So, few quick facts: The "chasers" are a large dumb man who thinks Fiona is a doll (he crushes her with a hug and accidentally rips her body apart when she's dead), an homunculus who's jealous of Fiona's womb (she carves it out if she kills you) and a creepy pervert who wants to LITERALLY rebirth himself but knocking up Fiona (if he kills you... It doesn't stop him...). Being nice to Hewy also stops the worst ending (you end up kidnapped and impregnated). The first guy is the only one who can survive the game. If you don't kill him, he waves goodbye while doing the garden work in the ending. He's just a toddler brained hunchback, not a villain.

Fun fact, the dog Leon rescued from a bear trap in resident evil 4 was Hewie. When Hewie gets seprated from Fiona in the forest near the end and fiona gets captured by the bad guy is when Hewie encounters Leon.

@@kelsb8121 It's true that they use the same dog model for Hewie and the dog in RE4, so literally speaking it is the same dog. Haunted Ground was one of several games that were meant to be Resident Evil 4 when they started out, but were turned into their own game later in development. I've never heard anyone from Capcom suggest Haunted Ground is in the RE universe, but it isn't impossible.

@@ParadiseAndGin That's literally the point of the game, you're a vulnerable adolescent and all of the villains relate in some way to becoming a woman. I'm not great at wording things sometimes but I recommend watching Sphere Hunter or RagnarRox's videos on it. Sphere Hunter has a shorter vid and focuses a bit more on the game aspects while RagnarRox's vid is almost an hour and really focuses on how the game gets you to immerse yourself and just how terrifying it is. I love horror media, but this game is the first thing to truly terrify me to my core, Silent Hill 3 explores a lot of the same things and it is also terrifying.

"Why did survival horror graphics peak at PS2?" Honestly its probably because that was the last generation that wholeheartedly accepted the AA market, which is what most high end horror games aspired to be. The 360/PS3 generation by contrast was all about risk aversion, which meant of course dumbing down gameplay and following the first person shooter trend so aggressively it became risk indulgence. If a horror game sold 1-3 million copies on the PS2 it was usually happily received. If you said the same thing on the next generations consoles, it was "why isn't it selling call of duty numbers." The other problem Pongsifu, specifically regarding the graphics, was developers leaning towards Unreal Engine 3 especially as the generation aged it became easier for Japanese developers to select that over other engines(often cheaper). Problem is, that engines weaknesses (such as the "pop in" effect of all graphics loading at once) are especially bad weaknesses for the survival horror genre. It helps a game like Gears of War at the time be a visual marvel, but it ruins the tension of scenes in survival horror. Moreover, that dirty visual style of the engine did not always translate well towards character model development and the limitation of colors in UE3 at times didn't take advantage of the higher pixel performance or stability the engine offered in regards to the genre.

I'm so happy that Haunting Ground is getting more recognition! I've been putting off watching this for a bit but I've been obsessed with this game ever since I saw RagnarRox and Sphere Hunter's videos on it. I desperately want a remake so I can play it but I know that will probably never happen due to the current political climate.
