I really enjoy when Ross and Trott go back and forth with Smith or bring in counterpoints and acknowledge nuance or complexity. For me Smith can be quite dismissive or black and white but creates good conversation so the boys expanding on points makes for the best chats to me

To build on the Fortnite/Tenet incident, if I remember correctly the only version of Palpatine's returning message from The Rise Of Skywalker we have is the one that was released in Fortnite. It seems this is just how marketing is going to be done from now on.

20:00 That's exactly my experience from going to India as well. I'm guessing there's a good deal of that in the developing world. The contrast between rich and poor is insane, and just side by side, and often the state is... not super-present and/or effective (or very useful).

it's not a rejection of modern life, it's not buying things unless I need them. Pretty much when my university admissions job went to 2 part authentication to log in and the most convenient way to do that was a phone app, I then needed a portable phone and bought one.

Harry Potter does this interesting thing where the feeling matches the age of the main characters. As they grew up, it got darker and darker as the movies were made for slightly older and older audiences. I think it works quite well, even if I really would have preferred it to be darker. I'm actually reading them for the first time now, and they are bloody good.

I feel like people mix up patriotism with nationalism
@boitle4 жыл бұрын
One leads to the other. Not always but it's a very common route. It's rare for a patriot to hold their country to account for wrongdoing. Soon the patriot believes that their country is infallible and from there it must be all the other countries plotting against yours. It's a spiral.
@Chaotic_Monk434 жыл бұрын
@@boitle I think that's a tad dramatic. I figure most people who vote and care about even simple things like that could be considered at least somewhat patriotic. And it's a case of all nationalists are (technically) patriots, but not all patriots are nationalists. I can definitely see your point, however. I'm just trying to be optimistic which is probably naive.

@a.garcha1994 жыл бұрын
Bit late but I've been rewatching the podcasts and I hate how Smith speaks on H3, he instantly disregards him as "Oh he lives in a mansion and he just pretends to have a cheap setup but he's just doing it all for the views." Whereas if you actually followed h3 you would know he's been really really broke, and in a much worse situation than Smith has ever been in. You can't just disregard him as another rich person causing contravercy because he recently got a mansion, it doesn't change his mentality from being poor so quickly not that him being poor or rich really even comes into it.
@greyforge274 жыл бұрын
The h3h3/Keemstar conversation was very interesting. I've been following h3h3 since they had about 20k subs, and for a long time I found them to be a very grounded channel with a lot of integrity. But in the last year or two Ethan has gotten a pretty erratic and lost a sense of self-awareness of what he's doing. The Keemstar drama videos were the last straw for me, they were so transparently futile in the sense of actually changing anything for the better, and just trashy KZbin tabloid content
