Nantucket & Martha's Vineyard Bay Scallops can be found online for as high as $62 a pound. You can find Bay Scallops at the grocery store for as cheap as $7.99 a pound. What's the difference and is it actually worth it to spend the extra money?

Isn’t one of the main problems with dredging that it destroys the vegetation? Where I live, the sea floors are empty bar crustaceans who thrives. All the big fish is gone (due to trawling) but bottom trawling makes sure there’s no vegetation to begin with.

@@DaRealPhillyJawn did you see all the mounds of eel grass that came out of the dredges? They dump it back and it gets carried away with the tides and dies. Dredging does tremendous damage, even if it's on a lesser scale than huge commercial vessels

You won't be disappointed! Local >>> Imported seafood in nearly all cases. Weirdly enough there are some instances in which imported is better, but it is very specific to the species and how they are handled. 9.5/10 you'll get a better experience with seafood if you buy local and buy as close to direct as you can from fishermen

@fancykarlmarx Yeah, I read plenty. I just have enough cognitive thinking that I don't immediately believe every single thing that pops up on my screen. The old wives tale btw, is that scallops are just circular cut stingray meat. But, how dumb do people have to be? Go out and get a fresh scallop yourself, Florida for instance has TONS OF SCALLOPS, and I guarantee once you see a raw, fresh scallop that you shucked yourself, you'll realize why I'm telling you it's a MYTH that fish/stingray is sold as scallops lmfao. Would you fall for it if someone tried to sell you a pork chop as a ribeye steak? Its really like some of these people have never seen a raw protein, to think FISH could pass off as a scallop. Do scallops get flaky as they cook like fish does? NO. Does fish even look the same as scallop? Again NO lol.

with dredging especially on a smaller scale like this the thing im worried about isn't the bycatch that can be released on a small or big scale, its the fact that dredging disturbs the seafloor and destroys structures on the bottom, can u confirm or deny if this is the case for small scale things...bc im pretty sure its a srs concern for the large scale dredge operations

Although, paid hefty at the nice restaurants in Chicago and NYC, so, possibly they were better. ?? I wish I could try fresh Bay Scollops! My wife does want us to visit Boston within a year or two so I’ll make it a point to find fresh caught scallops and also fresh crab and lobster as well.

No damage?? These 'weeds' used to be ecosystems on the seafloor in which marine organisms can spawn and hide. Aquatic plants cleaning the water and providing oxygen ... Scallop fishermen are basically dinosaurs when you know how efficient and clean you can culture different species of scallops.

This entire video is such a fail. Dredging is bad for the ecosystem. You can see the eel grass being pulled in with the scallops. Also the bias in that taste test was so obvious. I get that you partnered with the folks in the video and you want to support them, but there's a way to do that without pretending that the store bought scallops were inedible. Also, you claim that you've never bought scallops from a grocery store and cooked them yourself. This is quickly followed by your wife saying that she thinks you cooked them longer than you usually do. So you either only buy scallops fresh off the boat, or you're lying about never having bought scallops at the grocery store. Both of these are so incredibly unlikely.
