+Emmy Nyan A coif is a tight cap worn on the top/back/sides of the head. It's basically like a hood but tight against your head. Chainmail coifs were very commonly worn underneath a helmet in ye olde times and it is this type of coif to which they referred.

cloudsora Well sure, that's the aesthetic, I just don't like that aesthetic. But if your game was about medieval knights with shiny golden armor and immensely decorated and personalized shoulder pads, if THEN you made all the characters look the same and dress in cargo pants with no shoulder pads THEN you're slacking on design. Elite Dangerous ships aren't lacking in detail (you obviously haven't actually played the game or looked closely at ship models since they don't look empty AT ALL), they just kinda have a same-y look to them, and that kinda makes sense. Elite Dangerous tries to be kinda realistic within their universe, the spaceships aren't drag racers. Within that universe (and physics therein) there is implied to be an optimal way to design a spaceship and so spaceships kinda fall in line with that. That's the aesthetic Elite Dangerous is shooting for, it's not that they were lazy and just decided to make all the spaceships look the same just to save time, they consciously made the decision to make the spaceship look same-y and that's the difference between aesthetic and just laziness/slacking. Aesthetic is planned and conscious while laziness is just not bothering.
