I like the reefer running continuous while sleeping. Also make sure tank is over 3/4 if going to Walmart. The noise drowns out the occasional billy big rigger racing thru the truck stop. Now I park next to reefers when I'm not running reefer. 😁

The face looking symbol and button means start/stop, aka cycles mode. If it is supposed to be set on continuous mode you should not see that symbol. Fresh produce needs continuous so if you see that symbol on produce you might have issues... Never let the fuel tank get below half a tank. If you get shut down somewhere for some reason and that tank runs out of fuel, it is big trouble time. A full tank running on continuous at 34° in hot weather may only last 2 days. So if you get shut down with half a tank for 2 days, it won't make it.

Once you get used to the reefer running you'll sleep just fine. Until it does something it's not supposed to do. Watch out for other drivers shutting off your unit because it's bothering them. Had that happen a few times. Look for other TCU trailers and park next to them if you can. Some dry box door swingers and flatbeders get cranky. Otherwise just do your due diligence and you'll be just fine.

@vernmoore7710
@vernmoore7710 2 жыл бұрын
Food warehouses always had the most unfriendly people I dealt with, reefer or dry van. I grew to hate grocery loads outside of WalMart/Sams Club because of that. And the REQUIRED lumper services that extorted you to unload the freight. $500 to run a forklift in and out of the trailer 24 to 30 times so that the warehouse didn't have to pay labor to get their freight. I've spent 12 hours stuck in a dock door while some guy took all my day to unload the trailer and charged me twice what I could make on my best day of driving. Insult to injury it would take two weeks to get the lumper fee reimbursed, so that was pulled from my paycheck to pay T-Com or Comm-Data for the check the first week. making for a small paycheck that week.
@TheJoyofTrucking
@TheJoyofTrucking Жыл бұрын
The lumper fees are a scam!!! One of Kevin’s pet peeves even though it’s only happened once at Werner and it was covered by the company. Crete tells their drivers not to pay any lumper fees if a receiver tries to charge it. Sorry for your bad experience. Thanks for sharing about it here.

With the Walmart dedicated, usually you'll turn the reefer off once it's empty for the trip back to the DC. When doing Walmart dedicated, I top the reefer off before I leave and when I return. On Walmart you'll only have to set the temperature for a backhaul. It's a whole different thing if you pull a Shaffer load OTR (I've done 3 Shaffer loads in 10 years).
@vernmoore7710

I got farmed out from the dedicated account I was on at Schneider to fill-in hauling WalMart groceries during vacation season at various DCs. Two DCs wanted the reefer shut off once the trailer was empty. The other two DCs wanted the reefer set at 32* for each zone to keep the trailer cool for the next load.

I avoid Cheyenne and Pauls Valley. Miles aren’t great. I don’t mind helping at Mankato but my favorite is North Platte. Been out here now for 6 weeks and I’ll be finishing out the month here before heading home. I try to get out here as often as possible. Walmart beats OTR, in my opinion. Much more consistent and the miles aren’t any different than OTR. Plus the extra CPM for helping out and the stop pay.
@ogdriver5334
@ogdriver5334 2 жыл бұрын
You can run 13K per month on Walmart? Really?
@Dobbs3
@Dobbs3 2 жыл бұрын
@@ogdriver5334 honestly, not ideal every month but it’s possible at north Platte. This is my 6th week here This go round. My worst week has been 2658. Best week has been 3664. That’s with a 34 every week. Plus my worst week was a 34 with a random night off as well bc of a slow night. Other than that, I stay extremely busy every time I’m here. I try to come as often as possible during the non snow months haha…I’m about to start a 34 now,, I’m at 2400 for the week. Walmart pay period ends SATURDAY at midnight so once I finish my 34 I still have the potential to run anywhere from 1000-1200 more miles on this pay period. I’d say give it a try. Come out here and communicate. Be willing to run nights and reefer loads. Build a relationship with the office staff and the amount of money to be made out here is quite nice. Plus again, the consistency rules. No looking for mts ever. Parking is never an issue. No being told the load isn’t ready. You know exactly when your load will be ready to go.

I used to deliver to that DC in Cheyenne, when I worked for Western Distributing. Effing hated Walmart ! 5 hours to unload every time. North Platte isn’t much better. Set point, continuous or start stop, and fuel level are the main thing. When it’s on defrost, you should see water running out of the drain tubes. Always top it off when you fuel, and when it’s dropped. Start stop is usually for frozen foods that are like -10f. A reefer will burn about 1.5 to 2 gallons per hour depending on outside temperature. I’m a fuel tanker driver now, thinking about going to flatbed. Talked to Crete a few months back. Pissed off the recruiter, told them I wouldn’t drive a truck with all the nanny crap on it. Esp that opti idle, starting & stopping every 30 minutes. Annoying enough to be parked next to one.
@TheJoyofTrucking
@TheJoyofTrucking 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips!!! Looks like you’re well rounded trying out different divisions and companies. 😃 Yes…Opti-idle is not ideal. It wakes me up. And…It doesn’t keep the temperature consistent. So I’m hot, cold all night. Blankets on, off. Fan on, off. Not conducive to good sleep. 🙁

I would NEVER drive a reefer again unless there's no other jobs available. Driving a reefer suck. You'll never get a good night sleep when that reefer is running. Your life won't last long.

@@JASONHJEFFERSON Oh I forgot to mention. When I was driving a reefer, I was responsible for getting it cleaned. But the f**king company didn't pay me for my time to get it cleaned. Many receivers refused to load me until I could prove that the truck was cleaned at a nearby truck wash. Screw that. I'm making 90K per year hauling a dry van. Since I'm not hauling food items, I never have to worry about cleanliness. I would go drive a flat-bed or a tanker before hauling a reefer.

😳😳😳😳 That definitely doesn’t sound like a good situation. At this dedicated Walmart takes care of all of that. Long-term Kevin definitely shared your opinion. And the constant noise!!!! 😕☹️🙁😞
