I was gonna comment my top three but there’s too many, I’m in awe of the Oregon landscape. As someone from the UK, it’s insane to me how you can go from a sandy beach, to crazy snow mountains, and those painted mountains?? What an incredible place to be from. And a great achievement for you to go on your first road trip back, despite the pain, those are some good friends.

Lovely pics and entertaining watch! These darkening you are experiencing by the edges of the photos is vignetting. It happens on all panoramic cameras, but luckily there's a way to compensate for that. Hasselblad made centre ND filter that fixes the problem. Hope that helps you out :)

A ND centre grad can help with the vignetting if it bothers you. They used to make one for the XPan.

Loved the composition, how many portfolio shots do u have in a roll of 20 on average? I struggle with the aspect ratio alot of times due to excess negative space
@Jakechams8 ай бұрын
Its tough! Honestly, probably around 3-4 per roll but I LOVE every single one of them. Just don't think they all translate to portfolio work very well if that makes sense.

Great video! Amazing shots✌🏻I just have a question, I noticed the tag under each photo, bottom right corner and it states 'Hasselblad Xpan 45 2.8' May I ask what the 2.8 refers to? My 45 is an F4, so just curious to understand. I hope your leg gets better. Keep making these videos with the Xpan! 👍🏻 Cheers!

I bought two lenses to Crop panoramic shots. 20mm for my Nikon D850 and F3, and a 65mm for my 4x7. Haven't shot a panorama just yet but now that the weather is finally starting to dry up. I plan to asap. I live on the Wa Coast 20 miles form the HOH Rainforest. So lots of ideas for the woods and the beaches here this summer.

Why do people always talk about this camera looking like a movie when the film is like...3 times the width of super35? I feel like it has much more of a medium format or pano look than an anamorphic one? I feel like if you want a movie look the way to do it would be to shoot anamorphic glass on a half frame camera like a Pen F. Anyway...great shots! Really fantastic work.
@Jakechams8 ай бұрын
Ya I agree! I think just having the ability to capture an aspect ratio like this on 35mm gives a “cinematic” like feel! Thanks so much, appreciate you watching it.
@joko21058 ай бұрын
I see where you are coming from but it does give a movie feeling. It's basically 70mm 5 perf frame stills camera, so you are right about the medium format look. Movies through the history have had many different film sizes and aspect ratios, so it's a really broad term when people say it feels cinematic or movie like.
@mikehamilton74878 ай бұрын
I agree @benbunch4159 , I think we have gone past peak widescreen in cinema, and already some filmmakers are experimenting with more traditional squarer aspect ratios. I can’t help wondering if people in 50 years time will look at Xpan photos and think they look weird rather than cinematic. That said, Jake’s photos are excellent. To me, a ‘cinematic’ look is more about the lighting, colour, and using moderate depth of field (as opposed to the very shallow or very deep depth of field favoured by photographers) .
@anta403 ай бұрын
I used to think that pano format like Xpan is gimmickish. Eventually I realised it's not absolutely true. Using a normal wide angle lens (like 28mm and shorter) increases your field of view both vertically and horizontally, which increases the risk of putting more unwanted elements in your framing. So, you need frame carefully. On the other side, pano format is only wider horizontally, so your composition is cleaner. I'd say xpan is a like a scalpel. Limited, but very sharp.
@jzayas56988 ай бұрын
Always wanted an XPAN/TX1 but it would be a bummer to invest in one and it breaking down or something. Considering getting an anamorphic lens for my digital to get that movie vibe. Maybe not the same, but for a fraction of the price
