While I agree in most cases when someone attacks grammar instead of the argument it shows they have no counter, you arguable done the exact same thing by making a vague insult without giving any reason behind it. But you seem to think it was Americans' fault for proclaiming their country of origin too openly.
@arjunkrishnagiri3 жыл бұрын
@@benisjamin6583 Ya know I wonder why 9/11 happened. Hmm?
@benisjamin65833 жыл бұрын
@@arjunkrishnagiri In Osama bin Laden's "Letter to America," he doesn't state taking Saudi resources as any of the top 5 motives for the attack. Not quite sure where you got that inclination. Also, 'taking oil unjustly' does not equal 'We're Americans.' You're giving an entirely unrelated explanation. The original comment seemed to suggest that if Americans didn't outwardly express their country of origin enthusiastically (or held no enthusiasm for their country), then 3000 random, innocent people wouldn't have died to the hands of an Islamic extremist organization.
@mostertrucks3 жыл бұрын
@@benisjamin6583 obviously just saying "we're Americans" doesn't lead to 9/11, but it suggests that Americans are the good guys. Sort of like "We're Americans. Any criticism of America is invalid because the Middle East has done worse." America deserves to be criticized in this case for the relentless attacks on the Middle East which many Americans turn a blind eye to. When Bin Laden retaliates with 9/11, the people saying "we're Americans" suggest that 9/11 was unprovoked and that America has done nothing to the Middle East in return. Simply saying "we're Americans" obviously doesn't warrant the 9/11 attack but the implication behind it defends the equally awful attacks that America has committed. Hasan and I and everyone on this planet agrees that 9/11 was devastating and awful, and no one is saying America deserved it. What we are saying is that America has committed similar atrocities to the Middle East which provoked Bin Laden and directly led to the attacks of 9/11.

@NATtelevision3 жыл бұрын
Can you explain to me how America deserving 9/11 can manifest itself in any other way than Americans being hurt? I mean America is a collection of Americans, and Gianna’s response to this I thought was actually good here. It is the equivalent of saying something like “Chicago deserves what’s happening to it because of its bad gun policies, but not Chicagoans”… it’s like yeah so how does that manifest in any other way than Chicagoans being affected?
@teppichfliesestaubknauel50442 жыл бұрын
@@NATtelevision Americans are Individuals or Smaller groups who didn‘t want to or endorsed the foreign politics of the US in the 90s from their own will and without populist interference. America is the system as a whole especially with the politicians and the overall system which led to this. So there is a big difference between America and Americans. Things done to a system obviously affects the people in the system and it can affect the system. Thats why its important that Hasan points out that Americans did not deserve it. And Even I came up with that by thinking for like 10 seconds over it as a non-American.
@NATtelevision2 жыл бұрын
@@teppichfliesestaubknauel5044 And what you’ve come up with in your 10 seconds is garbage. The “thing” done to the system which you mention was in fact not done to any system at all. It was done to 3,000 innocent American civilians. It would be like saying in 1940 “well Germany deserves acts of war against civilians because the system is bad.” It’s like no it doesn’t… because you wouldn’t even be attacking the bad German system then. You would be attacking innocent German civilians.
@NATtelevision2 жыл бұрын
@Disappointment Department “The American government should have seen it coming” is a statement I agree with, but one that is still far away even from “America’s government deserved 9/11”. And your simplistic cause-effect analysis ignores an incredible swath of Al Queda’s motivation. Yes there were foreign policy blunders… but “destabilized” supposes they were stable in the first place, they were able to train in regions that harbored terrorism that we hadn’t touched yet at that time, they were angered even by good US foreign policy such as recognition of Israel. Ultimately what Hasan clarified… that although Americans didn’t deserve to die, the American government deserved the attack on Americans… is still clearly a gross statement.

If you're curious why Gianno seems so annoying, that is by design. Conservative argument model is about winning the debate in the eyes of the viewer, not the discussion or making a compelling argument, and Gianno is excellent in his execution. He doesn't make arguments or full points of his own. Rather, he allows Hasan to launch into the explanation of a point and then jumps in with something unrelated (we call this a strawman) and uses the offset commentary to try and disrupt Hasan (which doesn't work) but more importantly, *it confuses the viewer*. When you hear people use the phrase 'bad faith argument', this is a very good example of what they mean. Hasan is earnestly trying to express important issues and how he thinks we can best tackle them. Gianno not once offers a counterpoint with a solution from his side, because his motive isn't to tackle issues, it's to 'be outraged' and attempt to discredit Hasan. Tl;dr Conservatism is a disease.

The labor movement in this country is one of the main reasons of this country's rise to economic power. He's uninformed, and as a retired union member I'm annoyed at his notion. Please put more informed people on your show, because this young man is not a good influence for young people entering the workforce! He talks as if he's trying to gain acceptance of trumps lopsided following..not a good thing.

Except the fact that public sector unions have been notorious for using union dues to fund politicians that in return employ policies that screw over taxpayers and labor workers and make the union more capital. Unions are immoral and never actually resulted in economic growth. The free market, competition, and development in technology jogged the economy and opened more jobs and higher wage opportunities for workers.
@ThePandaThunder4 жыл бұрын
@@itsboxingbear6551 you really think a company would give higher wages if they didn't have too? just look at how much companies pay in poorer foreign countries. They don't care about the people they employ.
@cereszin4 жыл бұрын
@@itsboxingbear6551 Yeah that lie of the free market competition might get to the feelings of you americans, but in the countries where massive industries get "economic support" to build their factories we dont see much of that job opportunities. Mainly because economic support generally means less wages for the workers and tax isention for the company (less income to the state from taxes). So not seeing more jobs and higher wage opportunities, just the oposite.

@Andrea MENDENHALL Not once was Hasan talking about the American people. He was explaining how the government basically instigated or provided the motives for 9/11
@evanmaguire22803 жыл бұрын
@Andrea MENDENHALL Okay well again, he meant we deserved it in a sense of how we’ve taking innocent human life in the Middle East for decades prior to 9/11 and arming the contras who would become the terrorist organizations today. That just goes over a lot of people’s heads and think the millions murdered in the middle of our pointless conflicts is okay. So what he meant was that it was only a matter of time we got served our own medicine. Not the fact that all those people who were actually effected deserved it.
@evanmaguire22803 жыл бұрын
@Andrea MENDENHALL Also there was a plane that was meant to hit the White House or Capitol but passengers on board stopped it thankfully but sadly sacrificed themselves to do so. And also Bush knew about al queda looking to target US soil for a while and ignored it. He then continued to launch strikes in the Middle East for our own gain.
@evanmaguire22803 жыл бұрын
@Andrea MENDENHALL Just no, we have added to the problem tenfold and murdered millions in the process which were unjustified. It’s definitely sad that we lost thousands in 9/11 and nobody is denying that. However to just say “OH HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT THOSE WHO LOST THERE LIVES!!! 😡😡” without understanding what we’ve done is much much worse is very ignorant and highly hypocritical. Just look at others in the comments if you wanna learn more. Hell if you wanna research yourself start off with Iran Contra Affair and Ronald Reagan. Same with Blowback and the CIA. It goes much deeper than you think.

@nadiakaramat84564 жыл бұрын
Idk if you were trying to say that you think we should be able to say we’re proud to be an American without it being a negative or not (I’m going to assume you were sorry if you weren’t) but being over proud of your country can be problematic. Using the example of the debate, when piker was trying to explain that yes, Americans were sadly killed during 9/11 we, America was bombing the Middle East and giving them weapons ultimately leading to the deaths of thousands of middle easterns. So when gianno was saying “BUT AMERICANS WERE KILLED” it’s like saying it doesn’t matter that those middle easterns deaths weren’t as traumatic and believes that even though they were helping kill thousands of middle easterns for years 9/11 was worse. So when you start saying “IM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN” you sound ignorant and a blind follower
