We harvest our annual garlic and pepper crop from the garden before winter hits. Homemade pita pockets stuffed with moose and topped with fresh ingredients cooked over a campfire makes for the perfect fall meal at the cabin.
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀

Delicious looking dinner, as usual. Ever thought of putting together a cookbook - you could do a journal of meals for one year and then organize it into a seasonal cookbook of sorts, showing the food before you process it and then the gorgeous finished dish.

Fresh Blueberry Mojitos PREP 5minsTOTAL 5mins Blueberry mojitos are simple to make and only require a few simple, fresh ingredients. If you cannot find fresh, sweet blueberries, thawed frozen berries work as a substitute. Makes 1 drink YOU WILL NEED 8 blueberries (fresh or frozen and thawed), plus more for serving 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) fresh squeezed lime juice 2 teaspoons sugar 8 fresh mint leaves, plus more for serving 1/4 cup (2 ounces) white rum Ice 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) club soda Lime slice for serving

I cook most of the time - for my GF and I, and it's always that way. When she cooks, she does the same for me. And anyone else we happen to be feeding with that meal. Which is to say, anyone in the house at the time is offered a plate - even if they're a roommates friend and we don't know them. It's all about who, and what, is important to you. Nothing is more important than the people you love and care about.

I live 2 blocks from north and south bound HWY 99 in Bakersfield California. This time of year farmers up and down California are harvesting onions and garlic among every thing else. At night the air is cooler and still. The 18 wheelers are transporting onion and garlic all night and we can smell the fresh garlic and onions. It smells so good. Of course truck loads of peaches, oranges, lemons, limes even tomatoes buy the truck load can have wonderful aroma. Always enjoy your channel. Thank you.

Have you ever pickled red onions, or any onion, for that matter? I'm 59, and had pickled red onions for the first time, on a smoked turkey sandwich. I can't believe what I've been missing all these years! I immediately went to KZbin to see how they're made, and couldn't believe how easy it is! That's my next thing to make! Thanks so much for sharing your lives with us, and inspiring us all to do a little more, to be self-sustaining!

Lisa, don’t wait, make some refrigerator pickled onions in the meantime! Even just a pint! Also, any cucumber that’s pickled with onion never has enough to the ratio in my opinion, so when the pickles are nearly gone I chuck a bunch of onion in the brine that’s left and stick it in the fridge for a couple days. I call them LAZY PICKLES and it’s a great way to get extra mileage out of your ingredients.

On any of your crops, keep rotating the locations where you plant them, and I find that using egg shells in the soil is a natural way to add calcium - especially on your tomato plants. Peppers can benefit from this egg shell practice as well. Just don't use any Everglades seasoning in the soil (humor). Save that for the MEAT....OOORAH! Finally, your meal was impressive, and I so enjoy seeing the two of you enjoy each other's company...very refreshing. You two are just like my wife and I. If the world could all be like that, we would have no problems....or maybe just minor ones! ;)

Don't forget that peppers are perennials. Grow them in buckets and take them in when it gets cold. Rule of thumb: dry heat in the air, half the moisture of tomatoes in the soil. They're rotting because when you over watered... They stayed to wet because of the humidity trapped in the green house. (I've done this a few times) Probably in the roots too. That would stunt the growth and keep the nutrients from getting taken up. You guys have really done so well!! I'll tell you about a guy here in Ohio that got bananas. BANANAS!! He started them under plastic in the spring so they could get a bit more of a growing season... Maybe you can do that with your corn! Like a low cold frame, but the plastic can cover larger areas. Anyway...I loved watching your video. 😁

World's shakiest table? Erm, free standing dead trees, sawmill, c'mon, you know you want to! LOL ;o) At least put the logs aside, so you can get to the mill with them, because getting to them next year will see you having to be way too patient with them drying than is good for anyone! Then, since you will have access to the mill quite a bit before you have access to the dead standing, you will have all you need to have the world's prettiest heavy duty table ahead of this time next year. It would support plenty of salmon processing too. 6x6 legs, sorry getting carried away here LOL ;o) Thanks for this fun video - have a good week, and be well.

Best advice I can give you on the peppers is to find a different place to grow them, and avoid growing any in the high tunnel for at least 2 years, just in case it's something that's gotten into the soil. If it is, it won't go away if you regrow peppers in that same location the next year. Even if it's "just moisture," there's something that's now attacking those peppers, and you need to starve it out. Yes, it's a p.i.t.a., but by giving the high tunnel a minimum 2 year break from anything in that species, it'll help prevent repeated infections & cut off any increasing of the presence of whatever-it-is. Tempting as it is, if you grow the peppers in the high tunnel again (even in a neighboring row "instead"), it'll just give the infection a chance to grow as well, and get thoroughly set into the tunnel, making it near-impossible to get out without taking 3 or more years.

I had similar issues but just changed setup and that fixed it for me. I had my plants too close together and too much moisture, spaced farther apart and added better air circulation no more rot. I think its just the high moisture allowing certain strains of mold/mildew to get a foothold. But moving the peppers out will certainly avoid the possibility of the disease being in the soil. I keep my peppers in a drier location and they do better than with the thirsty crops anyway.

They cannot readily move their high tunnel, do not have the option to set up another. Yes they have a fungus issue with the soil, but it can be remediated in situ. My family and I have grown under cover in WA and Alaska for 100 and 40 years respectively. Yes it would be easier to rotate crops but we know enough about soul microbiomes now to not be as reliant on the practice.

Hey nice job ! A little tip I’ve found with the labeling of my plants. I hv my grandkids help paint rocks and take a “staples” marker (sharpie does not last) it has lasted for multiple years 😉. I’m in zone 4 and we also get deep freezes to upper 90*. Happy growing 👩🏻‍🌾👨🏼‍🌾

Add egg shells to your plants (in the hole) to help with blossom end rot....some plants need a lot of calcium....tomatoes and peppers loves egg shells.

I love how your pets hang with you guys. I don't your cat's name but once he realized that his head was not going to be scratched, he had better things to do with his time. I have loved all of the cats that I have been lucky to serve as their slave, but definitely, the three males over the five females were my favorite. There is just something about the calmness of a neutered male cat that brought peace to my life.

From the looks of the corn silk they may have needed a little more time on the stalk. Grandma always waited until the silk was pretty much brown and a little more dried out.

I hate to tell you, but giving corn cobs to dogs is not a great idea. Too many times the cob pieces don’t break down and end up stuck in the digestive system and cause gastrointestinal blockage. The dogs may need emergency surgery if they can’t pass the blockage. Look it up. Looks like a good harvest, like others I was drooling looking at those peas and watching your cooking. Ariel makes great breads! Being gluten-free I miss all those yummy breads. Here in NH the season is fast ending, the garden really coming to an end. Harvesting the garlic made me realize I needed to order mine to plant next month!
