Alimony is a payment to your former spouse if they are determined to, basically, not be able to live without your support post-divorce. Child support is payment to your former spouse if they make enough less money and were awarded the children's custody in settlement, to help the now-single parent to support them.

Also, 'rowboats and sails' I love how Smith totally underestimates what the Nordic Longship was capable of. It was the most advanced and revolutionary ship to touch the sea until the industrial age, SMIFFY
@xelgringoloco29 жыл бұрын
+Eric L No it wasn't. There's now way you can tell me a Viking longship from the 11th century is better than a British Ship of the line from the 18th century. The latter was so much more advanced in every conceivable area.
@QaRajhCreations9 жыл бұрын
+Eric L Hence why the Vikings, despite only being around for about 3-400 years, were considered as the best at not only ship building, but also navigation and naval combat. The longship is essential to why the vikings so quickly became so great.

@xelgringoloco29 жыл бұрын
TheAltoSaxophonist Until the industrial age he said. Ships of the line are pre-industrial.
@usha39389 жыл бұрын
+Eric L it wasn't. just because a longship is more or less on the water as opposed to the ship of the line, which is in the water (don't know the English terms), which means it can traverse shallow waters, does not make it a "better" ship. the Ship of the line was definitely more advanced, which makes sense, since it came much later than the longship, but not neccesarily better. You can't reason that.

I'm pretty sure one of the major reasons that McDonalds took off is that they applied manufacturing methods to their cooking, like by creating an assembly line. They also made sure that they were very consistent with their ingredients and cooking methods, so they get the same product every time, no matter where the product was created/purchased. Fun Fact: They also brought the market for artificial flavors into the main stream, because people wanted them to stop cooking fries in the burger grease, which they originally did. They used artificial flavors to keep the taste the same, without having to cook in the unhealthy grease. The familiarity of the same tasting product, wherever you went, is what made McDonalds so successfull.

Leif Eirikson was born on Iceland. His father was Eirik "the Red" Þorvaldsson, who was born in Norway. HIS father, Þorvald Ásvaldsson, killed someone in Norway and was exiled to Iceland. Eirik ended up doing the same in Iceland and was also exiled, moving to and colonizing Greenland. Leif's expedition was based out of Iceland. Þ is pronounced "th" by the way. It's called a "thorn". It's similar to an Old English character that looked like "Y". That's why "Ye Olde..." is pronounced "The Old".

Fast food didn't start with McDonalds, but they paired a simplified menu with a fast, assembly-line approach to make food quicker and cheaper than other restaurants. They weren't alone, but they made notable improvements in the speed of food prep that were later adopted by other restaurants. I'd word this question as "If you were suddenly and without prior warning thrown back in time to the year [insert year here], what invention would you introduce based on your current knowledge?" You should also be able to hire/partner with contemporary professionals to a reasonable extent. We'd also have to discuss whether you take the contents of your pocket or not, which could change things dramatically.
