Really cool and insightful deep dive. Your hard work shows throughout the duration of this runtime. Every time I watch your deepdives, I always learn something new and information that makes me want to research and watch the movie. I had no idea what a thorn trilogy was and never heard of it until now. I mean, the only one I was familiar with was the one with Paul Rudd 😆. But I thought H20 was interesting and going somewhere. Quentin Tarantino even praised Jamie Lee Curtis's performance in that movie. Sorry for the long rant lol. Anyway, really good work👍. I am looking forward to seeing more deepdives from you in the future. you two crazy kids have fun tonight lol and be careful. Happy Halloween 🎃

Didn’t know these films were filmed in Utah. Not surprised. Worked maintenance in Salt Lake City since 78. First 14 years at a mall downtown. I saw a few Actors in my day. I was polite and just acknowledged them with a smile. I heard later that a lot of actors liked filming here because people were polite and just let them be. Also I had a friend that worked as a bodyguard for many Actors. I’ll have to rewatch this trilogy closely now since this wonderful deep dive. I have to confess that originally these three were not my favorite of the franchise.

As always, another great deep dive. Even though I don’t like the Thorn trilogy, I at least appreciate that they were trying to spice things up. I just wish that the leader of the Thorn cult was Conal Cochran instead of Wynn, it’d be a cool way to tie it into Halloween 3. That’s the best Halloween film in my opinion, I will die on that hill!

Honestly, I really like Halloween 5. I don’t think it deserves all the hate that it gets. It is well-directed and includes multiple scenes that are genuinely suspenseful and stylish. Also, Pleasance gives his most unhinged performance as Loomis in that film.
@jasoncase9481Күн бұрын
It really does deserve the hate it gets because it retcons the ending of the 4th movie, adds in the telepathic connection which was never hinted at in previous Halloween movies, and how they decide to kill the likable protagonist is disappointing.

Othenin-Girard was trying to briefly humanize Michael in Halloween, but at least there was a point to it even if one sees it as a misfire. The whole idea is that The Shape's rage is so powerful that it breaks through any of Michael's remanent humanness. You see one single tear drop and then Michael instantly snaps back into (the Shape) of rage. I understand people not necessarily liking this, but The Shape's rage is literally spelled out as the film's central theme as we see when Loomis talks to Michael in the woods before the final act. I actually find it bizarre that many seem to have more contempt for Othenin-Girard doing that than the Weinsteins forcing a shoed-in in-movie-retcon of Halloween 6 wherein we find out the cult of Thorn is actually all just a cover for genetic experiments to be sold, conceivably, to the military-industrial complex. It is potentially the most ridiculous twist in the series that many accept simply because they like the atmosphere and mise en scene of HALLOWEEN 6 and prefer the spectacle of Tommy Doyle beating the piss out of Myers with a pipe in the ending. And I get why people like HALLOWEEN 6, but the whole genetic experiment thing is contemptuously stupid and akin to the deranged conspiracy theories of a QAnon nutter.
@bensneb3602 ай бұрын
Curse of Michael Myers will always have a special place in my heart because it reminds me of my Meme’s neighborhood, and around 1998 (I was 6) was when I first dipped my toes into horror (mostly Halloweentown, Don’t Look Under the Bed, Are you Afarid of the Dark?, and So Werid) but I’d also turn on AMC or some place showing horror movies (the first thing I ever saw the Halloween series was the scene with Jamie in the coffin and Michael taking his mask off around this time) Watch for a few seconds and then get scared and turned back to Cartoon Network or something… but something about it just taps into some of my oldest childhood and spooky memories and what late 90’s Halloween meant to me

Halloween 4 is a solid entry though I would be curious to see Dwight's Director's Cut though it probably won't be a huge difference unless certain rumored scenes were actually filmed! Halloween 5 is an example of never rush something and don't let Dominique Othenin-Girard do whatever he wanted to do without taking time to really think about the consequences of it! I know Halloween 5 has apparently a lot of deleted footage including the swat team sequences and the police station shootout and apparently there was a scene of Dr. Loomis throwing a dead cat at some kids in front of the Myers house to get them to leave! Halloween 6 is a perfect example of studio interference with a lot of bad apples messing things up! It is funny with all the footage that has been released for Halloween 6 there is still more out there including a work print that has more scenes of Dr. Loomis! I noticed you made a small goof, it was the Akkad's that filed an injunction against the Weinstein's but yes Akkad's Lawyer's basically told him to back off and the Weinstein's secretly did the reshoots and yes I agree F the Weinstein's! Solid deep dive!

I remember growing up, every year around Halloween time, AMC would always rerun Halloween 4 and 5 and I would watch them every year for years lol they’re basically staples of my childhood and the one timeline that has the most nostalgia for me. I admit as a kid, I had a big crush on Jamie lol I so loved getting to meet Danielle for real earlier this year! Those Halloween 5 parties sound insane since she was a kid. Idk how to feel about all that lol I really loved your background info on Alan howarth! Music is so important to me and I love that he has a rock background and opened for the Who! That’s awesome! Also I never knew about the stranger who inspired the man in black! Thank you for that! But I’m just glad that you’ve finally seen the light on the producers cut of Halloween 6! I know it’s got flaws but so does part 5 haha and for me, as a long time fan of part 4 and 5, watching the producers cut finally gave me closure on what happened with that storyline cuz the theatrical cut never helped and always confused me lol I also like that we have retroactively titled as the thorn trilogy cuz of part 6! It’s sad about he whole Jamie situation, since Danielle only asked for more money to cover the court costs of being emancipated. Damn those producers, but either way I like the way Jamie is handled more in the producers cut and that Danielle and JC Brandy are friends! My biggest reasons for preferring the producers cut goes beyond the story changes but it actually feels edited like a horror film and doesn’t have all those light flashes and jumpy editing! But I also love that the producers cut has more Donald Pleasance. It’s not just that he passed before the reshoots but the director thought his performance was boring. Idiot! Hahaha Pleasance is honestly one of the best things these films got going for them! Thank you again my dark mistress for this deep dive into my favorite Halloween timeline! You’ve seriously outdone yourself with this one! What a way to celebrate Samhain! Happy Halloween!

Ellie Cornell also auditioned for Alice in NOES 4 around the same time she auditioned for Halloween 4.. said she knew of Freddy and NOES, but was already a Halloween fan and thought it was more popular, but I don't she chose between the 2 roles, Halloween 4 cast her and NOES 4 got Lisa Wilcox..

What would’ve made the trilogy better Imo: 1. Kept George P. Wilbur in all 3 movies with the correct mask 2. Loomis not developing into a old psycho 3. Not killing off Rachel, and replacing her with annoying Tina 4. Stuck with Danielle Harris as Jamie and not muting her in H5 just to create a psychic connection with Michael 5. been subtle with the cult of thorn, no rituals or random man in black scenes If it was absolutely necessary to give Michael a motive like that

So, you are very well researched, which is impressive. However, when it comes to the neck of the H5 mask, you missed Don Shanks’ commentary of the film. In that, he talks about how they put makeup sponges in the neck, in order to make it flair out like it did. I guess Dominique thought it didn’t look like a mask, unless they accentuated the neck like that 🤷🏻♂️

A really cool connection to real life cult imagery is that the thorn symbol that is tattooed on Michael’s wrist is actually a real life rune called Wynn! So it makes sense why doctor Wynn would be the one controlling Michael. Also i resent the comment on the generic grunge music in the theatrical cut of Halloween 6! Hahah I’m a big grunge guy. The song is “And fools shine on” by Brother Cane. I actually shazamed the song when I first heard it. I can’t help it hahaha but I do agree that the original Halloween music was much better choice for the scene.

I actually really enjoy Halloween 5. I've got the Producers Cut of 6 and like it enough but 4 is one of my favourite horror movies and is good enough to be it's own thing if it wasn't a Halloween movie but a masked killer flick.
