I am praying that the popularity of the Avengers propels the Haslab program from the damages caused by the EoV campaign to our community. I would not be disappointed if a Hank Pym related Haslab is proposed. This issue that concerns me dearly is the funding price Hasbro will ask. Great video! If the HasLab is Giant-Man, it really needs to be Giant-Man AND Wasp. Janet is nowhere to be seen so far during this anniversary year - and it's her 60th anniversary as well. If Jan is simply just a tier or an early bird figure, that would be really insensitive on Hasbro's part to make the only female founder a throwaway offering. Jan deserves the spotlight, just like the guys. Also, this could give Hasbro two new bodies paid for by us - the giant size male and a shorter adult female buck, since Jan is supposed to be shorter than the usual Marvel female.

Here’s what I’m envisioning: A 24 inch (that’s 10 inches taller than the Toybiz BAF) CLASSIC Giant Man with no lights or electronics for $300-$350 Giant Man doesn’t need lights or electronics, so that’s an easy way to keep the price down. And while I personally would like Giant Man as big as possible, I understand that a slightly smaller figure at a more reasonable price would make it easier for people to pull the trigger And like you pointed out, it absolutely has to be his classic design. The people who are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for Haslab items are the same people who are hardcore Marvel fans, and hardcore fans will always gravitate towards iconic and classic looks Basically, there’s 2 things I want out of this: I want it to be noticeably bigger than the Toybiz BAF, and I want all of the costume details of Giant Man’s classic costume to be sculpted on (the gloves, boots, chest straps, mask details, etc.). If it’s just a big blank body with minimal sculpting, it’s going to look terrible
@FirstLast-fc7dt Жыл бұрын
With sculpted nipples?
@LylesFigureFiles Жыл бұрын
You've got it Juan. The way too much disposable income crowd skews more classic with the outfits and he will definitely need to have those costume elements sculpted.
@Disconnekted Жыл бұрын
Things I expect Hasbro to do here: 1. Price the item at around $350 to $400, a price point they know we have been willing to pay for giant sized figures before . No way they walk the price back at this point.$350 to $400 is a lock . 2. Expect one of the tiers to be a gold repaint of the MK 1 Iron Man. For as much drawing power as Hank and Janet have , I believe Hasbro will want to try and make this appeal to as many fans as possible , similar to how they tried to shoehorn Maddie into the Hell Charger. Tony naturally fits with this classic Avenger theme and I think we all have known a gold repaint is inevitable since the MK 1 was shown . 3. There will be no Early Bird goal. For as many missteps as the Hell Charger campaign had, none was more damning than taking away the civilian Robbie figure because the project didn't fund in the first week. Given the high price point this project will carry , there is no chance Hasbro will want to repeat the perception of decreased value again. 4. It will be close, but it will fund. The higher price point is just the way things are now. Everyone will complain every day about the price during the campaign but it won't have the problems gaining momentum that the HC did. 5. Either a classic Janet or civilian Hank Pym will be included in the package from the get go. Final tier guesses: Gold Iron Man MK 1, Yellow jacket, 12 inch Goliath , Zombie Giant Man Head
@LylesFigureFiles Жыл бұрын
I can just hear the comments of folks complaining Zombie Giant Man isn't accurate since his head would be the only zombified portion. Hasbro could really wish some negative goodwill putting gold Iron Man in that HasLab and would put themselves in a corner if it didn't fund so we could "never" get gold Mark II.

I genuinely don't think Giant Man should be a HasLab, but it looks like it's gonna be that. Hopefully he isn't more than $200 and even that is pushing it IMO. For Tiers I really don't think Classic Wasp and Yellowjacket should be tiers as those are characters and costumes that a lot of people want but locking it behind a $200+ Haslab is a bad idea. Jarvis and Mk1 Ultron is perfect though. I really like the idea of a new blank body for 12 inch scale figures is great and I think a 12 figure as a stretch goals would make paying $200 an easy justification. Personally I'd use Wasp but not that classic firat costume, I think it would be better to use pretty much any other costume, something super fans would want like I think she had a blue outfit that was pretty much the classic costume but blue and with no pointy cowl, or maybe we just get like a normal Janet Van Dyne figure along with a normal Lab Coat Hank Pym? And while I know it's not everyone's favorite I think the Hank Pym Wasp would be a decent tier pick, because I don't think that outfit is popular enough to really deserve a normal spot, but is niche enough to be a decent stretch goal. Edit: Oh and they NEED to show ALL the stretch goals from the get go. No more of this revealing them as they are unlocked/they get desperate for backers.
@ReeceHoward06 Жыл бұрын
$200 for a Giant Man is more than pushing it, I'd argue $150 is the MAX value of the base product. Hear me out: What you're likely going to get is an oversized Bucky Cap or Vulcan mold, with little paint and details. Articulation will likely not be emphasized, which I can understand is not as important for the bigger characters... Basically, this will be the simplest and cheapest haslab to create, so $$$ is definitely going to be what justifies the purchase for most.
@The_Rage_Kage Жыл бұрын
@@ReeceHoward06 $150 would be a perfect price for an 18-20 inch Giant-Man IMO, no more than $100 for a 12 inch. If all the Stretch goals are just normal 6 inch figures $200 is pushing it unless the figures are all great. If they made a Stretch Goal a 12 figure $200 is a good deal for everything you get. This is why revealing ALL the stretch goals from the get go is so important. If we know everything we are going to get at the max amount of backers it will make more people at least back it to try and reach the goal. The Hell Charger wasn't great but I think knowing everything we could have got from the get go might have helped it, but honestly I don't think it was going to happen regardless. Given the articulation of the last 2 Haslabs I don't think Giant Man would suffer much as he doesn't have large shoulder pads or waist armor pieces to limit anything, and there isn't a lot of sculpt detail needed for Giant Man, but doesn't mean they couldn't add some stitching sculpt detail in places. Personally I think Giant Man as a Haslab is really dumb and unnecessary, mostly because I just don't see anyone really genuinely wanting a 24-30 inch Giant Man. I think people are so starved for a good giant sized Giant Man that they will buy into an overpriced Haslab just to get what might be the only way they think they can get it. Honestly even 18-20 inch just seems too big. I'm a hardliner for them bringing back the 12 inch Legends, but using it as a series to make just larger giant sized characters like Giant Man, Goliath, Atlas etc.
@ReeceHoward06 Жыл бұрын
@@The_Rage_Kage Im with you there. If they push it as a package deal, it could justify $200. Otherwise, I see it failing or stalling outside of hardcore collectors because the lack of polish and effort for the absurd prices is currently killing the Legends line.

Hey JL, a nice video and tier ideas! A HasLab Giant man would be cool. The Toybiz Giant man looks fine, but the articulation (legs) is pretty bad. I would be good with a new 12-16 inch classic or modern Giant man with the Wasp to keep the price reasonable. As for tiers, a new Yellow Jacket is needed, and an 8-10" Clint Barton Goliath would be a home run for me!

Some interesting ideas Lyle. Whichever version of Giant Man/Goliath they go with, I think an unmasked head option with the cowl round his neck would be cool. At first I was against a first appearance Wasp being included, but as she has so many costumes, I don't really mind. The Ultron MK 1 is a cool idea. Jarvis maybe, although a 2 pack with a civilian Steve Rogers or Tony Stark might be good. Someone else mentioned a normal sized Hank in his costume with a lab coat. I'd like that.

The buy it all guys will grab I instantly, but collections like me, won’t bite if we don’t see figures and characters we know and can relate with. Cool, just wouldn’t be my choice! Next, they’ll be dropping BAF figures, as the Spider-Man wave is proof of that! Appreciate your videos! :)

The Black and Blue costume add-ons is a good idea. They need to go back to their 1970s designs and make a soft goods costume. The black part of the costume could be all one stretchy cloth piece that is put on via the legs and pulled up over the arms. It would be attached in the back with a thin strip of velcro (it was metal snaps in the 70s). A softer blue plastic chest piece pulled down over the head or neck if the head is popped off. The helmet would be a slightly firmer blue plastic or a head swap. The white belt could be a wrap around with a button buckle in the front. I think it should be a tier unlock, not a early-bird special.

Love the video, as always. You and I are on the same page regarding Giant Man's height. I do not want Hasbro making him three feet tall just because they can. He can still tower over the Avengers and be dwarfed by Galactus; that preserves the majesty of the Devourer of Worlds (and the Sentinel too). So yeah, somewhere in that 18-24 inches ballpark is good with me, and as you stated, which I totally agree with, his costume isn't complicated so the sculpt and production should be comparatively easy. As a fan, I really, really want a classic Wasp and Yellowjacket, but I can see fans complaining if they were only available as HasLab tiers when they could be sold at Target for the normal price. (Speaking of which, I'm not so sure that won't happen. Walmart and Target both have collector cons coming up and we don't know what the Marvel Legends product will be... at least I don't think we do... but I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get a classic solo release Wasp just like we got Ant-Man.) That said, I like the other ideas. I like the idea of getting Jarvis. I also like the Goliath tier, as he would also be a simple build; just scale up the standard buck to 12-13 inches as you said. Great idea! What I would love them to do, however, is spend some of that extra $$$ on tooling articulated miniature Ant-Man and Wasp figures. In 1984, Mattel made Wheeled Warrior toys based on the cartoon Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors. The human driver figures were small, only about an inch, I think (???) but they could move their arms and legs. And that was nearly 40 years ago!!! Tell me Hasbro, with the HasLab production budget and skills, couldn't make an articulated Pym Posse!

Giant Man needs to be as big as the Sentinel because I feel he can grow that big and size up to a giant robot. Also it needs to be at the same price. Or less if it’s cheaper. The reason why the Hell Charger failed is because Hasbro included the price of the Tier onto the figure making the set not worth the price anymore. Tier should be a plus. No matter if we unlock 1 Tier, no tier or all tier, the price will remain a price worth the figure on its own.
@LylesFigureFiles Жыл бұрын
The Sentinel was $350 but that was likely due to all the gears and mechanical parts/light-up functions. That won't be needed for Hank so hoping he's $100 cheaper.
@5hogg23 Жыл бұрын
Giant Man should be cheaper than the Sentinel, he is going to have much less detailing. I don't see how alternate heads would make sense. It doesn't need to light up. Its would basically be an upscaled Vulcan or RYV buck. I would pay around $200-$250 for a Classic Giant-man the size of the Haslab Sentinel with some 6" bonus figures thrown in. I think the biggest problem with a Giant-Man figure is figuring out which costume to use. It changed a lot and everyone has their favorite costume they want to see, so Hasbro is only going to be able to please a small number of people. Unless he has alternate clothes like a Barbie doll or 12" GI Joe. A lot of the figures they come out with are only accurate to a handful of comic panels and that's not as big a deal for $20 figures, but would I pay Haslab prices for a figure like that? I'm not so sure. I don't see this being a runaway hit like the Sentinel and Galactus.
@LylesFigureFiles Жыл бұрын
His costume changes are the sticky point. I think the best way to work around it is to use the tier for a blank body like Goliath where Hasbro could roll out other costume variations down the road.

I've been pretty vocal online, speaking against the idea of a Giant Man Haslab (see my other comments on LMF on this topic). Maybe I'm too pessimistic, but I wouldn't trust Hasbro to be able to deliver on it. That said, if they actually managed to present the project in a way that you laid it out then I would back it. I don't expect they'll be to, but we'll see. Here's where I think they'll go wrong. I get the vibe from Marvel that they set the price first, then work from there. So I fully expect this to be $400, and then they'll try to scale him up or pack in a bunch of useless fluff to justify the price. Second, I don't see them ever giving us a 12" figure as a pack in. Adaptoid is rumored to be $80, and he's even a retool. There's no way they'll pack something like that. I think he's going to be too big, too expensive, with some mediocre tiers that are cheap for them to produce, and that's why I don't have the faith that they will do it right. That's why I say don't do it, and just give us an 18" retail Gaint Man. But we'll see.
@LylesFigureFiles Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the price is absolutely gonna be key. They can't go overboard and try to cash out on a HasLab in this financial climate. I really hope they try for a lower HasLab as this would be an ideal time for a $250 one that would sell at a lower price point. Going close to $400 would be death.

As a lifelong Avengers and Hank Pym fan, getting my backing on this Haslab should be a layup. There’s only one problem. I love my Toy Biz Giant Man BAF, and space is becoming an issue. So here’s what I need. I need this to come in at $300 or less. I’m not going above that for a character/costume that I already have. I agree that there’s no need to add a lot of bells and whistles to this figure. Keep it simple, and keep the cost down. Let’s not do an Early Bird. That just irritates fans. I love the idea of a classic Wasp and Yellowjacket as tiers , but I think if you really want to get things cooking, make the other tier the West Coast Avengers version of Hank. Let the final tier be the parts to build the alternate costume. I think it’s important that all the tiers be Hank and Jan centric. Do that, or something very similar, and I think you’ve got a home run.

The early bird WWE New Generation Arena basically got funded thanks to the Early Bird Macho Man so it can work. It's just a matter of finding one that is useful but not tied so tight to the project like the civilian mode Robbie.

It won't be 150, I wish it would be, but it won't. The safest bet I got for a 24 inch Giant Man would be 300 at the worst for now, and 250 at the best for now. Just going off of how the Sentinel and Galactus cost, that my best and most realistic guess.

I can't see how they could sell $300 for Giant Man since his sculpt is nowhere near as complex as the Sentinel or Galactus. It's kinda why I'm thinking they use the HasLab to fund new blank 12-14" giant bodies.

I don't know on this one. Realistically, this could, and should, clock in at MCU Surtur size and price point (emphasise that: PRICE POINT!!!). Even if they are aiming at a sub-$200 price point, I can't see what they could add that (a). Justifies (minimum) a price point 4x higher than Surtur or (b). Is that much bigger and better than the old, but still unchallenged and excellent Toy Biz BAF - which had more articulation than any contemporary Hasbro ML at any scale (shoulder butterfly, toe articulation and individual finger joints - all standard for the time. How things change, eh?) And I can’t help thinking this will be a hard, hard sell. Should just 'big' figures (12" to 18") really be crowd-funded? Obviously, Galactus and Sentinel are not just 'big' figures, they are cosmically and mechanically super-sized, and could not be BAF'ed or Deluxed or Super Deluxed. But there are so many just 'big' figures from the comics - Atlas, Black Goliath, Giant Man (and off the top of my head, I can think of at least 8 different costumes Hank wore) Goliath, Stature - to name just the obvious Avengers options, is one big figure really the way to go? Hasbro desperately need a 'WOW!' factor here, and I don't know if swap parts (even arms, heads, legs and other customisations) will be enough. And what of the tier unlocks? Aren't they kinda limiting themselves to Golden Age Avengers? A retro Wasp with whacky pointy helmet, Avengers #4 Cap, Antman (+ants), another 'classic' Thor (already done, and done perfectly for the 80A/Alex Ross assortment) and maybe a Hawkeye? And what if they do an MCU Giant Man? Many questions, many concerns! And this is the problem with crowd-funded product: you are totally dependent on complete buy-in from the most picky and fanatical of all toy collectors, and you can't tell potential backers what they should like/want to invest in.
@juansanchez209 Жыл бұрын
I think you’re grossly underestimating how iconic and important Giant Man is to hardcore Marvel fans. He’s a founding Avenger essential to the display and he’s THE premier big hero in Marvel. He’s much, much more iconic than other big characters like Surtur, Fin Fang Foom, or Giganto (all three of whom barley ever show up). Giant Man is iconic enough if a character that he deserves better than being a 12 inch deluxe figure
@LylesFigureFiles Жыл бұрын
Really thought I'd responded to you yesterday, but it's not here soo.. Giant Man is a fixture of various versions of the Avengers so he's important. Surtur worked for a retail MCU figure, but a comic one would be better suited for a HasLab. I think 12" works for other giant characters, but Giant Man should be the tallest incarnation of those hence the HasLab scale.
@iangoodchild7312 Жыл бұрын
@Juan Sanchez Actually (and with respect), I don't think I am! He's a C-list Avenger at best, and one of the most transient, temporary and frequently changed of all the Golden Age characters (I'm sticking to the Avengers only here, but the point is valid across all Marvel comics from 1963 to the dawn of the MCU). The touchstone characters don't go through 85,000 different iterations if they are that popular/iconic/beloved (Captain America, Steve Rogers, was wearing exactly the same costume from 1963 to the mid-1980's, as were Black Panther, Vision, Scarlet Witch and Thor). Iron Man changed suit in line with technology (and only infrequently) until the 1980s, and whilst The Wasp (Janet van Dyne) changed her costume every third issue, her powers, gimmick and codename stayed the same. Let's compare that with Hank Pym. Is he Yellowjacket, Goliath, Antman, Giant Man or plain old 1990s Hank Pym? Is Hawkeye wearing his costume and rocking his power set? Is he the nervous scientist, dealing with schizophrenia, or the supergenius ladies' man? The constant switches of codename, powers and personality NEVER stopped with Hank Pym: that doesn't indicate 'icon', it points to a character that Avengers scribes struggled to write for. Now, that doesn't mean he's a 'bad' character, and I'm not knocking you, or anyone, who likes Hank Pym/Giant Man. We all have specific characters that make other people say, 'But that one is a totally niche loser! Why would Hasbro make that?' I'm not saying that at all. But, to say a $300 HasLab is justifiable - without seeing what is being offered - repeats what some people said about the HasLab Engine of Vengeance: they liked it, so it was good. And that didn't work out so well for Hasbro or for collectors. With a project like this, you have to separate how you feel about a character from its chances of being a successful HasLab. It has to be something and someone that wide sections of the collecting community will buy into. Being 'iconic' is just not enough: that's a subjective, personal opinion which doesn't consider the wider impacts (desirability, saleability, appeal, features) of a HasLab Giant Man.
