The people claiming Nintendo has gone woke because Zelda's the hero now clearly have not noticed that people have been asking for Zelda to be playable for decades now. Spirit tracks kinda got half credit, but this is the first (canon) game that you solely play as Zelda.

@@Bandikit and technically it’s not even solely Zelda, being that you play as link at the start. Idk, I’m fine with the games having whatever as long as link gets at least a little bit of playtime (being that for thirty years he’s been the sole protagonist) it’s just be off to not get to play as him, even for just like 5 minutes

When it comes to Peach's character in the Mario movie, I do like it as she's not the tired damsel in distress. Also, if we look at the spin-offs and assume those are canon, it shows Peach can hold her own in a fight. In Death Battle, it's shown she could demolish Zelda in a one on one fight. It stands to reason she could defeat Bowser by herself. If we look at Princess Peach: Showtime, the game she starred in as the main hero, she shows she's not afraid to get her hands dirty. The villain in that game looks like they're more powerful than normal Bowser. I don't think she's a girl boss/boss b*tch character. She's shown herself to be competent in the spin-offs, in particular the Mario RPGs.

You having to specify you’re not a “woke apologist” at the beginning was so cringe. I’m sure the new Star Wars sucked based on reviews but good Lord, every time a movie, tv show or game features a woman, person of color or gay/trans person, at least 10 men have to get online and cry about it being “ woke” like ok, guess me existing on planet Earth as a black person is “ woke” then… so hurtful and annoying.

I could explain my opinion further but this is KZbin and it's very real that there are consequences for having certain opinions. I'll just say I understand what you're saying, but it's not the point I or most people are making (maybe some people).

@ I think when the argument first started being brought up all those years ago, there *might* have been some justification behind it… lgbt and racial representation was newer to all of us so I can *almost* understand feeling a little uneasy about it (keyword being *almost*) however, when it comes to movies, tv shows, games, books etc. We never have to justify the existence of a white, straight character so why on earth do we have to jump through hoops to justify the existence of a character who’s a person of color, or female, gay, trans etc. ? The deeper you go, the less logical sense said thinking gets. All kind of people exist in the world and entertainment is just an extension of that.

a game with sheik would of been 10000000 x Beter though even if it is just Zelda she has different abilities as sheik and you could have a place to swap between them like link in oot or a ability like smash and make some puzzles for Zelda and others for sheik

Pokemon company has definitely gone woke, they hired a dei team (allegedly for 250k) whos first action was to make every pokemon go character deformed and ugly I don't think the zelda game or Nintendo as a whole is forcing identity politics (woke) but the cracks have begun to appear

@@NintendoUpDotCom You use the term so often in the video. Sorry for being a bit harsh. I just have a problem with the term "Woke", as I feel like people use it to try and put down any media that has any form of diversity. Games, shows, and movies with female leads or queer characters are often more scrutinized and judged than media with straight male characters, and I feel like that's part of the problem, as it makes people feel like it's normal to judge something for having a female lead, when that should be completely normal. You're right in that the Zelda franchise is different, as it's got around 20 previous entries, all with male leads. But I just feel like the term Woke has gotten to the point in which people can't define it but still use it to justify judgment of any media with characters in minority groups. Sorry for the rant, this is a frustrating topic for me. Your video's actually pretty good, and I'm glad you're going to give Echoes of Wisdom a try
