This is the very first Christian song I heard after I was born again on August 18, 1982. I wept with joy as the Lord ministered directly to my heart. I listen now and it never fails to return me to my “first love.”

This song is incredibly powerful if you listen to the lyrics. It's the story of Mary grieving when her brother Lazurus died. We had the privilege of hearing them live in 1978 in a small gymnasium that held a couple hundred people. Since then I bought every Harvest album I could find. I can listen to this song a hundred times and never get tire of it.

For those who are in Christ, when we die we are immediately born unto Eternal Life, The death of our body is the end of our earthy journey, but it is just the beginning of our eternal life. There is no cessation of life, death is simply the door to life eternal. That is the promise of our Savior Jesus Christ. God says blessed in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints, for that immediately translates us into life eternal. Jesus said "Flesh and blood can not inherit the Kingdom of God" That is why we have to leave our fleshly bodies with the sin nature here. So we can enter the kingdom of God. What a blessed hope!!!

Master if you've only hurried I know this wouldn't have been And Master If you'd only answered I know he wouldn't be dead Mary if you've only listened to all the words that I have said And Mary If you'd only trusted, you'd know he isn't really dead Because I Am But Master I can't help what your saying I'm so weak and I know he'll never come home And Master I know someday I will see him But my faith could never roll back his stone Mary how long will I be with that you might understand And Mary Don't you know that I can cause all these graves to rise again For I am the resurrection and the life And he who believes in me, though dead shall not die Because I am the resurrection and the life And he who believes in me, though dead shall not die Yes I am the resurrection and the life And he who believes in me, though dead shall not die Yes I am the resurrection and the life And he who believes in me, though dead shall not die Yes I am the resurrection and the life And he who believes in me, though dead shall not die Because I am I am I am Because I am

I am writing a novel about a little girl who is looking for the key to the door to the land of the dead. She wants to see her daddy again, but her daddy died in the war. And this song came on the tape I was playing and I thought it was rather appropriate.
@arrakiszexelon30442 жыл бұрын
HEY!!! I am writing you this response apparently 11-years after you wrote your original comment, so I don't even know if you are even still alive or not!!! But, in any case.....I'll give it a shot anyway!!! There is a song by a European "hard-rock" group called -- Uriah Heep -- that is about something vaguely somewhat similar to the plot line of your novel that you may be interested in hearing!!! Now.....ironically.....even though this song was written and performed by a "hard-rock" group, this particular song is a slow, beautiful and even "haunting" sounding song that tells a touching story as told by a little girl. In short.....a little girl is outside playing and digging around in the dirt and uncovers a "picture book" that was buried in the ground. She runs to her Daddy to tell him of her discovery and of what she saw on the inside of the book. The little girl tells her Daddy that she saw pictures of lots of little girls and one of them "was all grown-up like you"!!! The Daddy then proceeds to tell the little girl, "Come Away, Melinda" (also the name of the song) that girl was your "Momma" that you had before the war. The little girl then proceeds to ask her Daddy several other questions and finishes by asking, "Why can't things be like they were, before the war began"? Once you are able to hear this song, listen to the questions the little girl asks her Daddy and how he responds back to his little precious daughter.....your eyes will become teary. Here are the lyrics: Come Away, Melinda Daddy, daddy, come and look See what I have found A little ways away from here While digging in the ground Come away, Melinda Come in and close the door It's nothing, just a picture-book They had before the war Daddy, daddy, come and see Daddy, come and look Why, there's four or five Little Melinda girls Inside my picture book Come away, Melinda Come in and close the door There were lots of little girls like you Before they had the war Oh Daddy, daddy, come and see Daddy, hurry do Why, there's someone In a pretty dress She's all grown up like you Won't you tell me why Come away, Melinda Come in and close the door That someone is your Mummy You had before the war Daddy, daddy, tell me if you can Why can't things be The way they were Before the war began Come away, Melinda Come in and close the door The answer lies in yesterday Before they had the war And.....here's one of the KZbin videos of this song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZ7FqGWIh6x6mM0 I hope you do get this message and listen to this beautiful and wonderful song!!! JBW /

A very good song. But it wasn’t to Mary that He told He was the resurrection and the life, it was to Martha when she went out and questioned his prolonged arrival. Mary sat still in the house and waited for the return of her sister with the Masters beckon to meet Him near the tomb. Information had already been given to her weeks prior to this incident when she was sitting at his feet in her sisters house. Note the Spirit instructs Luke to write of Martha and Mary, though sisters, Martha was the dominant of the household and Mary being considered as the lesser of the two. A certain woman “named Martha” and she had a sister “called Mary”

Joel, you are 100% right about this; however, this song is not referring to the Mary who was the mother of Jesus. This is the story of Jesus' friends Mary and Martha, who were the two sisters of his friend Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead. You can read the whole thing in the 11th chapter of the book of John. www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+11&version=NIV There is one thing about this song, though--- it wasn't Mary with whom Jesus had this conversation--- it was her sister Martha, as you'll see when you read this Scripture. Just one of those interesting bits of information most would not notice. He did speak with Mary after having this conversation with her sister Martha, but the Bible records only a few words of what she said. I'm guessing the song writer had heard this narrative many times and wrote the song based on a slightly faulty memory of it, for he surely couldn't have missed who said what if he had gone back and read it while composing the lyrics. :)
@Scratch_the_itch6 жыл бұрын
Polly, Thank you so much for your reply. I stand corrected. This makes much more sense. Evangelical music can be a little sloppy with scripture, in this case I just didn't look into it as much as I should have. Good news, because I really love this song and now it won't bother me. God bless!
