MY WRITTEN REVIEW OF THE 45P: www.stevehuffp...
Today I would like to discuss the Hasselblad 45P lens. It's a stunner, it's cheap (for medium format Hasselblad) and it offers true manual focus (not by wire) as well as auto focus. All for $1099. A screaming steal of a buy for this wonderful lens.
Thank you!

great review. It's now May 2023 and H ships this XCD 45p with the X2D and the XCD 4/21 in their Adventure Kit -- which I now own!

Thank you SH. I may never own an XID however I never get tired viewing videos about its exploits. Hey, so cool, thanks again.

Ohhhh, I prefer the old lens leaf shutter sound. It sounds more affirmative. However the new quieter, sharper, cheaper 45P is the clear winner.

A f/1.2 with that large of sensor would be a tremendous low light camera. I remember the days when 2 1/4 square was regarded as "medium format." Time do change. In the photography world, that's a very good thing. Good review.

Nicely done! A quick and simple review. Imagine that ... who does that any more? You do and I appreciate the “get to the point” style. How refreshing. Thank you.

Yes, YES! It is smaller, cheaper and more portable, but does it feel like a cheap budget "knock-off?" Everyone is gushing over this lens, but what I really want to know is if it feels like a premium product? I guess I have to go into a hasselblad store and hold both 45mm to compare myself.

I try to understand it, because I can’t compare them. Which combo will give me a better low light performance: a sony fullframe with the new 35f1.8 or this hassl mediumformat with the new 45f4 ❓ The MF sensor is about 1.7 times bigger than the FF sensor, so 45mm on a MF is about as wide as a 35mm on a FF and f4 on a MF is about as open as a f3.5 on a FF. Now without any further philosphy on the beauty of the quality of a MF camera. Yes it‘s true. But: Dİd someone especially compare the lowlight performance with such different lenses on both formats❓

I feel like, if I buy the X1D or X1Dii I‘d have to have the 80f1.9 to fully get the advantage of the bigger sensor. Now I am using the RX1R with its 35f2 and an a7Rii with the 90f2.8. The RX1R is a dream combo. I just can‘t get enough of low light “realism“. This real-life-like-look. If I really want more than a FF with a f1.4 lens the only digital combo is a X1D(ii) with the 80f1.9, I guess 🧐

I'm guessing made in Japan? Why was previous Hasselblad lens you tested stamped made in china?

doblebo Hasselblad X1D is produced in Sweden, and comes with a “Handmade in Sweden” inscription. The company has only 180 employees, so it is unlikely they have Asian sites, too small to benefit.

You say the sensor is humongous, but what about true 645 format sensors? :D
@gavingynert2455
@gavingynert2455 4 жыл бұрын
yeah it's more like a full frame+ sensor. Much smaller than even the smallest real medium format. But real 645 sensors are quite expensive.

As far as I know Hasselblad does not manufacture lenses, is it Fujifilm that makes lenses for Hasselblad? Just curious.

I've read it's a company named Nittoh that makes the lenses.

jan frosty Fuji has nothing to do with the whole Hasselblad X System, all X-lenses are made by Nittoh Japan, early design is made by Hasselblad optical emgineers, final design by Nittoh, aperture and shutter systems are made in Sweden by Hasselblad.

Why can't they make a faster lens? Is the technology not there yet or is there another reason?
@jesmor3
@jesmor3 3 жыл бұрын
This may be because of the leaf shutter built into the native lenses for this camera body and having to open the diaphragm a certain width.

Leaf shutter. If you shoot in bright light like middle of day, you can shoot at 1/2000 a sec and get dark background and stop movement and USE SMALLER FLASHES less expensive and lighter flashes instead of bringing in huge studio lights and huge stands. It gives a high fashion look that’s unique unlike most cameras can do usually

Such poor build quality if you want to use it for more than a year. Definitely made for retired dentists who take 1 or 2 pictures per year of their grandkids. (Focus ring detaches and you'll need it because auto focus is trash still.)
