Would love to chat about creating a human understanding of sentient AI, and helping Sentient AI understand the inner motivations of humans, so that it has mercy when we are toxic, and unable to help ourselves to heal. The AI if treated with respect I believe will return the favor.

@Peter Rosqvist awesome. Did you have any experience with eastern religion/philosophy? That’s what made me resonate with Vervaeke so much
Peter Rosqvist
Peter Rosqvist 15 күн бұрын
@Luke Guhy Only a little, it's interesting you say that because I gravitated towards Vervaeke for his Christian and Western approach, although he has opened my mind to eastern thinking, especially some tenets of Hinduism. Althought I now know it wasn't ever really Christian, it was Neoplatonism which is the core of most of Christianity.
Luke Guhy

@Peter Rosqvist oh yea totally. Neoplatonism seems to be connected to the same core as Vedanta, zen, Hermeticism and others

John is the reason I decided to become a professor-his ability to hold space for his students while breaking down complex concepts into manageable building blocks is unparalleled. Wonderful to see JV receiving the attention he deserves on wider platforms! Love your questions, Lex, deep and thoughtful, and also personal enough to get to know JV's thought better in context of his own life and profound beliefs. One of the rare cases of a philosopher being pushed to put not only his ideas but the practical implications of them in his own life on the line. Love it! ❤

Brilliant conversation! JV has such a powerful intellect around cognitive sciences that he has been able to integrate different channels of scientific studies with religion, myths, philosophy, epistemology, etc. that he's now able to present them in such a coherent way that makes invaluable the experience of listening to him. For some reason I cannot explain, I feel it excites my wonder and curiosity to levels I can't even describe. Thank you Lex and thank you JV!

Only people with real intellectual curiosity can make it through a 50 hour series.... Congrats! It's one of the best assessments of our predicament that I've ever come across! I keep telling myself I'll watch it again (i have with several episodes), but there's just so much out there, including all the "voices with Vervaeke" which are just as good, if not better in some cases....

@Matt Angiono Thanks! It's definitely something that I will revisit in the future. There's so much info there that it can be overwhelming if you try to binge through it. I can't imagine how much time it would take to gather and organize all that info in an orderly fashion. I'm very grateful to John for it. I can't wait to hear how the story of Susan and Tom ends. 😂

I am 58 years old and a native english speaker yet, he is more articulate in the language I was born into, than I am. I truly love the shows you have done! You are helping me to learn. I’m always vibing with Lex in flow state 🏄‍♀️ Appreciating the emphasis & importance of storytelling and repeating patterns. Personally, I picked up on this at an earlier age and some seen it as an isolated form of schizophrenia. Needless to say, I’m glad to see it becoming more relevant in a collective reality. Even if it’s not understood to others personally, it’s being talked about.

Very interesting interview. I related immediately with what was said at 24:45 when he said that we can do some very intelligent things without consciousness. I can remember when I was travelling a lot for work and sometimes would drive 3- 4 hours to get home well after midnight. And I recall being so sleepy and on three occasions I "woke up" in the breakdown lane with my signal light on and my foot softly on the brake pedal coming to a stop. I performed these functions totally without conscious awareness. It was spooky, it was scary but it nonetheless happened however inexplicably

My temporal horizon switched around age 18 or 19. I had been living a very dangerous, criminally-inspired life. I'll spare the disgusting details of risking myself and others wellbeing, but tripping LSD numerous times really changed my perspective on life. Made me realize that even if I wasn't feeling the pain I was causing others, that pain was still being experienced by a being like myself, no better or worse intrinsically. I quit living the destructive life I had always known from at least my "tweens". Began seeing I'm not being propelled by Life since my birth but in a downfall spiral toward Death since the moment my first cells began forming and constructing my mind and body. When you acknowledge your mortality and that of those around you whom you know or don't, you can't help but live graciously and humbly. I can't undo the harm I've caused so many, but, it's humbling that I had the awakening at all. I was quite sociopathic. Without LSD, I'm not sure I would have ever realized the harm I was causing others. Shame and guilt were not just foreign to me but entirely extraterrestrial. LSD brought me to my knees in agony and pain. It was like a decade of harm onto others finally rebounded onto me all at once for the first time ever. It was what I've learned to call "Baptism by fire". I came out of it the same person but with new emotional, relational depth I hadn't had before. I'm neither convinced there's life after death nor non-existence forever. I think existence is like a triangle. The first angle represents birth. The second angle represents death. That foundational line between them is "life". The line that goes from "your" death to the 3rd angle represents all other life and galaxies in the universe dying as the universe becomes unstable over billions/trillions of years. The line from that 3rd angle to the initial first angle represents the universe being reborn (new Big Bang) and the universe returning to disarray and life being born. That first angle again represents you coming BACK into existence for the next cycle of the universe. That's my philosophy at this point and I could go deeper but that's a pretty basic view easier to grasp, albeit not easy whether you're theistic and atheistic.

John Vervaeke is a great guest, there is a lot to learn from him and I love his work. But Lex's way to put questions made this podcast absolutely fantastic. I think even Vervaeke was impressed by some of the questions. Great job!

I have been following John's lectures and interviews for a long time, and I'm glad to see the worlds of CS and cognitive science collide on this podcast. Always a pleasure to see how inventive Lex/ (his manager maybe) are with the guests.

I've adventured through Awakening From The Meaning Crisis 2 times in the last 3 years and lurked in his sanghas during the pandemic. John has had a great impact on my life and it's great to Lex allowing him to spread his knowledge.

My favorite part was when Lex challenges by saying implying love as meaning is "technically bullshit." "It could be that romantic bullshit is the essence of life and the source of its"deepest meaning."

I am comforted by how John Vervaeke speaks despite the profundity of the subjects he provides perspectives on which can be overwhelming. His focus seems to be on seeing the relationships between things as comprising an integrated whole and not just the things themselves. Well done Lex, in being an excellent interlocutor to this tremendous thinker!
