We took short wooden pieces as a handle and then wrapped coloured paper around it, further upwards, until it was a lightsaber to us. Then we played with them and always shouted "Bzzzzt, Bzzzzzzt, Zapp!" I rejoiced when I got a Lightsaber from the Toy store for Christmas, made a Luke Skywalker Costume together with my mother and then always wore it for playing star Wars and sometimes even in Day-to-Day Live XD. And now there's a kid somewhere who simply tosses a Lightsaber away..... Star Wars has fallen low, doesn't it?

When people go to Disney land do they want to take pictures Micky Mouse or with Trudy Van Tubb, Peg-Leg Pete’s wife? Would you weather see Pluto walking around or K.B., Pluto’s kid brother? The reason you go to a themed amusement park is to go to a recognizable places and to see recognizable characters. To walk through a place you have seen many times. Thats the whole appeal.

I am a member of the 501st Legion and "troop" very often at all sorts of events. I can tell you, at least in my experience, kids honestly do NOT care about Star Wars at all. I will have one or two out of dozens of kids that are actually excited to see a Stormtrooper or other Star Wars character in real life, and that is generally because their parents are obviously fans. The biggest excitement comes from the adults, probably 25 years old and older. On top of that, Original Trilogy characters get the most love by far... Another problem with Galaxy's Edge refusing to showcase the OT or it's characters. I just don't think kids seek out Star Wars anymore. My stepkids are SUPER into Fortnite and other popular videogames and couldn't care less about Star Wars... Even while living with two of the biggest Star Wars fans on the planet. The franchise just doesn't speak to them for whatever reason.
@tieck44085 жыл бұрын
The big secret: we begged for SW action figures because they were the best available outside the dinosaur genre (Jurassic Park). Even the OT wasn't hooking kids by its own merits alone (nor was JP, which at PG-13 most of us hadn't seen.)
@blargen69535 жыл бұрын
I am a convention artist and interact with families a lot who are buying artwork from me, and yeah, I can definitely back you up there. Kids don't care at all anymore about Star Wars, most don't even know the names of people like Darth Vader. The only ones who show even a passive interest anymore are ones who clearly are having it forced down their throats by their mega fan parents and even then it feels like they only are passive fans out of obligation to their moms or dads. With how poor the quality is of the new EU and everything being made since the Disney buyout, Star Wars legacy will become a relic in a few decades for sure. I think that the level of choice that people have now growing up means nothing can ever really hold lasting impact on them the way we might have been able to when we were shackled to either watching whatever is on TV at the time or whatever we owned on VHS.

@@GEIST725 Their biggest problem was choosing to be derivative instead of imaginative, the Prequel Trilogy no matter what position someone has about them at least was imaginative and colorful, and creative. It had so much to offer to younger people to introduce them to the series, and was different enough from the OT that it would be a nice gateway to let them discover whether they enjoy the OT as well. The Sequels though, are just diet OT in a different can, they are so derivative of them that I don't see why any kid that actually became interested in Star Wars thanks to the Sequels would be engaged if they went back and saw the OT for the first time afterwards. But the ST isn't creative enough to be able to grip them long enough to become a lifetime fan either. The ST is going to completely destroy the series legacy longterm, between that and the quality of the EU material they basically buried the history that made this franchise, well, historic for future newcomers.
@GEIST7255 жыл бұрын
@@blargen6953 Unfortunately, I feel like everything you said is true. Plus, think of the auxiliary material the Prequels had as well: The games, The Clone Wars show, the action figures, comics and so on. There is no GOOD current show that expands the mythology and tells new stories in the setting, sorry Resistance. There have been only two mediocre videogames, kid's MAIN way to be exposed to material in current culture). The toys are priced too high, also. It's just a mess. I don't think it's too late for the franchise, though. Episode IX can be decent and it would go a long way for LFL to reach out to fans rather than fighting them at every turn.

You still need reservations for the cantina which books within 30 minutes everyday for the whole day. Merchandise is selling out and even Savis workshop at 200 bucks a pop still needs a reservation. In march Disneyland changed their blackout dates. Passes that could go to the park around this time last year cannot this year. Park pass memberships went up by 22% when they announced Galaxys Edge was gonna open. Come August 19 park attendence will skyrocket again. Trust and believe Galaxys edge is doing just fine. The sequels just don't have any memorable set pieces that also play on nostalgia of the parents who would be paying to take their kids there, assuming the kids care enough to want to visit. Like, the Mos Eisley Cantina, the Death Star Base, the Meeting Room from Return of the Jedi, the Emperor's Throne Room, Echo Base, the Jedi Temple/Council. The Prequels and OT have several memorable locations, where the ST most of its imagery is derivative (Snoke's Throne vs Palpatine's) or from very unpopular parts like Canto Bight. I don't know if it's a rights thing, but it's bizarre that they wouldn't base some locations on the established classic iconography to get Parents to want to visit the park as much as their kids, or even without their kids depending on their age and lifestyle. Imagine two big fans going for a Graduation trip or a wedding trip, or as a tourist destination while on vacation from another country.

Lucasfilm was doing the exact same thing with the starwars brand so it's completely understandable why Disney would think they could do the exact same thing with their brand of corporate whimsy. The problem ultimately with the Disney star wars is a confusion over audience and tone. They took a franchise that really aspires to have a much deeper meaning and more mature themes that actually reward rewatching at different points in your life and reduced it down to a kids only franchise with some hints of nostalgia for the parents but nothing deeper than surface level readings of anything.

@Elonyx.studios5 жыл бұрын
@@kevinj3680 If you really do think they're re-hashes of the older movies, then that's what happens when fanboys constantly demand the same old stuff. After the disastrous prequel trilogy fans demanded a return to form. And fans got that return to form, only to call it a lazy retread. Meanwhile Mad Max Fury road is just Road Warrior done all over again except bigger, more flashier and better effects (just like Episodes 7 & 8 btw according to fans logic) and yet those get critical praise and love. It's almost like fans don't actually understand what they want or why they like the things they like. Second, how exactly are the new movies pushing an "AGENDA" ? Because most of the cast isn't white? Why is that a bad thing? There race doesn't affect the story at all so it's a complete non-issue. & If you're gonna say "if race is a non-issue then it shouldn't matter what race they are" you are right, therefore there should be no reason to complain why they aren't white at all. Representation does in fact make a difference to minority groups. If you wanna ask how, HI! Black-Latino here! I'd be glad to answer any questions for you.
@kevinj36805 жыл бұрын
@@Elonyx.studios First of all, I'm half Japanese and half Caucasian, and I never said anything about the characters race, you did, so quit that shit. The Star Wars universe has thousands of different aliens, all colors, all genders, and that's great. SO...why are all the female actresses up in arms and pissed at the low movie ratings? Oh that's right, it's because of their gender, not because they just aren't very good actors, right? People are tired of all the forced "representation"....Gotta have a gay character, gotta have a black character, gotta have the strong female warrior. Come on man...you cannot honestly say that is not pandering, just to try and please everyone, instead of focusing on a good story. It's forced, obvious, and quite frankly demeaning to minorities when everyone knows the only reason they are in the movie is because of their color, not their actual acting abilities. And yes, Episode 7 IS just Episode 4 but re-written. Everyone knows that. And it's terrible. I do agree with you, they should not just keep rehashing the old stuff. There was/is a TON of material that Disney threw out the window when they took over. Ever heard of Thrawn? How about Mara Jade? But nope, Disney took the easy money grab way of just rewriting and pushing shit out the door. Lion King remake, Little Mermaid remake, Aladdin remake, Dumbo remake..... Disney hasn't had a good original idea in YEARS. Rogue One was not the best Star Wars movie, but out of the 4 Disney has made so far, yeah, it's the best one.

I think your analysis is pretty much on point: 1) The real fans, the ones that are interested in spending lots of money on Star Wars merchandise, aren't interested in the Disney sequel era of Star Wars where they've pretty much been told they're not wanted and that Disney's and Kathleen Kennedy not interested in catering to them. 2) Aside from the Falcon there seems to be nothing that's recognizable, from what I've heard the "main character" is from a sequel era book that's not even made it into a cartoon. 3) The prices seem redicolous, especially if the quality is as low as people claim. Disney bought a gold mine from George Lucas and managed to turn it into something the original fans doesn't want and the "new fandom" that they cater to aren't interested in spending money on merchandise but only shipping fantasies and such so well done Disney, I never thought anyone could make Star Wars uninteresting and bland.

A counter argument to that is that if Disney were to recreate a planet, then it’d be easy to notice very minor inconsistencies with the films. By creating Batuu, Imagineers were able to flex their creative muscle instead of being bound to the limitations of what already exists. Recreating Hogwarts or Diagon Alley from Harry Potter is a lot easier than recreating the entirety of Tattooine or Cloud City for example. I understand your feelings, but I thought I’d share mine.

All I’m saying is go if you get the chance then judge it.

You pretty much nailed it. It's one of the things that the likes of Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy don't quite get. They may want to be making a new Star Wars, but what kept it alive for 40+ years were *the fans* that love the original trilogy and prequels. But they scorned that very fan base. As to your question: _Do adults really want to go there?_ My answer: _Not at that price._ And definitely not to see some First Order nonsense. Because for me, this universe built around the new (incomplete) trilogy is much like everything else that's new with Star Wars. They just put the words _Star Wars_ on it and thought we would love it. They don't think they have to build an actual universe, I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
