Hassan's "inside experience" here is pretty much the experience of most devout Muslims (the minority of course) on the affair, with the exception that most were not community leaders "ameers" and did even less ... and cared even less. They were alienated by it. And the silent majority just shrugged their shoulders and got on with life , watching the affair on the news whenever It came on. It was the most uneducated Muslims, with chips on their shoulders, that reacted the way they did ... just like it's them and the "suddenly religious" former thugs that go to join ISIS. And yes it was very political and different Muslim countries had vastly different reactions.

The interesting thing about the actual Satanic Versus not the book is they were versus that excepted polytheism. So Mohammed changed his mind once he got more power. So he got rid of the versus and reversed what he said. He said they didn't count because he was possessed by Satan at the time.

“Actual happiness always looks pretty squalid in comparison with the overcompensations for misery. And, of course, stability isn't nearly so spectacular as instability. And being contented has none of the glamour of a good fight against misfortune, none of the picturesqueness of a struggle with temptation, or a fatal overthrow by passion or doubt. Happiness is never grand.” ― Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

I loved to hear talking the both of you. Devloping ideas and exchanging opinions. One of the resons i started questioning Islam, is because i didnt find answer to our present problems. When i started thinking about what i see as the biggest problems and chanllenges of our time : How to consume, What to consume, should we eat meat, the permanent grow and the nature, me, the nature and the universe! when you see that the planet ( nature) is agonising but no one from this religious people or who promote the religon as a way of life have answers. I dont know if you understand my point, my english is limited...i just found that this can not be God's religion...I tried but found nothing consistent. I mean it has absolutly no answer to the global thing. For me a god`s religion, the god who is the creator of everything around us, all mighty can not be silent about the fragile and delicate balance on the earth ...exept Halal haram there is absolutly no consistent philosophy who could avoid climat changes for exemple.

Well a very interesting video! think I agree with all you have said! I watched a amazing video the other day about the life of Iranian born Annie Cyrus, her experiences growing up under Islamic state sharia law. A very brave lady who's story really touched me. She moved to USA to escape and today is a freedom fighter for equality, a convert to Christianity, time and telling her own truth has helped her heal.

Great conversation guys. I agree that to hold a supremacist view based on race is insane, but I think it can be applied to culture/society/ideology. A society/culture/ideology that promotes freedom, equality and tolerance etc is superior to one which does not.
@HassanRadwan133
@HassanRadwan133 5 жыл бұрын
I agree, but my point was that these good values don't belong to any particular nation or race. They belong to humanity as a whole. There are many issues within Islamic culture than need to be opposed & addressed. But that doesn't mean Muslim people are not capable of holding the good universal values.
@pilkyish
@pilkyish 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply Hassan. I would never say (and don’t believe) that Muslims are incapable of holding good values. My point was that it should be acceptable to be an ideological/cultural supremacist, as some ideas/cultures are better than others. Skin colour or race is irrelevant. I’m only talking about ideas. I don’t mean it in an arrogant way, and I’m not claiming that any ideology/culture that currently exists is perfect. I can’t remember exactly how you worded the phrase in the video, I just disagreed at the time. Take care👍

The problem with the book was with the title: The Satanic Verses; obviously a red rag to Muslim fundamentalists. There were also passages in the book labeling the wives of Muhammad as whores etc. Also bear in mind that The Life of Brian by Monty Python generated similar controversy.
