I guess it really depends on who the publisher is in the end. I’ve heard of publishers that allow full creative control and trust the studios they work with, but there are also teams and games that have been ruined because of their publishers, which is hard to swallow. I think most developers would prefer to have a fun and healthy development journey. In the worst-case scenario, they’d rather sink with their team and friends, knowing it was because of their own decisions, rather than succeed under a ton of stress and toxicity and, in the end, feel like they gained nothing. That’s just my personal opinion, though, and I completely understand the other side of the equation. One final thing-I can’t see it one-sided. Many publishing studios have closed in the last couple of years, and I understand their fear of failure or making a bad investment. After all, we’re talking about a lot of money on the table.

Yeah spot on Alex. There’s no right answers at the moment as creating games costs plenty but at the same time creative freedom is important. I just find it fascinating where things are going at the moment and only time will tell where we will end up in this equation.
