As to why it was designed, hahaha. I get my first hasselblad in the next week and I’m interested In how comfortable the design is, I have very large hands, and I shot with a RB67 comfortably right hand on the right left to focus. I’m excited

Great video, Chris. I love my Hasselblad and glad to see you’ve picked yourself one up. As far as the focus ring, yes, they tend to be slow. I suggest investing in a focusing ring or creating one yourself. It makes things much easier. Keep up the content bro!

I used 'Blads (500C/M, 500 ELX, SWC/M) for decades throughout my professional career. I used both 120 & 220 film. I always had a strap on my camera, and that was always around my neck, unless the camera was on a tripod or a studio-stand. I always used a lens hood, the bellows hoods are particularly good. Focusing can be quick with a quick-focus handle. To minimise shake the rear body shutter and mirror can be pre-released so that the shutter release button, or cable release, only triggers the lens shutter. To compare 6x6 and 35mm focal lengths for a 10"x8" print, the ratio is 11:6, so a 50mm lens roughly equates to a 28mm lens.

Great video Chris! I picked up my Hasselblad 500c/m a year ago now and that has been my most used camera since then! I chose the Hasselblad over the RB67 due to its weight and convenience. Aaaaand I was also already used to shoot square format thanks to the Yashica Mat 124g haha.

Hey mate! great video. Not sure if I missed it in the video, but when you put the focussing screen back in there are two small slide out clips that hold it in to place which you need to secure before putting the finder back on. Might have just missed you doing it but just wanted to make sure so your screen doesn't get damaged!

great video! I was wondering if the Hasselblad prismfinder corrects the horizontal flip, or if it is still reversed? I know that the prismfinder on the RZ67 flips the view so left-is-left and right-is-right, and I wonder is the prismfinder on the Hasselblad does the same?

Great review! I bought my 501c 2 years ago and won't sell it any sooner. I too was a bit feared about 6x6 and I got my self a 645 back. It's not the 1.16 factor from 6x7 but it gives you a 1.33 form factor equivalent to a bit more than 5x4. 35mm being 3x2 (1.5), the 645 sits in between 35mm and 6x7 form factor and it gives you 15 shots per roll. It's kinda satisfying to be able to change your form factor on the go.
@bfs5113
@bfs5113 3 жыл бұрын
While 6x6 is smaller, especially when cropped, but one doesn't have to rotate the camera between portrait & landscape. I used Artist Transparent tapes to add the grid lines on 500 C/M viewfinder screen back then to assist composition. Other things I liked the Hasselblad 500 C/M are EV lock lenses, good Zeiss lens collection, interchangeable backs, including the Polaroid one, system camera concept for personalization, form factor and good local & regional supports. Of course, it was a personal preference, user case, differences in time and region. While I loved my primary SLR, the Nikon F2A + motor drive, but MF + Polaroid back option offered an advantage in certain photo opportunities, such as posters, studio portraits, etc. Nevertheless, those were just some memories of the old days that needed not to remember.

From what I've seen from my friend's Hasselblad medium format, the lens in the system is simply excellent; because they were intended for the commercial/studio photographers, those lens are extremely sharp, and controls the flares really well. And I also believe that there is this one Hasselblad lens that opens the aperture up to f2, wider than any lens available from Pentax 67, Rolleiflexs, or Mamiya rz/rb systems. (so if thats something you want in the midst of medium format film cams...) But personally I really never liked the square format from what I've experienced in Rolleiflex cameras, and choosing the rz was much better with the rotating back etc. tho...mamiya is just gigantic in your hand... It really just comes down to the format, size, and maybe lens.

The difference in size compared to the RB67 is greater than expected due to the fact that the RB is actually a 7x7 camera, due to the physical requirements of the rotating back.

You can buy a “a16” back, it’s a 6x45 back giving you 16 shots on a roll, saving you a little money and giving you a landscape orientation, but only landscape as you can’t rotate the back like the RZ or RB67, and the Waistlevel and 45degree viewfinders are horrible to shoot vertical. So for portrait orientation it’s not the best system(Although Hasselblad Made a vertical back it’s just a waist of film).

I got my first Hasselblad about 3 years ago and the V-series still don't suit me that well. The only Hasselblads that I really enjoy are the XPan and SWC. Both offer something almost no other medium format camera can. I assumed I didn't like the 6x6 aspect ration but I think the main reason why I don't like the 500C/M's that much is the focusing system. It's too uncomfortable for me. My go-to format is still 6x7 (RB67, P67 and Mamiya 7) but I get why people enjoy these so much to be honest. I just got in a Kowa Six kit, (Japanese rival to the Hasselblad system) and I feel like for me, that's a way better fit. Anyways, great video!

ATG & I say give this camera to many today photographers and most will be lost. Today cheaters need AF lenses, Auto camera meter, TTL, 10fps+ and a computer to cheat & correct mistakes. ATG/DJI (Asia) now own & departed dated manual Carl Zeiss T*. Lenses are now made by Fuji for beginners & cheaters with PC. 60mm X 60mm does not exist in digital format.
