Has Winter Finally Beaten Us - Narrowboat Cruising on the Llangollen Canal

I move our Narrowboat from Blakemere to Ellesmere, through Ellesmere tunnel on a beautiful frosty morning. I try to get water from the services but the taps are frozen. I'm lucky and find a mooring on the Ellesmere arm and we meet up with fellow vloggers for the Christmas Light switch on. Plus we are stopped in our tracks by storm Dararagh, but that's not the only thing that stops us.

Evening to you both,,just been watching your video for the first time and really enjoyed it, but the main reason for commenting is the fact you were having your cataract done,let me tell you don't worry ,I had my right eye for about a month ago and believe me it changed my life,only having the sight in one eye I was walking about in a constant fog for over a year before having mine done No hassle no pain was awake all way through being reassured by the operating team all way through When it was over I expected a patch on but it was a clear covering and when I walked out of the building....WOW the colours and the light was fantastic.still only have the one good eye but that's 100 % ,don't worry it will be fine

Glad you are both ok post the storms, you were in the best place, we had no power for 48 hrs, thank goodness for the log burner! A friend of mine just got a toy poodle in September, boy you should see this little thing, so bloody smart, she has her doing all sorts of things, not tricks but sit, lie, stay, touch, down, but she’s only a few months old. Amazing little girl. What a great life you guys have, you’re feasting like that now and it’s early December imagine what your Christmas lunch will be like. Cheers...PS: For Paul: the cataract operation is very straight foward and painless. My partner is a visual artist and had her cataracts done many years ago. It had an immediate and positive impact upon her eye-sight, upon her colour sense and upon her work...and she doesn't even have to wear glasses anymore (envy!).

I needed that today as one of my friends has had to have her greyhound, Malcolm pts as he’s had meningitis and didn’t recover. He used to join us with our two and have a run around a local secure dog field. Hope he’s now running free over the rainbow bridge

Another lovely video. Good luck with the cataract surgery. I had both eyes done between some of my cancer surgeries. It wasn't bad at all. Being awake and fully aware was the worst part of cataract surgeries.

Great vlog, plenty of friends and food and drink. Storm Darragh was the worst Ive seen in North Wales and I did wonder how you faired. Ellesmere is a great place to be stuck for a while, but its always busy when we are there. Our shared boat is in Blackwater Meadow Marina, and your right, the staff are very friendly and nice. Anthony, your food, I could smell and anticipate the tastes --especially the Baileys Cheesecake as I love Baileys. Keep warm xxx

We will be gutted if we can’t enjoy Christmas in the basin though. It is so frustrating. The staff were so friendly at the marina. I think everyone loved the food. Haven’t made Baileys cheesecake for years. It was delish. Have a great week ❤️

storm Darragh. will never forget it here on the west coast of Ireland, thousands without electricity and water, I only got electricity back this afernoon a few hours short of a week with no power. I did think of all of you on narrowboats and hoped you were all safe. By god the food looks good, you certainly know how to cook. A glass can be used to cut out scones if you don't have a cutter to hand. That's a cliff hanger about the doggo news and name🐕😄

I've been on boats in bad weather when docked and for some reason have always liked it. I know it's weird but something about it. I don't mind the banging around that much but I can sleep through a tornado so there's that, lol. It's great you have a network of friends which I feel is important. Yes, you want your personal time but you ave have a group to have fun with and support you if needed. Hope the surgery went/goes well (not sure how delayed these videos are). My mother has had it twice, once on each eye. Completely changed things for her and I think she said each eye took maybe 15 minutes max for them to do. Happy to hear about a new companion as well. It's hard at first, at least for me, because you feel like you are moving along from the one that was with you for so long. I started to look at it as your not forgetting the companion you lost, you are honoring them by remembering the time you had with them yet continuing those memories and building new ones with a new companion. I say that becase think of how many times doing something with a new companion will remind you of times with Dexter. Good tidings, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

I am such a light sleeper Jeff. Don’t usually mind a storm, this one was a bit rough. We do have a fab network of friends and that is the best bit about boat life I reckon. Surgery seemed to go well. I had the same op too on both eyes, it was incredible. I think we are ready for a new crew remember. Dexter won’t be forgotten and not a day goes by when we don’t think of him but the boat seems so empty. Merry Christmas to you too. Hear is hoping for a better 2025 have a great weekend ❤️
