Yeah that does not sound like a mixing issue, but literally half there sets sound like this, the energy is always there so I’m sure all the shows are fun, but the vocal performances are the definition of hit and miss, but man when they hit.

I absolutely love DW, and Symptoms of Survival is in my top 3 favorite albums of 2023. But this isn't a mixing issue; her voice is shot. In 197 Media's video of their set, her voice sounds like it does here (worse actually since it was later in the tour). And when she let's people from the crowd scream in the mic, you can clearly hear them.

Yeah I saw them in San Antonio and she was struggling with screams. Band ripped still. I think it was just wear and tear and hope she's back to form next time they come through.

I've seen them three times and she's sounded different each time. I don't think it's "excuses", I think different cities and tours got different performances depending on when they saw them.

I think she mostly uses inhales which destroys your voice if you're doing a show every week for months. It's fine while you're in the studio, but playing live shows every week she needs to develop techniques to protect her voice for longevity.

I really don't think she is hurting her voice....I'm a vocalist too and I am a bit confused how it sounds like her screams are going in and out. I think she is really quiet and not pushing much air. When she is speaking and singing cleans her voice sounds fine to me, it would not if she was hurting herself in the screams. Also when she gives the mic to someone in the crowd the screaming from them is much louder which really makes me think that Emma is not pushing much air in her screams. I am curious how her singing would change if she started using in ears.

Wonder if she's trying to pace herself a bit, make sure she doesn't expend too much effort early on? This tour would be the longest sets they've done and for a fair number of dates, plus leaving a relatively demanding song like Lost In The Fall 'til late in the setlist - you'd want to make sure you can pull that off.

I've been giving this band a shot and it's not bad, but the sound is just like any random early 2000's metalcore band from Massachusetts. It's FINE, but it's not changing or adding much to the sound. Skip to any point of this video and if you said it was Unearth or Killswitch, or All that Remains I wouldn't be able to argue. I guess the live vocals are stronger in those three bands...

Improper technique. Inhales destroy your vocal chords. I've seen them live aswell and her voice was shot by the end of the set.

​@@XyZDemise She isn't using inhales, listen to the scream around 13:42 and you'll hear her voice come in before the distortion (She does it on almost every scream). That type of onset wouldn't be possible with inhales. 16:10 She also takes visible breaths before screaming. She's breathing into her chest and screaming with her throat, of course she's going to blow out her voice every set. Tons of brutal death metal / slam bands use inhales. Inhales don't seem to destroy their vocal chords given that many vocalists have been doing it since the 90s / 00s. As more time goes on the thoughts around inhales have to change given all the real world examples of current perceptions simply not holding true. Waking the Cadaver is maybe the most notorious for using inhales and is a perfect example; Don Campan has been utilizing inhales since at least the mid 00s and he's going very strong. Extermination Dismemberment, Snuffed on Sight, and Begging for Incest are a few others that use Inhales to great effect. Look at their live sets and you'll see they don't burn them selves out using inhales the way Emma does with her exhaled vocals.
