No stores, schools, or other places of business?
@wrestlerx84944 жыл бұрын
I grew up in a low income black area outside of Washington DC and sadly my experience has been that businesses don't seem to want to set up in those kinds of areas. There were at least 3 liquor stores and a laundromat that I know of within a 2 mile radius, but no other stores or businesses. If there was a park or school, it's only because the government is required by law to build those in certain areas, otherwise they would not do it if they had a choice. I do know my mom was white and her parents lived in a better white suburb that was further out and there were a lot of stores and parks nearby. I can remember as a child spending the night at their house and not wanting to leave because it was so much better there and I didn't feel so afraid, and my brother and sister felt the same way. It's actually pretty sad.

The harsh reality about Hattiesburg is rapid decline set in once generational welfare took a firm grip on the community and changed the city’s culture likely forever. Hattiesburg, once touted as an ideal retirement community and place to raise a family, clean and safe and quaint, now has one of the highest crime rates in the country for its population size. (Check Google!) This rapid transformation happened in only 30 years.
