Thank you so much, oregano has literally consumed my backyard, I probably have enough to get 25-30 cups of dried herbs. I’m not sure what variety I have but I do know that I buy the Italian kind before I started drying it.
@dancurry76944 жыл бұрын
The variety in the video is Greek oregano, which is generally more aggressive and has a spicier taste than the Italian variety. For my family, I generally try to keep it in a 2-3 feet square and it provides way more than what we use in a year. Thanks for watching!

Hello :) I'm Danielle. I'm a new sub here. I looked up how to harvest and dry oregano and found you. SO glad I did. I just learn better from watching rather than reading. So sad how many views you have and such few subs but I am here and a fan and I hope you're still making content.

Would like to see how you handle the dried oregano after drying. Do you remove the leaves? Grind up? Do you keep it in bundles until use?
@dancurry76947 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Bugg I remove the leaves from the stem. I have another video on preparing the dried oregano that I have not uploaded yet, but I will let you know as soon as I do.

My wife complains that her oregano turns black after she washes it. Any idea what's causing that reaction?? She uses tap water that is considered among the best water in the country. From Hetch Hetchy in Northern California.
@dancurry76942 жыл бұрын
Was your water significantly colder than room temperature when you rinsed with it?
@pappabob292 жыл бұрын
@@dancurry7694 Hi Dan. Not sure (my wife did the rinsing) but very likely so. Is that an issue??
@dancurry76942 жыл бұрын
It depends on how hot the plants were when you brought them in. Basil will definitely have that problem. If it’s almost full leaves turning black I’d say it’s water temp or water pressure. If it’s spots on the leaves it could be insect or fungus. I’d try filling a bowl or sink with some room temp water and gently rinse it in small batches to see if that helps.

Nice 👍🏻, my oregano leaves don’t have smell. What might be the reason. Could you please help me out.

Are you referring to the fresh plant, or to previously dried herb?

Which variety has white flowers and which has purple? I have 2 different kinds.
@dancurry76942 жыл бұрын
www.bhg.com/gardening/plant-dictionary/herb/oregano/ Generally your Greek oregano will flower purple. Some Italian cultivars will bloom white, but I would double check it with an app like PlantSnap to make sure you don’t have marjoram by mistake (although I’m not sure you could accurately call planting marjoram a mistake rather than “unexpected blessing”)

I don't know where you are , but 2½ weeks of drying doesn't sound a lot of time to me. Four to five weeks makes much more sense. Melbourne, South-east Australia.
@danielcreviston98676 жыл бұрын
So when they're dry, do you then just grind up the leaves, or the stalks as well?
@dancurry76946 жыл бұрын
When you grind them you expose more of it to oxygen and it will not keep as long. Try to keep the leaves as intact as possible until just before use. I personally don’t keep the stalks, but there is nothing more than personal preference.

Do you leave indoors or out?

Outdoors. In the Midwest it comes back after going dormant for the winter. I find that a 2 ft square bed produces a years supply for a family of 5.
