This is so funny I literally bought 2 of these because I had an issue with my rode mics randomly turning off in the the middle of a recording(wedding) so unsaid never again and for these instead. They are 100% worth it.

Two things. 1) Where was the lav mic hidden on you? 2) I have owned the Tentacle Track E for a few years which is 32bit and it has been absolutely fantastic in so many ways. More expensive than this Tascam though so that’s a big factor. Excellent video Harv.

Very enjoyable review. However, I don't think the Hollyland mics have 32 bit float. I love my wireless mics because they are so easy to use, but I'm thinking of getting a Tascam DR-10L Pro.

thoughts on this mic for an outdoor asmr mic.....like if i recorded a flowing stream or bird or ants close up?

I have to say, despite the value of this system for its cost vs feature set, I would never be able to use a personal recording system like this that I can’t monitor from afar, especially for 2-person corporate interviews. I think this particular unit would present great value for the solo-KZbinr, Vlogger, etc. But for any kind of corporate or decent paying commercial gig, having to use something like this would give me nightmares. 😅 Great review nonetheless! 💯

yeah...monitoring is key for interviews etc...I have been using Sennheisser G3 lav systems for a long time and they have been reliable. but recently I found a location with overwhelming RF interferance! so I was thinking something like this Tascam DR-10L pro would be nice but I realize that there is now way to monitor the audio (even with the bluetooth module) and that makes me a bit hesitant But I do need to have a system that will record internally so that I can repair an interview if needed. So I'm looking at the DJI Mic 2 and Rode Pro...much more money of course but I can hear the audio-I wonder how good their wireless signal is compared to the Sennheisser G3/G4 series? Have you used any of these products? What do you use? Thanks. I'm just trying to get the right gear on a budget!

@ I use Sony lav’s for main mic’s, and DJI Mic 2 either as backup or double-mic’d. I will say, having the 32bit float is making me use the DJI more and more over the Sony . . . But I’ll always keep those in the kit if I ever run into issues on location. Also, though your mic is the center point of audio quality, using wired lav mic’s on the DJI transmitters is yielding me almost identical sound quality of the Sony’s.

@@matthewbushey9455 yeah..paid gigs need double mic. I try to connect mics via XLR is possible but not always feasible (lectures etc) so I need a back up system. The DJI mic 2 is nice but no locking ring for the mic...argh, is this something to be concerned about? The Rode is a better design but too much money. SO the internal audio from the DJI is much better than the wireless signal? How is the wireless signal? almost RF free? I don't want to resync everything after-only if needed...I wish the Tascam could be monitored remotely. It's a good recorder. Thanks

About monitoring: I don't own one of these yet, but apparently there is a bluetooth thingy you can buy as an extra that let's you connect to an app where you can monitor and control up to 5 units at once. You can't use headphones for this, just the meters in the app, but maybe that's all you need.

Will upgrade my Tascam DR-10x and L recorders with these should my current ones fail. Might be a while, have been using them 6 years now.

This might be a silly question but with these, how do you monitor the audio if you're at a distance? Unless I missed something that may be a con if something is up with the audio while recording. (ie. Unwanted sound from the subject's clothing).
@HarvVideoAudioStuff4 ай бұрын
This is a great point as the only way to monitor is from the stereo mini jack, so I suppose you could do a sound check before hitting record or run a longer cable 😅 I’m hoping Tascam will include monitoring in their DR-10L Pro app at some point as it seems so obvious a solution!

@@HarvVideoAudioStuff Do you think you can pair the Godox XT1 with this? If they work together you could use the Godox's receiver to monitor the audio while recording 32 bit float on the Tascam and still be at a distance.

Since you did not compare it ti Deity pr-2 I'll assume you do not know about it. You did not mention how you sync the audio, but the PR-2 has timecode, and since I was struggling with sync by waveform I appriciate it more. And it has wireless monitoring. On top of 32bit float and analog limiter. And it is stereo 24bit if you need it so the almost double price is already justified in my opinion. If you want to record compressed it also needs a limiter if the signal is too high. Does it have analog limiter? That limits the peaks before converting the distorted signal to digital.
@HarvVideoAudioStuff4 ай бұрын
Ah no I didn’t know about the deity, I’ll check it out (I did notice it’s more than double the price of the Tascam so really should be step up). Yes the DR10L pro does have a limiter (I’m from an audio background so this didn’t need explaining 😂), many thanks
@mihalydozsa22544 ай бұрын
@@HarvVideoAudioStuff I didn't know, just following casually :) I was trying to explain if it is an analog limiter? Because I heard that some cheaper audio tech have digital limiters that limits after the analog to digital conversion.

Hi, thanks for the Review! Do You think i can use it with a shotgun mic? Preamp on/off ?
@HarvVideoAudioStuff2 ай бұрын
Hmm, it won’t supply phantom power so as long as you have that sorted it should work 🤔

I ask because I want to use it with a rode videomic pro. The videomic pro has 3 preamp settings, I think i have to set it at 0dB or even -10dB when using it with the Tascam DR 10L pro. Not sure if the preamp from rode videomic could damages the Tascam mic-in..

I actaully think your sound is quite overprocessed. High quality and kinda soothing but not natural at all with seemingly too much compressed and emphasis on the low end, it sounds a bit bloaty and lacks detail in the upper end. It sounds like a typical voice ocer sound but for a-roll seeing you talk it feels a bit off, it's not a podcast after all. But I must note, I personally prefer a clearer, more natural sound with a kick more sparkle at the top.
