Based on the trailers, it felt like Disney knew this film would fail. The majority of the trailers consisted of the camp scene and the gorilla scene, which amount to 5% of the entire film. When we saw it in theatres, we were shocked in the brevity of those scenes and realized that Disney marketing milked what they felt were the funniest parts of the film, as short as they were. In a way, it was a wise decision because the drab interiors, golf club scene, and restaurant settings make zero sense outside of their context and do not look appealing. They definitely struggled to convey the film's premise through its marketing, and leaving the child actors out of most of the marketing of a children's movie is rather telling.

The R rated Old Dogs cut thing sounds similar to what happened with the 2002 Scooby-Doo movie. There's also rumors they used CGI to cover up cleavage, which may explain where the monster's effects budget went.

The problem being that Scooby-Doo was an active kid's franchise by that point. Even though there wasn't a cartoon since Pup Named Scooby-Doo, they were well into the DTV Scooby movies at that point, not to mention Cartoon Network rerunning the series. It's a shame that had to happen, but you can imagine a bunch of parents that refuse to do any research on movie ratings taking their 5 year olds to the movie and being appalled enough to write angry letters to the studio. I made the mistake of seeing the Yogi Bear live action movie (HB fan), and you would NOT believe the prudishness of the parents in that theater constantly talking about "family friendly" crap. They laughed at an unfunny "I Like Big Butts" joke in the movie, and they're totally the kind of Karens that would have called the song smut back in the day when used unironically.

Agreed. Had Scooby strictly been a Gen-Xer nostalgic franchise that wasn't touched since its heyday, an adult parody movie would have been considered okay. Like that crap Banana Splits DTV horror movie. But Scooby was, and still is, a cash cow franchise targeted to kids. I don't see WB granting a PG-13 movie that isn't super hero related to a kid friendly franchise. Of course, I once saw an Easy Reader type book version of The Dark Knight, so what constitutes as "family friendly" is all over the map.

This feels like something that should’ve been made in the 80s during the cycle of family films about cute kids teaching adults how to love (i.e. Three Men and a Baby, Mr. Mom, Baby Boom, Look Who’s Talking, Uncle Buck, Kindergarten Cop, etc.)

Always loved the part where Travolta took the wrong pills 😂🤣😂🤣.... Great hearing you referencing Father Ted!

Even though he’s been in many good movies, John Travolta’s career could sustain Forgotten Failures for a lifetime.

Robin Williams is and has always a comedy legend.

A much better way to go about things. Is have Robin Williams play super famous voice actor. Travolta a movie producer. And both men are childish bachelors. Who are into video games, comics and cartoons. With giant man caves. Robin finds out he's got kids. And they are extremely uptight and way too grown up. The dynamic being that the kids teach the men how to be more responsible. And the men give the kids a childhood. Which in a heartfelt scene, Robin can say that reason why he is the way he is. Is because, he is making up for everything he never had as a child. Flashback to his childhood where they couldn't afford toys for christmas. And he would imitate voices with stick figures. "Senior Kids".

i woulda still written in a scene where Robin Williams crashes into a lake while flying on a jetpack though
@TheVarietyVendor3 жыл бұрын
@@Malkmusianful That can be the opening. And the ending would be the kids and Travolta getting jetbacks and getting over their fears of heights.

When dating my last girlfriend, she popped in this movie and said it was a favorite of her family. That it was their first blu-ray. I had never heard of the film, but got pretty excited when seeing who was in it. After watching the film, I knew it wasn't going to work out between us.

Shorten your summarized intros. By the 5 minute mark I assumed we were already "IN" to it...then you say "ok so let's take a look at Old Dogs...." No thanks, you already got me for 5 minutes.

I forgot this movie existed. Either way, good video. Since you've made videos on comedies that are almost cult classics or forgotten failures, have you ever thought about making videos on: Radioland Murders, Dracula: Dead and Loving It, Strange Magic (If you want to talk about animated films), and Wild Hogs? I bring those films up because: 1. They have a neat cast consisting of well-known actors and characters actors. 2. Have a neat premise/idea that had potential to be good. 3. It didn't do well at the box office and was panned by critics.

I blame the critics for movies not being more successful. Discourage people from watching and making their own opinion.

Kangaroo Jack was originally r rated and drastically reshot. I need that cut of the movie.

Robin Williams, Bernie Mac and Kelly Preston? That would be a lot of real life tragedy overshadowing the comedy even if the film had been great.
