The main idea of this lesson is majorly answering the question of: Has the Quran been changed due to adding diacritics and dotting of letters?
This video gives a comprehensive look at this while shedding a lot of light on the Hebrew text and how it was distorted at the hands of its people.
Video referred to at the end: • The SEVEN Ahrof & the ...

One should keep in mind that no a single semitic language contained diacritics and dotting in its origin . Diacritics ( TASHKIL ) was invented later to avoid structural ambiguity as in ( إِنَّمَا يَخْشَى اللَّهَ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ الْعُلَمَاءُ )

Very helpful. I recently was talking with a fellow Muslim, and it seems that many don't know about this. Native Arabs usually are able to read newspapers without diacritics, the dots are a whole different level, but even though, if you gave me any Surah that I already know, I wouldn't have a problem reading it without dots.

The oldest OT Canons used by Christians are actually Greek texts, known as the Septuagint. As this video correctly points out, what's understood today as the texts that are accepted by jews and certain protestants, is an early medieval canon which was "updated" (cough) by rabbinical jews, often with the aim of trying to obfuscate prophesies that align with Jesus Christ as the Messiah. This is called "tikkun sopherim". With the Quran, the plausible theory is not that the meaning of the text was altered trough diacritics, but rather simply trough the meaning of the words or the concepts themselves. Fred Donner has some great lectures/books on this.

In the early period, the Holy Quran was without dots and Arabs, it does not mean that the Arabs did not have any concept of dots and Arabs, but they were so mature in their language that they did not feel the need for dots and Arabs. This also happens in other languages, then when the Qur'an came to Ajam, then the need was felt to decorate the Qur'an with dots and Arabs, so then Arabs were created.

The introduction of critical marks was indeed to make sure everybody read things correctly, because otherwise, different dialects, and different amounts of language ability would cause the text to mutate and corrupt. The fact that the Quran has these is proof of it as the garage, to paint the prophecy that God will see through his preservation and sell the fact that it has continued on preserved, is, indeed, a proof of its authenticity

@@serkanalbayrak2972 I have an example. It’s the Ayah in Surat Saffaat: { بل عجبت ويسخرون} This Ayah means “Rather you wondered while they are ridiculing” or “Rather I wondered while they are ridiculing”. Wether or the other meaning depends on wether there is damma or fatha on the ت. And both Qira’aat are of course correct and they are not contradictory. But both meanings apply. The first one talks about the prophet wondering about the disbelievers ridiculing and the second talks about Allah that his wondering about they’re ridiculing. The Arabic term which I translated to wonder is also an expression of opposition or liking. The word wondering also indicates an unexpected occurrence. But this doesn’t apply for Allah because Allah knows everything and nothing happens outside of his will. And also the second meaning which would be liking is not applicable because of the context. Therefore the word is to be understood as opposing or rejecting this behavior of the disbelievers. This, and Allah knows best.

But the idea that all companions were saints is just not true, this salafist companion worship is not right, we should assume well, but we don't know at the end. The Qur'an clearly mentions that whoever kills a believer with no right will be in hellfire, as jalidina as the kaafirun, as eternally as them... This is factual. But honestly why care about this? We got the Qur'an today, history is from the unseen, and written by the winner as they say... The text is undotted but we got references of recitations. 3:7 most surely talks abour the Qiraat, and the people firm in knowledge should say "we believe in it, it's ALL from our Lord" Then ask so our hearts are not deviated. The short answer is yes! It has many times. For example, in the original story of the 7 cave sleepers written by bishop Jacob of Serugh uses the Aramaic word "كلئهم, kalaahum", which means their guardian angel. while the author(s) of the Quran copied it as "كلبهم, kalbahum", which means their dog. The dotting mistakes don't have to occur during the transmission, it could also happen while writing the book and copying from other cultures, legends, myths, and books. and I gave only one example, and I can go on for many more, but you can imagine the greatest Quranic scholars are not Arab but ajamis (Persians) so they didn't even speak Arabic at that time.

Can anyone elaborate further on the Surah Al Hujurat verse 6 in two the different readings? What is the difference between فَتَبَيَّنُوٓا۟ and فتثبتوا? How these verses give the same meaning despite the two different words?
@DrWoofOfficial
@DrWoofOfficial Ай бұрын
tabayyan (تبين) means to be clear, and also in this context to seek clarity. tathabbat (تثبت) means to be established, and also in this context, to establish the veracity of a matter The two verbs go hand in hand, because to be sure of a matter and to establish it as a fact, one needs to go through the vigourous means, including seeking the necessary information that will clarify the situation and make it evident for all that it is the truth that is being reported. This verb change occurs thrice in the Quran; twice in Surah An Nisa' (4), verse 94, and Surah Al-Hujuraat (49), verse 6.

@@DrWoofOfficial So just to be clear of any doubt, this 'verb change' is there to give a deeper meaning to a verse and not necessary give a different context as these two qiraat complement one another?
@DrWoofOfficial
@DrWoofOfficial Ай бұрын
@@brunosinger18 Yes, they complement each other. tathabbut requires tabayyun, and tabayyun requires tathabbut. For example, when Allah reveals the Clear Book and reveals Clear Signs, and orders his Prophets to clarify to the people, then this is all establishing the truth of God and his religion in the hearts of those rightly guided

I’d like to make a small correction at timestamp 5:40. NOT all Muslims will Be able to add the Tashkil and dots since 1- not all Muslims around the world know arabic and 2- even if they knew arabic, not all of them are strong in it. In Egypt for example, some people are weak in Arabic even though it’s their mother tongue. This is of course due to a couple of reasons I won’t get into. So you should have said “any Muslim who is strong or at least knows Arabic well will be able to add the tashkil and dots.”

Muslims should not use the suffix A.D. Because it is standardized under the Julian and Gregorian calendars, the system spread throughout Europe and the Christian world during the centuries that followed. AD stands for Anno Domini, Latin for “in the year of the Lord”, while BC stands for “before Christ”. Muslims should use C.E. for the Common Era.

As-salaamu Alaykum, From my understanding dotting or vowel marking was available to be used at the time of Qurans revelation, but wasn't in early Qur'ans because of the 10 different qirats. Thoughts on this l? I believe I seen something about this from the Muslim Lantern channel and he showed example works.

Seriously? You can see three different colours used in the diacritical markings on the screen shot from the video, black - used at the time the original text was written, and then red and yellow at some time later. It is obvious that some of the diacritic markings on the text was added at a later date.

@The_Last_Rick I think you're referring to ءَايَٰتُنَا (بَيِّنَٰ)تٍ. In this case these are no vowels. They are part of the letters. First the Kufiscript had no dots at all and it was difficult for non Arabs. Then very soon some they put dots on some letters that they were not mistaken. These dots are no diacritics. Only with the Shaddah ( ّ ) I don't know the ruling. But I think its the same.

Yes, the Quran is primarily an audio book. When recited by ten people who don't know each other, the Quran has the same number of chapters and verses. It has the same chapter, verse and word order.
