So funny how all the woodworking youtubers are switching from Harvey dust collectors to Oneida. They all seemed to get Harvey DC's around the same time, and late last year/early this year they all switch to Oneida. And all seem to have the same excuse - 'There's nothing wrong with the Harvey, I just wanted to revamp the space' or something similar. Just a PSA to not lean on reviews of influencers and do your own research as to what machines to buy. To the rest of us, these are HUGE investments. And even the ones that seem like honest reviews are almost always pushing a product for a sponsor.

While I do agree with you partly, I think it’s important to follow people you trust. As I stated in the video, I paid for both of these machines. I could have easily approached Oneida and got one for free but I am at the point now that I would rather buy tools and say anything I want about them and not have any obligations for social media. Even when I do get tools for free, I make it very clear to the brand that “if” I do a video about it, I will say whatever I feel. If they have an issue with that, then I either don’t take the tool, or I just buy it myself. If you don’t trust or believe the person you’re watching, then you shouldn’t watch them. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

@@bentswoodworking I wasn't trying to say specifically that you were doing anything wrong, although I did comment on your video so I get it. Just putting it out there to pay attention to trends. I'm not aware of how the contracts work between influencers and the companies that sponsor them - it seems that even if someone claims to have purchased the item there is often still a relationship at play. I do love your content, am a subscriber, and really appreciate the videos you put out. Especially ones related to builds and tips/tricks. I just take ANY recommendation on social media with a salt lick after a few big purchases being influenced by these type of posts, only to be disappointed after the fact. Totally agree with your comment about trust, although that's another one that is tough to determine as 99.9% of us only know you guys/gals through carefully edited videos. I wish I had done some more research and possibly gone with an Oneida instead of my Laguna PIII which is absurdly large and absolutely deafening in my small shop.

@ I didn’t take your comment negatively. If I did, I wouldn’t have even answered. But, I do think it’s important to have dialogue about topics like these. I am with you, which is why I work so hard to maintain the trust of my audience. However, it is very difficult to do because you’re dead on with the fact that there are many creators that are happy to share things on social media that are given to them. Both Harvey and Oneida are big in providing tools for promotion, along with many others. I totally get it cause it is a very effective way for brands to build recognition and interest. Unfortunately I think it ends up having a negative effect in the long run.

Even if influencers say that they "pay", they are paying a VERY reduced price. Therefore, the review is still highly influenced. I need to hear them say " I paid full price and I am not sponsored by them in any way"

Another great video Jason! I really enjoy watching your channel. I too have a G700 but it’s in a spot where I have perfect access to the intake as well as the exhaust ports for cleaning. i’m going to keep loving it until I don’t.

I too was shocked at how quiet the V3000 is! Just powered it up yesterday, and was delighted.

I don't have the extra silencer on top of the filter on my v-system 3000, and I can tell how much of a difference that thing makes. Mine is LOUD.

Definitely makes a big difference

I too had the g700 in fact your review was one of the reasons I purchased the unit. Once I moved into my new shop I decided it was to to get rid of it upgraded to the Clearview EF5. I bought the filter shaker as well as the silencer and it was the best move I ever made. The biggest hangup for me about using the G700 in the new shop was the Dust Bin size. I absolutely hated emptying that tiny bin every 20 minutes when milling wood at the planner and jointer. Harvey advertises a 32 gallon bin but in reality it would shut off with between 22 and 26 gallons of dust and chips depending on the operation you were doing.
@bentswoodworking6 сағат бұрын
Yeah it can be frustrating but what I did like is it’s small and easier to manage the bags. Trade offs to everything I suppose.
@warrensmith29027 сағат бұрын
Great video. Yes, always determine your needs. Example, I don't do anything that requires big chips. My biggest hose is 2.25, and I have 3 vac's with automatic switches to turn them on. Only one vac has a chip separator on it. I also have a 20" fan with a filter on it that turn on when the lights in that section of the shop go on. Amazing how much dust it collects. Even small shops can have great reasonably priced dust collection that works automatically.

That’s awesome, I love hearing about how people set up their dust collection systems!

I just built a new shop and chose the Oneida for a few reasons. First is that the Harvey has electronics. The Oneida has a motor and that’s it. If it fails, I can easily replace it with a locally sourced motor (Grainger). The Oneida will last me for 50 years, or until I’m dead. The capacity of the Oneida far exceeds the Harvey. I’ve go a 50 gallon drum on wheels. I can buy another 50 gallon drum if I want, or 10 if I want. The Harvey has a smaller proprietary bucket. The placement of the inlet and filters means the Harvey takes up far more space than the Oneida. The footprint of the unit is small on paper, but to access the filters and pipe the inlet takes up far more space than the Oneida.
@bentswoodworking6 сағат бұрын
I agree it takes up a larger footprint on the floor, but I loved the ability to gain the space above it.

I have a V-3000, but only with a 35 gallon drum. The drum liner insert is so worth it. If I had a taller ceiling I would want to get a 55 gallon drum, because the planer can definitely fill it very quickly. Moving that many CFM of air is definitely louder than the motor. I would be concerned with blocking the electrical panel in your shop, it doesn't look like you have the required 36" clearance.

If Harvey can incorporate the design changes in the new G800 pro into a smaller form factor like the G700 they'd have a winner. Thanks for the great videos.

G800 looks really nice. Still small dust bins though unfortunately

Can't beat Oneida for customer support. My shop is not large enough to warrant the V3000 so I opted for a Supercell. Been using it for years now and it has been just excellent.

I have had a Clearvue 1800 max since 08 and was perfect in a shed I built on to my 850 sq ft shop, we moved to a sub division and shop is now 300 sq ft 3 rd bay and it now sits in a closet I built on the other side of the wall with double 5/8 drywall lining the closet with 33 gal can. DB is 76 and no complaints. I looked at downsizing but the foot print of the dust collector wouldn't change . The g700 footprint is larger than I wanted to give up. I also downsized my duct that comes down off main trunk to 4" sewer and drain from the previous 6" Nordfab and have to keep 2 gates open. The only good thing of a smaller shop is there is no more center saw center with build table that was great to build on but every time I needed something it was a long walk around it to get what I wanted. The grit automation looks great but in my small shop all tools are on wheels and I use flex from the wall mounted gates to the machines with the Izzy twist lock connectors. I have used key fob remote for cyclone on /off since 2008, it was a diy kit at the time.

Like I mentioned on IG, I made the same move this past year. The G700 was certainly capable, but not sufficient for the job via the duct work network in my new shop building. I intended for the G700 to be a temporary solution in a sense but tried to make it work. The jointer/thicknesser didn't agree. :)

Felder and Powermatic have a filter auto cleaning feature that sounds great to me and that Oneida is missing. What do you think of it?
@JB-mo4gp7 сағат бұрын
Great video. How do you accelerate the ramp up speed for the Harvey?
@alanr7457 сағат бұрын
Typically, it requires reading the VFD manual to know which setting is for ramping the motor up/down. From there, adjusting the time setting is just the push of a button/buttons or turning of a knob if the VFD offers that. In-short, just read your VFD manual and see what it can do.
@bentswoodworking6 сағат бұрын
Well all the newer G700s have a different VFD and I’m not sure how that particular one is done. I had a very early model G700

All y'all have 10ft ceiling or taller in your shop? Seems the G700 is great for a tinkerer that doesn't fill 20Gallons of dust/debris. I mean, I like Oneida and it works great for shopvac use. Having 55gallon waste means a practical way to empty- have another empty drum to swap in. But the Oneida looks exposed. Maybe a nice enclosure for sound or punch hole through wall and put it outside in a shed or outside closet?
@atomictyler4 сағат бұрын
that's my least favorite thing about the G700, and that the filters will get clogged and are a real pain in the butt to unclog. I have garage doors on the front wall and then a door on the back wall. it leaves me with one spot to put the dust collector. even in that one spot it's still in the way. I have the main inlet going up at a 45 and it's taking up the one free wall I have.
@Sparky65473 сағат бұрын
Electrical panels require 3' of clearance in front of them.
@ADR-x4d2 сағат бұрын
So lets get this straight. You wanted to added a bit more drawer space on one wall and you thought lets replace the entire dust collector. Looks like you are looking for reasons just to spend money. A fool and their money...

@bentswoodworking Just a heads up/correction, the G800Pro inlet is straight up or out the top right side, no low inlet. I have been deciding between the gorilla pro and the G800pro for a new shop. Gorilla pro is essentially unlimited power for future growth but they are so loud, Harvey makes such quiet stuff but the power always seems to be a little lacking. Decisions decisions. Too bad Felder doesn't offer a good hobby/small shop sized collector.

i found a used 2010 oneida v3000 on marketplace. widow selling her late husbands equipment. it was in mint condition. he made model cars in a garage so it never seen a lot of use. incredible machine in my 500sq/ft production carpentry shop. the only way i would do away with it is if i went to a bigger oneida system
