I'm sure someone will come along more knowledgeable than I with regards to the American hats, but here's what I know. They're commonly referred to as cowboy hats, at least by most people I know. They're an evolution from the "Boss of the Plains" hat, invented by John B. Stetson, and are thus also known today as Stetsons. They were historically made out of felt (and many quality hats still are), though you can now find cheaper versions made out of straw or plastic. The distinctive creases of the hats we know today were not a feature of the original hat, but part of the hat's allure was its versatility, as it could be used not only to keep off the sun, but for all of the other tasks you might imagine someone working outside all day to use it for: fanning things, carrying water, etc. As far as I understand (and I don't know how much of this is true vs. folklore), the pinched shape evolved from the ways people used and customized their hats (thus the pinched crown). But I'm sure there was a maker who popularized that ready-made shape down the line, and I bet the shape also had something to do with influence of other popular hat styles. The curled edges were also not a feature of the original hats, but have evolved today to be ubiquitous. If you get one today, you may be able to get it custom-steamed into the shape you want. While they're great working hats, you can also see them in a more dressy setting like a nice steakhouse (though obviously a work hat will not be a hat you wear out to a nice restaurant, just like you wouldn't wear your actual workboots but you might wear your fancy cowboy boots as part of the ensemble). The fact that they're still worn at nicer occasions in some places in the U.S. makes them somewhat unusual, as non-casual hats have fallen out of use in most places in the U.S. You might also see them being worn in airports, as it's a bit of a nuisance to transport them if you don't have a hatbox or the space for a hatbox.

Id love it if you could do a video about where to wear hats as it's not often done these days. For example if I work in an office what sort of hat can I get away with?

Hello! Great question. I don't work in a office myself, so I am not fully aware of office-wear etiquette. However, my advice would be, if your office has a casual dress code, you could get away with calot half hats and headbands that aren't too lavishly decorated. Choose matte fabrics (so no velvet), and definitely no veils! I hope this helps!

I believe it was Stetson who started the western style hat or cowboy hat. I wore a white one with a veil attached for my western themed wedding.

I was never a fan of Barbie, never wanted to have one, and usually groaned when other girls wanted me to play with theirs. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Looking at the different hat styles and the way they were paired with the outfits was very interesting. (BTW---I love your first name, Ilona, which is popular in Hungary.)

Eu sempre gostei de bonecas grandes, sempre achei a Barbie muito pequena. De qualquer modo eu sou pobre e no Brasil a boneca é muito cara.

@@fabianacamozzi775 Wonderful! Keep watching English-narrated YT videos, and as frequently as you can, watching the news, first in Portuguese and then in English. Newscasters tend to have better pronunciation and pace than the average person in the street, their phrasing is usually more standard, and their vocabulary is more general. It really helps! Wishing you grande sucesso!
