Great haul. May I make a suggestion? After forking out potatoes and radishes put in rows of carrots and cover with cardboard for a week. It still acts as a cover crop but with the recently turned soil yoi should get some decent side carrots. The best is that if they aren't a good size or flavor the animals will love them.

My favorite thing to harvest is potatoes of any kind. It's like A treasure hunt. My favorite corn to husk is glass gem. A surprise of colors in every ear. With that horseradish removal, will it grow back? SUCH an impressive harvest.

According to somebody's grandma, I forget who, potatoes can stay in the ground until it freezes. If you can keep the ground they're in from freezing in winter, THAT'S how you "store" potatoes.

What a wonderful potato and horseradish harvest! And yes, when you're doing your soil right, so many earthworms show up for the party that there's one more layer to that permaculture princilple to help rectify any deficiencies in the soil. We've done so many experiments on our tiny homestead garden this year, and are learning so very much, I am excited to try some more new things this season and the next! When we stop learning and growing, we start stagnating and dying so I'm always game to learn new stuff! Thank you for sharing today!

@vonmajor3 ай бұрын
Pretty much do the same. Have access to large round bales for mulch. Breaks down for a rich topsoil over my sticky and rocky clay soil. Plus the whole range of nutrients harvested by that hay, the grasses,broadleaves are now delivered to your garden.

And the worms won't eat your potatoes. So, if you live where the ground don't freeze, you can simply leave your potatoes all winter as long as they're covered and don't turn green, they're edible and you can just dig up what you need when you need it, and leave the rest. they're like tulip bulbs. They don't die. They go dormant.

@@PermaPasturesFarm21 Somebody else talked about how her aunt or grandma or somebody cut their potato peelings kinda thick and kept them in a bag in the fridge and then simply planted THOSE after the ground thawed during the depression...don't know anyone who has tried that but the other, leaving them in the ground, has worked for several people which is just like storing them in a dirt root cellar. I haven't done it as I don't grow potatoes but several others who live where the ground doesn't freeze are doing it and having year round potatoes because they leave some to grow. One guy said he even planted something on top of them for winter, don't remember what. But I didn't know that guy so whether he actually did that or not, who knows? I suppose one COULD do that...don't see why not. Depending on what one planted.

I will say horseradish doesn't go with potatoes like PB and jelly. I was at an NRA auction once and they put the horseradish next to the baked potatoes so I slathered it on like it was Sour Cream. Yep. Wrong move. Lol

blessing is be lessing you're telling people to be less! 'take care' you're telling people to take care like they wouldn't if you didn't tell them to 'take care' 'drive safe' Why wouldn't you drive safe ... because someone didn't tell you? What if you didn't get a memo about some law -- can they stop you and fine you or throw you in jail? The only laws man has to live by are the Laws of Nature and Nature's God I experimented with growing potatoes in buckets but they got scorched in the sun and I didn't water often enough forgetting that potted plants need to be watered more often. I harvested them a couple days ago but they were small potatoes ... I should have moved them sooner. I'm not too fond of bucket potatoes I think anything planted right in the ground is always better. I have been opening more space in the garden so I won't be planting potatoes in pots again Thank you for video!!!
