The world got to see the greatest of all time in the ring, a casual fan, someone who watched boxing for the first time, it does not matter, they should be grateful, they got to see the greatest fighter of all time. On the other hand those that follow the sport knew Paquiao was garbage next to Floyd, so let's just give props to Mayweather Jr. and let's move on.

THANK YOU! You've literally summed up my thoughts on this. Don't get me wrong, I do respect the technical side and sweet science of the fight. But you've raised the most important fact in that a huge number of 'casual' fans have now been put off because of the fight. A massive number of viewers were people who had never seen a boxing match and they were expecting the fight of the century. What happened has left a bad taste in many of their mouths and now a large amount of potential supporters of boxing have been put off for good.

This video explains perfectly how I felt after the fight over this weekend. I expected both guys to go out there and fight as tho their in the fight of their life--the fight of century. I was upset with the fight, because Pacquio didn't try to prove he is p4p the best in this error and Floyd didn't try to prove that he is TBE. I love boxing and will always watch but like Hatman said--I want guys who who will do more to entertain the fans especially when the steaks are high. Floyd won the figh fare n square, but I saw two fighters who knew they were paid.

Great vid bro, n very good take on the general state of boxing in this present era. Frankly, I still prefer big mega fights in big stadium where the atmosphere is much more conducive. Froch vs Groves was a great example. The undercards of a big fight must also be attractive to ensure paying fans get their worth,, value for money. And it is time to have just one world sanctioning body to determine ranking n champion. What is the point of even if u are a true champion of 4 different belts in a single division n then having to pay 4 sanctioning fees to hold on to being a champion. U look at tennis n golf n other major sports etc etc, their ranking leaves no doubt or confusion for the world audience to digest.

Totally disagree with this video. Who else has held Pac to 400 punches? Who else has made it look easy to beat Pac? Is it Floyds fault that Pac didnt sell out and just took the easy L? The fight game is about hitting and not being hit and Floyd does it as perfect as it gets. If technical skill is not entertaining to CASUALS than don't watch Floyds fights. What hardcore boxing fan cares about what casuals think? Boxing will survive regardless with or without them. If you guys would be more about teaching technical skill in the ytbc than maybe people will find technical skill more interesting. The hype sells tickets. No hardcore fan should even listen to the hype. Your complaints and casuals complaints should be to the existing boxing media, experts, commentators.

boxing has seen a decline because the casual fan doesn't want to watch a fight which lacks offence aka floyd may weather. they want to see a mixture of all aspects of fighting and floyd is the only guy to make that kind of money because he bought his way out his contract and manages himself. in 10 years time boxing will be minor compared to mma. Back in the day a world level knockout was special because people understood the finer points, the subtleties and could appreciate a crafty decision. Now its all about knockouts, its desensitized to where its the standard. The whole bum with 8 ko losses getting main events is insiduous, its fucking wrong. No one appreciates a competitive matchup they just want to see their guy knockout a guy who is only there to get knocked out, and he aint gonna turn down that main event money. Its fucked up really. the reason the casual fans are disappointed, is because the fight didn't live up to the hype, the hype was essentially this, Pacquiao was going to knock Mayweather out, It didn't happen, therefore the casual fans are so very disappointed, make sure you mention most casual fans are pactards. You would not even be making this video if poochiau had won the fight, The video you would be making if he had won, is something to the effect that boxing has been revived, the fight of the century lived up to it's hype and the fans got their money's worth, you know it and I know it!!

My thing is the casuals of boxing DONT GET IT. We live in an era thats on this worldstar, Ko compilation idea of fighting. Back in the day it wasnt like that, people get hype for great fights and people could respect a smart game. Its like in the playoffs when you get a clutch game that drags on, well its the playoffs, all that matters is who wins, yet theyll go and say this fight sucked. Back in the day you didnt need to be a knockout artist to get fans, willie pep, midget wolgast, people knew what was going on and people could understand that not everybody is gonna go in, they knew you gotta play to your strengths. I can dig people not liking the fight, but i just get sick of people who dont know shit, never sparred, never trained, acting like they know what the fuck boxing is.

Technical boxing is for the amateurs and for boxing purists. There is absolutely no requirement for the casual to 'change' for boxing....If boxing doesn't produce the excitement for them as they see it there are plenty of other sports for them to spend their money on......This fight was bad for boxing because it was a boring tip tap run fest which came with a lot of hype.....I want to see boxers get paid and for the sport to be healthy not just for the big timers like Mayweather/Pacman......This wasn't a good advert or advancement for that hope.
@JeffPenaify9 жыл бұрын
Nathan Stirling in the 40s, or 70s, 80s, this would have been a solid victory. It was a good fight. The casual boxing fan has no understanding of boxing, why should the marketplace pander to an uneducated, dissatisfied public. People were mad because Mayweather won its as simple as that.
@AngelBlackwellX9 жыл бұрын
I think there are two main reasons that boxing has failed to keep a mainstream audience. The first is that fighters tend to pick their own opponents, and avoid boxers that could possibly beat them ergo depriving fans of our ideal fights. Secondly, boxing favours the defensive fighters which means the best in the world are almost always going to be a relatively low volume guy. For most, this fails to capture what most would regard as the quintessence of fighting. So, in a nutshell, we need better match ups and more offensive fights. A way to achieve the former would be to reconstruct the boxing business model. Tv companies should only deal with 1 promotional banner, which is heavily regulated to minimise corruption. This banner should sign fighters to conditions that allow them to have complete control over their opponents. A designated faction should then decide the match-ups have fighters face everyone in their ranking bracket, and putting on publically demanded fights respectively. Pertaining to my latter point; boxing gloves are large which poses two problems. They deliver a small pressure per square inch (psi), whilst making it easier to defend punches than to land clean shots. A low psi means that punches are less hurtful, so power, chin & toughness are not rewarded fairly. Instead boxing celebrates the slick fighters for their speed and accuracy. If gloves were smaller, we would find that the guys at the top would typically have a combination of strength, punch power & punch resistance instead of speed, timing and accuracy. Further, it would be much easier to penetrate the guard with smaller gloves, so fighters would quickly learn that a good defence is a solid offence. We'd get offensively fought matches when boxers realise it's difficult to defend against shots and far easier to land. To summarise, if these two changes occurred then I'm confident that boxing will reemerge into the mainstream, gracing household screens with puglitistic violence in a new, golden era. I'd love to hear your response.

I Have to agree with you this fight was so disappointing..Why o Why Was Amir Khan Wasting His time chasing this punk to fight.. and know it wont happen... sorry Faryal... .
@AngelBlackwellX9 жыл бұрын
Your thoughts, although well presented are inaccurate. Boxers face more concussion because of the accumulation of punches rather than a one punch knockout (due to psi differentials) and because mma fighters throw less headshots in general. Why do you think that the guys at the top of boxing are usually skillfull and tricky, as opposed to strong and powerful? Because skill trumps strength? That's a fallacy, imo. Just look at mma. The best in the world are usually, with exceptions, strong powerful guys. This has a hell of a lot to do with gloves size. Think about it. Mayweather wouldn't allow maidana to wear his choice of gloves because he believed the lack of padding would hurt him. Through extrapolation this suggests that smaller gloves thus a higher psi favours the puncher against the slick fighter. Change the gloves completely and boxing would favour the strong and durable punchers over the slicksters. It would also have a positive effect on punch output!
@AngelBlackwellX9 жыл бұрын
Luca Brasi I have sparred yeah, with boxing gloves & mma gloves. Imo there's a world of difference in the power that the shots carry respectively which is what piqued my interest into glove size to begin with. Anyway, I'm going to have to agree to disagree with you here. Don't get me wrong, I respect Floyd's skill, he's talented to do what he does. I think it would be a completely new paradigm if gloves were smaller. Peace.

Hartman is king boxing channel, talks so much sense. Never got lost as elitist or purist. Mayweather does "enough" just to win for himself, has he done enough for the fans. Doing just enough is hated in all sports, football teams that score then park the bus is mocked and never respected. Mayweather got something that's better than his defensive skill, self marketing, if he didn't have this he would have been another klitchko. I thrive on memorable fights, on heart and courage whilst flood thrive on how much money mayweathers made. Can u imagine what would happen if we had 10 more mayweathers? End of boxing. Mayweather done what he had to do, it's time for him to go. I for one will not recommend any of his fights to promote boxing. Maypac was not boxing it was a flomo vs Pactard exhibition match.

Not only the currency values have gone down but with the Euros, European fighters are losing out every time they fight in the UK! Moreover, while the German boxing scene still seem to get going, France has completely collapsed (use to have some good boxers in the 90s) and the other countries don't provide much competition. You therefore have a 'scene' with only a few countries which doesn't really help in its development.

You can see with that fight, whether Mainstream Media or You Tube, which commentators are real and who's full of BS. To me you can put Mayweather beside 50 cent, or David Beckham, Jamie Oliver, etc.. - greedy rich people with nothing interesting to say, who in our times of poverty give nothing and take everything. They're just the sort of people you wouldn't want to have power or set an example. Talk about superficial people. Here's to ordinary people, and people who share with others.

going back and watching some of ur older vids. I think the ppv point is so true, Ive been saying it myself for ages too. I even think sports like football were hurt simply by going to sky sports rather than staying on the regular box. Were a fatter nation with less homegrown talent because of it. I actually enjoy watching mayweather, I got to be honest, but I dont like the guy. If pacman was ever gonna beat mayweather it would be through speed and aggression, and when he was at his fastest, sharpest and most aggressive mayweather ducked him again and again, talking about drugs blah blah. He ducked him till the fight was so stacked towards the smart boxer when they were both in their twilight that you can hardly credit him for going in there with him. I think mayweather would have beaten him at any stage, but its typical mayweather to not even take the risk and put his money where his mouth is when the fight was hot. Of course if you were to say that to floyd he would probably show you his watch again and tell you how much it cost, as if that says it all about his skills as a boxer. Maybe it does, but not in the way he would like it to. the bloke is an absolute tit and he was pretty bad for the sport. But I have to admit I enjoy watching that sort of fighter, I would love to hate him in the ring as much as I hate him out of the ring, but I dont, I think he was a superb talent and I think its a shame that he was too much of a mercenary coward to do what I believe he could have done, which is beat all the guys when they were the guys.

Most of the problems you’re talking about can be laid at the feet of the various belt organisations and the relationships with their favoured promotion and networks. We have been fed a diet of knockouts as if they were the norm. I also have been watching boxing for nearly fifty years! And have seen the promototers and networks taking bigger and bigger slice of the pot. You give Floyd too much influence! as if he is responsible for all the ills of boxing, something which has become popular recently. Boxing is a bastard sport,run by gangsters,the likes of which is unknown in the world of professional sports and there is no use comparing it to other sports. Is Floyd responsible for all the confusion and mess boxing is in? IThis re- writing of history doesn’t bear scrutiny. I remembe when Floyd had a 90 % knockout ratio, with such stunning violence against, Hernandez,Manfreddy,Corrales - a fighter with much longer reach,Gati Canelo, Cato etc…All of these enough people thought Floyd would lose,despite what they say now. As of Andrade beating Floyd,please,all of a sudden every boxer could have beaten Floyd! Boxing remains trapped in eugenic ideas about race and culture,whereas in other sport the need to be competitive has managed to rid themselves of this backward ideas. If you are a young black athlete why would you choose to box?,when other sports are more open and you don’t need to be at the top,to make sure your family can eat. South America is different,where boxing is still one of the only ways to improve you’re life. Hence the number of black Americans going into boxing has diminished over the years. The truth is that those us who truly love boxing are a diminishing breed. If Floyd brought so called “fanboys” along to see him fight or lose, only to disappear afterwards, that is not Floyd’s fault.

U already knew what Mayweather brought to the table and U still made this video. They said from the get go you can't hit what your eyes can't see. And I bet u will big up Nunn's style from back in the day...

I prefer watching Floyd with his pure skills outclassing hall of famer's instead of guys like GGG who just knocks out bums and is lauded as the next great hope!

I am a hardcore fan. And also one of those dillusional Tyson fans that believe he was unbeatable. But I don't think we need to push anything any different. Every fighter is different. If mayweather wants to fight the way he does then that's up to him. If people pay to see it but then complain that's up to them. Promoters etc are gonna go where the money is. And at the moment its with mayweather. Surely the next guy won't have the exact same attributes or mental make up so I'm guessing he won't box in the same way. Also I think with mayweather his style now has a lot to do with his age and the way he's marketed himself around his 100% record. He was a lot more offensive before he got into the top position but it seems obvious that he was milking his zero. I loved watching naseem hamed, Tyson and jones jr but for me there is something about the adaptation that mayweather has made that people should learn from and appreciate. Ie as in the way the Tyson Frazier jones jr styles don't age very well. But are very entertaining when they're in their prime. For me there are usually the top guys. Then the guys good guys that are exciting. Occasionally the top guys are entertaining but if not and they are still the pinnacle of the art form then more power to them. To use hatmans analogy. I'm sure there are a lot of superstar rappers that wish they had the skills of lesser known artists and visa Vera. But when you're gambling with ur life/health then I think it should be applauded by hardcore and casual fans alike if u can achieve what mayweather has. Too much is made Of the damage that this or that does for boxing and how bad it is. People always complain about technical fights. But if a big slug fest gets made they'll be back on the band wagon.

Buying Mayweather fights must not be an acquired taste when he holds the record for pay per view sales & consistently since 2007 has sold more than any other boxer when he's active.

T Jones with the right marketing and hype, you can sell anything. Mayweather has the majority of black boxing fans on his side, regardless of how dull his fights are, simply by virtue of the fact that he's black and successful...and the controversy he has created with his comments outside the ring over the years has caused many other boxing fans (not least Pacquiao fans) to tune into his fights in the hope that he loses...it's not the entertainment value of his fights that keeps people tuning in, it's the controversy he creates, and what he represents to the black community...casual fans who don't really know the man, they only know the name, tune in and are always left disappointed...because his fights don't live up to all the excitement which surrounds them...you only have to look at the reaction to the Pacquiao fight to know that...millions of fans, who don't normally watch boxing were bitterly disappointed....

HatmanStrikesBack You make good points but that's not right. I'm a black man in America & I know a lot of Mexicans that buys Floyd's fights some in hopes that he loses and some in because they're fans and also because he fight's Latino's on Mexican holidays. Secondly trust me black people ain't united on nothing and it definitely ain't uniting to buy Floyd's fights. Third Floyd is a worldwide mega star buddy I am a veteran people in country's all over know Floyd and buy his fights. Pacquiao fans go to closed circuit showing and watch Mayweather fights which is why Mayweather's fights has tripled Pacquiao's numbers in 2014. When Mayweather fight's perceived threat the numbers are even higher so good points but you're wrong. Lastly Mayweather performs the same way since 2007 and has broke the record for revenue 3 times? Come on nobody's buying something they hate they just hate the result which is another Floyd W each time.

Andrade already beat Thurman twice in the Amateurs , WITH EASE. When "nobody" wanted to fight Thurman , Andrade offered to fight him, Thurman's people passed, shit, Luis Collazo wanted a fight with Thurman before he knocked out Victor Ortiz , Keith Thurman's people passed on that as well. I'm a huge fan of his but I think he is seriously overrated at this point. His best 2 opponents so far have been a 40 year old Leonard Bundu and a former featherweight in Robert Guerrero, his last 2 opponents before that have a combined 18 losses. They are bringing him up slowly, letting him rise up through the ranks the right way.

Floyd is around with the media and the net is viral this is one reason Mayweather didn't need a promoter he showed Browner the blue print fans want to no how you live and Floyd took the camera right into his house for your entainment, the problem with Browner is Floyd was drinking water or soda at the club and Browner was drinking the real deal, and Floyd won his fights wile talking the talk on the other hand Browner talk the talk entertain but he lost, so here is were the difference came in,
