I was a child when it was first broadcast on German TV back then, in the early 90s. David was my absolute hero at the time. He was extremely successful in Germany back then. It felt like everyone loved him. Thank you for the video. Unfortunately, this short series is not available on Blu-ray or DVD in Germany. I would buy it immediately. David is still very famous in Germany today. His latest album reached number 2 on the charts, and his last two tours in 2018 and 2019 were almost sold out. It's a shame he got sick and had to cancel his last tour because of it. David is a living legend in Europe.

D'Artagnan (Chris O'Donnell) travels to Paris hoping to become a musketeer, one of the French king's elite bodyguards, only to discover that the corps has been disbanded by conniving Cardinal Richelieu (Tim Curry), who secretly hopes to usurp the throne. Fortunately, Athos (Kiefer Sutherland), Porthos (Oliver Platt) and Aramis (Charlie Sheen) have refused to lay down their weapons and continue to protect their king. D'Artagnan joins with the rogues to expose Richelieu's plot against the crown. Like a 1993 movie of "The three Musketeers" remember?

A good question! Basically it's because they were part of the Royal Musketeer Guards of the French Kings from around the reign of Henri IV to the first Revolution (the famous one), and so the muskets were meant more for wartime and also they were dragoons meaning they needed to be skilled at cavalry and infantry styles of fighting which includes swords. And because they were all nobles, they saw the sword as a more honorable and aristocrat weapon than the musket.
@nooctip4 ай бұрын
Never is a bit much, but not often. Were talking muskets. They had one shot and limited range. If you have a group so you can shoot in shifts while reloading it works. When there are three of you not so much.

Gottschalk and Hasselhoff in the same show produced by RTL 🤣 This "movie" is like a time capsule of the late 80s/early 90s Germany, if it come to entertainment. If I remember correctly there were some movies made around this time in similar vein, taking an famous actor (famous in Germany) that was after his prime and putting them in made for TV movies, most infamous to me are the late Bud Spencer movies. The setting is always LA oder Miami and they always feature a younger or quirky (Latino or Black) side-kick. But it is really hard to explain this mixture and why these movies were made, one needs to get the Zeitgeist of that time in Germany. Gottschalk was (is) one of the most popular and famous TV hosts on German TV (plus he lived in LA what made it extra exotic because he had connections to all the famous Stars *wink*) hosting THE most popular German TV show "Wetten dass..?". RTL was one of the first private TV stations in Germany and was seen as fresh and cool at this time and mostly aired (slightly older) US TV-Series, TV-Movies and adoptions off US Game Show formats, like Jeopardy and The price is right. One of their absolute most popular shows was Knight Rider and that was what made Haselhoff into an absolute Star in Germany. EDIT: Almost forgot, but similar Situation with ALF who also had several Album releases in Germany. 😅

And one more thing; I think that it was not mentioned on the video above, but I assume that the individual original episodes were each 45 minutes long; meaning that the runtime of the entire miniseries was 180 minutes. I've got some semi-pro experiences with video/film editing myself and I would definitely not envy the involved editor this job of cutting the originals down by a whole HALF into that '90-minute-long' TV movie and still making it at least somewhat comprehensible. 😲

Well I wouldn't call Thomas Gottschalk an actor. He was in some cheap German movies, but the thing he was famous for was being a radio presenter who spectacularly made the jump to television. He almost single-handedly shaped the genre of "youth radio" by turning the "car driver" channel "Bayern 3" into a channel that was entertaining to listen to. On TV the show he was most famous for was "Wetten dass...?" which was part game show, part variety show part interview show. International guests included Whoopi Goldberg (she lost a bet leading her to include him in Sister Act II) or Michael Jackson (of the Jackson Five). As musical acts they often had to use cheaper foreign artists which often struggled with their German. Thomas Gottschalk is a much bigger name in Germany than the Hoff, i guess, that is the reason why they threw him into this movie-series. Though, it could be argued that he is much better known as a tv show host than as an actor. (He started out as an actor, but from what I have seen of those productions - it was a looong time ago -, he wasn't much of one. Good enough for recognizability or funny sketches, but for something that is intended to be deep and emotional? You could substitute him for a board. But, for what it's worth, as a show host he was killing it.)
