JessEm stock guides on High-Low RIP fence.
Yes the JessEm stock guides will fit on your Harvey High-Low RIP fence. You will need to add a spacer to clear the hi point of the fence but it can be done. Or if you like this method for a more flexible system that's removeable then do as I did in the video. Below are links to everything in this video. Grab yourself a set of JessEm stock guides for your Harvey RIP fence and enjoy a more reliable safety work experience.

Yesterday I was looking for something like this, the Harvey/JessEm mash-up and this was spot on what I wanted to see. Also, great explanation/demonstration of how the guides pull the wood into the fence. I'm going to show my wife this video so I can get one sooner rather than later.

Hey I'm so glad I found your video. I'm one of the people that call Jessem about 2 months ago and they didn't think it would work on a Hi-Lo fence, I'm glad to see that it will

You won't regret. The Jessem stock guides are awesome! I have two table saw and have the stock guides installed like in this video. I can swap it to either TS in less then 10 seconds.

If you want to use it in the low fence position and use the T Track all you have to do is drill out two holes in the center of the Jessum track on each end of its track and bolt it on using t-track nuts. I do this on a Skil-saw job site saw that has a fence that has a t-track running on top the length of the fence. The guides work great. I

Many thanks for this video! I was thinking about buying a table saw with a high-low fence and one of my biggest questions was wether the JessEm stock guides would work! It's great to know there's an easy option for making them work when the fence is in the "high" position, which is probably where I'd have it 99% of the time.

One could fabricate a 3/4” thick magnet mounting area on the ends of a thinner board that if they were interested in mounting the stock guide lower and closer to the top of the fence. This approach would mount the magnets as designed while allowing for the bottom of the guide to be say 1/2” closure to the table top is one used a 1/4” thick board to mount the stock guide.

Did you think of the Compass RG-1/RG2 that Harvey offers ? Just a thought and would like a comparison. So if anyone knows of someone that has compared the two please reply.

Can I make a suggestion? Too bad I am going to anyway… Since the guides mount to the top of the fence and push down on stock they conversely lift up on the fence. So that back guide lifts the fence up off the table as it pushes down on the stock. So what I did (wish I could attach a picture, but don’t see that I can) is from the local hardware store I got a something that is basically a bolt with a flattened 90 degree on it. I drilled out a hole on the back end of the fence and put that 90 degree so it just hooks under the back rail with about 1/16 clearance. That way the fence can only lift 1/16 of an inch before that 90 catches the back rail. Easy and effective.

Hi Rick. Love your videos- really helped me out w/my new Harvey Alpha. Can you give me the dimension of the wood base you used for the roller guide? I just ordered mine and want to build the base in the meantime. Thanks- Dave.

FFC it should just fit on the fence but here are my dement ions L36" x W2-1/2" H.762". The thickness i used my planer to get just a little thinner than the Magwitch so they would have solid contact with the fence surface. You could use 3/4" stock and just shim the Magwitch's till its just proud of the stock also.

Thank you, I'm looking to get the Alpha series table saw, do you recommend the 36" or the 52" for general purposes? I plan to get the router table extension as well. I'm leaning towards 36"
@TheShackHome
@TheShackHome Жыл бұрын
Allen the 36"will do 99% of all work. If you have a need to cut full sheets of plywood then the 52" would be better. My step father had a family cabinet shop and I was taught to cut full sheet on the table saw not on the ground with a track saw so I'm use to a full table saw. Just me. when I move and have a shop built I'll need the capability to cut sheet goods down as I build cabinets for that shop.

I can really only see the benefit of using these if you are using a push stick. I don't see the benefit if you are using a Microjig Gripper.

An easy mod for the low position could be as simple as drilling out an extra hole on each end of the mounting board for T bolts. Just pop them in and use the T track on the fence in the low position. Should be enough real estate on the board for that. Might have to remove the mag switches to have room for palm handles, but that's not a big deal. Probably don't really even need to screw the mag switches in, so they can just pop out as needed.

Nice video. The Magswitch use is perfect, but while they provide excellent downward force keeping the rail from lifting off the fence, they may slip side to side under much lighter pressure. I've seen some videos of how the Magswitch tends to slide. It may be best to add some anti-slip material under the entire rail you made to keep it from doing so on your high-low fence since it does not sit down in a channel like some fences allow. Another option for you is to make the wood rail wider so it butts up against the backside of the fence's taller portion to help keep it in place. Suggestion for the High-low fence in low mode of operation... leave the Jessem on the wood rail, but make it just a bit longer to accept two removable T-bolts & knobs so you can fasten it to the track on the fence. Takes more effort to move back and forth between fence modes, but should work.

I have mine installed with the 95lbs magnets and use em for over 2 years. They never slip, however I recommend using an outfeed table so the magnets never pop off the fence.

I agree with Marcus, been using the mag switches and as long as you do not have any decals on the Jet Fence they work perfectly.

All you need to do is add somewhere to attach the existing piece of wood that your mag switches are mounted to… I know that there is two sets of holes at each attachment point on the supplied T-track, one section for screws and another for bolts! So all you would need to do is drill out 2-3 of the holes that are larger for 1/4-20 bolts, throw some T-track nuts on a few bolts and your off to the races!!

I like how you chose the 95lb MAG switches. I believe it is a good solution. I do have one concern and that is the moment created by guide. There is a lifting force created by the kickback of a piece of wood. Because the guides are extended by the rods for wider pieces of wood, the lifting force creates a moment arm. The MAG switches are now subject to both a vertical lift and a moment. Depending on the force and moment exerted on the MAG switch it may lose it's hold. I believe that the reason Jessem was vague in their answer and why the arms aren't 2" longer, was the issue of the moment. Out of curiosity is your hi/lo fence extruded aluminum or steel? My guess is aluminum, so the magnets won't hold. A solution may be as simple as a couple of steel pieces that can be bolted to the fence when it's in the low position.. the magnets would then hold to the steel pieces. Flat head allen screws would be ideal.

Robert should be no issue if you have it set properly personally, I like my fence to be about 10000 off. So if you line the fense up with your miter slot , front being zero the back past the blade I like to be kicked to the right about 10,000 for a little bit of relief. with that in combination with the riving knife there should be no issue with kick back. whether the fence is up in the high or low position.
