In my defence, I didn't have psychic powers at the time! Those of course came in later seasons." Wanna hear the most Smallville thing ever? There was an April Fool's article around the last season, where the joke was Smallville was gonna introduce Krypto the Superdog. Impossible because in the desperate attempt to fill the showtime for ten seasons they went through everything even remotely related to superman they could. It got so bad that because they didn't have the rights to Batman, they made a pass at getting the Green Arrow taken seriously. We owe much to their desperation, we owe them shows that are honestly better when they lean on the super hero and not the soap opera. Because who doesn't love Ollies lone wolf trust issues fricking things up *again*, or Barry's daily pep talks, or Legends making historians WEEP, am I right? We need more emotionally healthy super heroes, or at least ones that learn a lesson after the hundredth time.

YES! THANK YOU! I was seriously debating making that reference myself, but 4Kids One Piece is a double-edged sword of "personal fan suffering" and "so bad it's hilarious".

@@jaredsamples6969 Eeeeh, I'm going to say no on this one because 4Kids dumbed down One Piece like it was for 6 year olds when the target audience is at least around 12, and ultimately made a lot of people in North America (including the original pre-teen to teen target audience) think One Piece was bad because it was "like a little kid's show" when really they were missing out on a series that was originally written a lot better. Anime for, or at least more appropriate for, small children and without guns already exists; changing a series into something it wasn't was not the way to go. 4Kids just dug themselves into a hole because all they really knew about One Piece when buying the licensing rights was 1. It was really popular and 2. It had a cartoony art style (so it must be goofy and for children, right?).

The thing about that that really bothered me at the time was less him having a secret and more them being such assholes that he would *dare* keep anything from him because apparently in Kansas no one is allowed to have any secrets about anything ever. Keeping anything private is morally the same as murdering someone with the frozen corpse of a puppy apparently.

The first five seasons of Smallville were (mostly) pretty good, and held to its promise of young Clark Kent growing into the hero we know and love. Then they completely lost momentum and became 'The Green Arrow Show" and anything but Clark's journey. Seasons Nine and Ten were okay as some kind of alternate universe, not really Superman Superman show. And while it took a while for them to find it, I think that Tom Welling and Erica Durance had the best Clark/Lois chemistry to date by the end. It's too bad they couldn't be included in the big "Crisis on Infinite Earths" tv crossover (PLEASE! I need to believe that!)

I don't know if you're even interested in doing long form review of shows anymore like you did with OG Charmed, but if you did one for this show I'd watch every second of it. This show, eventually so bad, but also so nostalgic. Even in like 2008-2009, in college, some friends and I made a Smallville drinking game. Can't remember all of the rules, but two of them were "Drink whenever a Luthor schemes" and "Drink whenever Clark is inconvenienced by Kryptonite". We all got plastered every time, just felt like sharing that, haha.

@@sniperwolf50 is that better or worse than straight recasting him between season 1 and 2 because the first actor looked too much like the guy playing Clark and they didn't want audiences to be confused?
