her testimony, I started leaning to Johnny Depp being more believable. I had never even heard of Amber before this trial. I am a DV Survivor like so many others. I think the jury came to the correct conclusion.

In the 2016 depo she says about the monster 'that's the part of him TO whom I was petrifying'. Then quickly rephrased to 'BY whom I was petrified'. Glad you are feeling better and back. I thought the word Gaslight was so overused these days and here when he says she called him that all the time was a way for him to see himself in a way to convince him that he is monstrous giving her justification to abuse him. I recall in one of the audio tapes he said to her during an argument that he hated how she made him feel about himself. He said he was trying to leave and he told her he was not good for her and she didn't love him and she was pleading with him to stay. Wow so sad that he did try and succumb to her way of thinking to please her and I get what he was trying to do. He felt if he went along with things and she would be calm and it would just work! Hate to see someone trying so hard to save or fix someone who is broken but they find in the end they have to get out for their own sanity.
