Harvey, setting up the rip fence.
In this video I'll go through setting up my RIP fence parallel to the miter slot. I use my Woodpeckers saw gauge to set the fence up. Old school you want a max of 1/64" difference from the front to the rear. Personally I like a minimum of 3 thousands to 6 thousands. If your setting up your RIP fence I just might help, or not, any case this is set perfect. Now I can get busy setting up my jigs and finally get out some projects.

Two minutes into your video and I'm already like, "Damn, Harvey is lucky to have this dude providing the info on KZbin that they most certainly did not cover in their installation and owner's manual!" Your attention to the details is exactly what is lacking from the supplied booklet, and I get that very few manufacturers are willing or even capable of sharing all the ins and outs of their products, so thank you for this upload. My fine tuning of the newly arrived Harvey 36 has been made so much more pleasurable and satisfying thanks to your efforts and generosity. Well done, and subscribed!

I was setting my table saw today and I agree with all your details that you covered in your video about the fence very well explained and yes I totally agreed with you on that bad design of the fence. I was expecting better quality from a $3000 machine. I actually ended up adapting a T jig that fits snugly in order to keep the aluminum piece in place and relocate one of the knobs so that is locked evenly. I was not happy with that at all with so much play at the end of the rail that eventually will drop since there is no way to tight it up enough to keep it in place. I will notify Harvey about this and see if they offer some kind of solution for others. Thanks for the effort and time to make this videos that helps to make this better. May God bless you.

I'm going to talk about the saw and just tell them of what I have come across. The more we speak up hopefully they hear and upgrade the tool. Thank you again Hector Bless you sir and thanks for viewing.

@@TheShackHome I got it all put together and nearly everything is dialed in from the factory. The one disappointment is the blade being a 1/16+ out of square with the T-tracks. Wish I had caught it before mounting the wings and fence. Have any good tips on adjusting that? I know I have to loosen the 4 cap bolts to the table, but worried about how to go about making the fine adjustment

I'm going to agree with the posts complimenting you for the videos covering the detail setup of the Harvey saw, and with the posts criticizing the manual that came with the saw. For a company trumpeting their saw's quality and charging the prices they charge you'd expect that the manual would comport with that, but it doesn't, not by a long shot. I tried your "two business card" setup for the height of the removable fence off the table, but no matter high tight I cinch those posts down the far side of the fence droops. Perhaps that tightening bar on my saw isn't entirely parallel with the main fence mechanism. So I resort to trail and error to get the clearance on both ends of the removable fence even.

When following your instructions, and I'm having a really hard time. Bottom of the rip fence is zeroed out and after adjustments I'm getting a bit of a wave effect. I'm using a new a similar dial indicator from A-line-it. And the middle of the fence is about .01" where as the top of the fence is in the ideal .003". Any thoughts on what's causing this? I tested a cut, and I am able to see the noticable difference in my cut riding along the rip fence where the cuts are a little concave.
@TheShackHome
@TheShackHome Жыл бұрын
Sher O'Deen I had to readjust my fence. I started to notice that when the material was exiting the blade it would catch a little on the blade and actuall leav a little burn on it. didn;t have the riving knife installed. So I started to adjust the fence so upon exiting the blade it would have more relief. I ened up going i think 20 tousand off so the rip fence was angled away from the blade at the exit end which allowed for enough relief that it stopped catching and even stopped causing a little burn on my material. Give irt some relief and see what happens.

Thank you for your videos. I’m awaiting my 110-36. I imagine changing the blade i.e. thin kerf vs regular, or even different brands will throw off the fence measurement via the tape a bit.
@TheShackHome
@TheShackHome 2 жыл бұрын
Chris generally speaking, all blades are an 1/8” in width. they all vary somewhat to get exact measurement use calipers. Thin kerf are only slightly thinner about a 1/32 or so. I believe infinity make a 1/16” thin keyed blade. Generally speaking your measurement should be close just remember if you choose to use a thin nerf blade you will just have to compensate for the difference on your measurements. A thin kerf blade I would only suggest using on very expensive wood or in certain circumstances it’s not something you want to use every day

@TheShackHome
@TheShackHome 2 жыл бұрын
@@christopherungaro8454 it will get by but I would highly suggest upgrading to a quality carbide tip blade you can get 15 + sharping's out of. it will pay for itself after the 2nd sharping. I like Ridge Carbide tool blades but if you plan on cutting 8/4 stock often then you should invest in a quality 24 tooth blade. 40 tooth is a good general all purpose but will burn thick stock you need a fewer tooth blade for thicker stock. I'm thinkin of putting out a video on this soon just to help people out. there is a weird calculation to this theory but it works.

You are not anal. You set things up with a very high level of accuracy which is how it should be. It pays to be on the perfectionist side of things during setup. It makes using the saw safer, easier to use and makes for very accurate cuts.

Thanks for the great vid. My first question is, the high and low measuring window. Does it have to be the right window as low and the left window as high? I think mine came as the other way around and even the instruction manual has it as the other way around and when i put my high window to zero then switch the fence to a low fence i cant get the low fence window on zero. It seems like such a no brainer but i cant get it.
@TheShackHome
@TheShackHome 2 жыл бұрын
korrupt4 sorry for late reply been a bit busy. I did mine the way I did because I have an Incra fence system that just arrived for it. so wasn't going to keep the Harvey system on very long and just needed a single reference point. If your keeping the Harvey fence Id set the H to 0 so the L should be very close. If you flip the fence soo the High side is flat set the measure to Zero when the saw blade just kisses the fence. When you flip the fence up the low should read very close. If it make more sence to you , I might of done this, reverse the letters so when the higher part is flat thats the low position and when its flipped up that the high position then do so. Whatever is easier for you. I also put a piece of tap over the other window so I never read off the wrong window. That's just another reason for me to make a mistake.

The paper manual is wrong. Check the electronic manual as It has been updated. The lower fence knob should be installed on the left, upper fence knob on the right. My paper manual was wrong, so I called Harvey to confirm this knob arrangement.

Basic question...what is the NEMA rating of the plug that came with your saw? I'm guessing either 6-20P or 6-30P. The instructions for this saw says to use a 30A breaker so I am guessing it comes with the 6-30P. I order the 36" version of this saw and I need to make sure I rewire my shop correctly right now as I do not get the saw for a few more weeks.

MixingGBP yes I had to us a 20' extension with 20 Amp 250-Volt NEMA 6-20P 3-Prong Industrial Grade Have Duty Plug for the ends I only plan on staying here a few more months so didn't want to run another line. It works great. The diagram in owners manual simply states 6-20 plug the sticker on the saw reads 230v, 60Hz, 1-Ph. Draw amp 16A
@MixingGBP
@MixingGBP 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheShackHome Thanks for the reply. I am having an L6-30 on a drop cord spool from my ceiling and L6-20 installed in my shop wall so it can cover my Harvey table saw and Harvey band saw when they arrive in a few weeks. I see in the Harvey table saw manual that the recommendation for the table saw is a 30 amp breaker, so I am a little confused as to why the table saw doesn't come with a 6-30 plug. The concern for me would be that the motor would draw current close to the 80% limit of a 20 amp service which would put you right at 16 amps. I realize this would be only at max draw conditions, which is why a 20 amp service would likely work just fine 99.9% of the time. The 80% percent breaker limit was told to me by a few electricians I talked to and also read that in some electricians forums. Hopefully the way I wrote this is understandable.
